I shipped cornturtle as well when I saw the trailer but started leaning towards zoeystery after seeing all the lovely fanart but this has me coming back to cornturtle. Which is why I would like to hear your ideas or thoughts on this au idea: childhood friends Zoey and Abby.
Like imagine them meeting as kids, maybe when Zoey's visiting family during the summer holidays, and the two becoming best friends. Even better, imagine Abby being this short, shy, slightly chubby little boy who falls head over heels for the tiny black haired girl with pigtails, with the turtle shirt who chased off his bullies. They keep in contact and see each other every summer. Unfortunately, Zoey's visits come to an end when her parents divorce, and her father in the States gets her during the summers which means she doesn't join her mother on her visits back to Korea. They still keep in contact though. They lose touch when they both enter the trainee process and don't see each other again until after their group's debut.
Two things quickly become apparent to the two groups. 1) That Abby is clearly in love with Zoey and 2) that Zoey is completely oblivious to her best friend's feelings towards her. Between whatever Rumi and Jinu have going on and Abby's failed attempts at making Zoey realize his feelings, Mira, Baby, and Romance are never short of entertainment.
Would love to hear any other ideas or headcanons you think would work in this au.
First, I apologize for the VERY delayed reply. I had to deal with college stuff since i'm already in my senior year I only found time to check on my inbox recently.
Anyway... I LOVE THIS SO MUCH OMG
I adore the timid-little-boy-growing-into-a-hunk-but-is-still-the-same-loveable-sunshine trope on Abby. Just the thought of little Abby being too shy to try to match up with little Zoey's energy (despite how much he REALLY wants to but yeah he thinks he's just gonna embarass himself as what his bullies would usually tell him) and as they spend time together during their playdates, he grows more comfortable as Zoey lets him catch up with her energy in his own pace.
Think of how he always have a little gift prepared for her days before their playdate, eyes sparkling in excitement as his small chubby hands struggle to piece a DIY bracelet, maybe a drawing of the two of them holding hands in a sunlit field or him being saved by Zoey from the "bad guys" aka bullies, etc.
Then imagine one day, just when he was expecting her at the same tree where they would meet for their playdate, he finds out Zoey's house has already been sold after waiting for two hours while carefully holding the gift he's been anticipating to give her.
His lips would wobble first, trying to piece the situation altogether before he silently cries under the tree, hugging the present he was suppose to give to Zoey. His mom spots him moments later and rushes to comfort him, gently explaining about Zoey's situation in his level of understanding as best as she could.
Luckily, he was able to keep in touch with her since his mom still has contact with Zoey's mom, but it became less frequent to none as they grew with how bad Zoey's situation with her parents had gotten (and he had no idea at all) until years later when the Saja Boys' debuted and Huntrix turned out to be their seniors.
I like to think that their reunion would be in an award show. Abby already knows about Zoey's idol career since his trainee days with how popular Huntrix have gotten while is completely unaware that Abby is already in Korea until she saw him at the Idol Awards, seated two tables away from theirs.
At first, she doubted it was Abby simply because he was still chubby and small the last time she saw him. Still, something about that wine-haired guy feels familiar.
Then cue to Zoey confirming the said rookie idol's name by asking Bobby, who was just about to pass a water bottle and a blanket to her.
She doubts it for the second time. Probably just the same name. A great coincidence.
Cue to the Saja Boys winning the "Rookie of the Year" award and Abby had to give his speech in English after Jinu.
"Yeah, I heard from Bobby that the guy's from Burbank like you."
"What?!— I mean uhh... yeah?"
And of course, while watching the Saja Boys' post-award performance, her eyes, full of awe and disbelief, remain fixed on Abby, the same boy who used to hide behind her and cry as she fights off his bullies, now a man who is confident of expressing himself on stage with his talents. It got to a point where Mira had to snap her fingers in front of her and tease her about "eating popcorns at the wrong place".
As the Saja Boys' performance ended, Abby smoothly sends her a wink and a genuine smile but she assumes it's probably aimed at the crowd just behind the idols' table section.
