"Terf means lesbian" lmao as if terfs aren't majority straight political lesbians or ROGD moms
I'm seeing this really annoying trend of people who dont wanna be called queer turning round and calling people who do "kweers" as an insult?? Like that is extremely inappropriate and frankly it's worse than just calling people it as an umbrella term because you're actually using it as an insult. Changing the spelling doesnt change shit, like just cut it out.
I keep seeing terfs mention that Marsha p Johnson was actually a drag queen, but the only source that says that is Wikipedia, all the other pages say she was a trans woman. I was just wondering if you knew of any credible sources that say which is true, I don’t really believe terfs claims but I don’t want to be misgendering Martha either. Thanks for all your help.
Off the top of my head, I don’t know of any first hand or research based sources about that. I have had this ask sitting here for a week while I tried to find out, but no luck.
But everything I read identifies her as a trans woman as well as drag performer, including the Marsha P Johnson Institute. Plus she helped found STAR which specifically focussed providing shelter for homeless transgender people. So I’m going to say that the evidence for her being a trans woman is much stronger than the Wikipedia page claiming she was only a drag queen.
Marsha p Johnson self identified as gay and a drag queen. The term transgender wasnt necessarily in wide use at the time but people extrapolate that she WOULD have identified as trans if it had been. The only thing she ever explicitly said about her gender was "pay it no mind".
Frankly we dont know what she would have identified as if shed had access to the things we do now. Personally I see this confusion as really clear evidence of how entwined gay and trans communities were. It's sad that people to use that to spread further divide when in fact it's more symbolic of a very distinctly shared history and community.
Good call. The fact is a lot of the time in early queer communities there was nowhere near the distinction between orientation and gender. And that is probably exactly why there’s no first hand sources I can find on the topic - it simply wasn’t a relevant issue to the people involved first hand.
Sylvia Rivera called herself a drag queen and a gay man too, yet was openly trans and on HRT at the end of her life. Insisting there’s no possible way Marsha could have been trans just because she called herself a gay man at one point is erasing that Sylvia did the exact same thing. Transgender just wasn’t a term commonly used at all at that time and people don’t get that.
look i really don’t care if my dysphoria is caused by some internalized whatever ok? life is short and im a monkey on a rock with only a fraction of an understanding of the depth of the universe lemme cut off my tit if that soothes my monkey brain
For most of my life, I genuinely thought that chopping off my breasts was the only thing that could soothe my monkey brain. Few years later, it’s soothed without surgery and I don’t even bind anymore. Turns out our monkey brain is pretty flexible if we allow it to change and heal.
I already spent multiple years identifying as detransitioned and denying myself. Personally I didn't find it helpful, but its nice that you did.
Is gender identity “real” in the sense that it’s something you can see and touch? No, but it’s real in the sense that it shapes people’s actions and the way they move through the world. Feelings on their own may not be tangible reality but they influence reality and in a sense become real that way. And it’s really not hard to just not be a dick about it and respect what people want to be called.
How’d I go from a gender critical detransitioned abolitionist to a nonbinary trender you ask? WELL to keep it short I only latched onto the ideology because I was confused about my transition and radfems seemed accepting of me for being detransitioned. I had personal reasons for wanting to stop transition and it was hard for me to talk about that in mainstream trans circles, so I gravitated towards the people who told me they really, really wanted to hear my story! It took me a while to see that I was only accepted as long as I parroted the right things to say about transition (the same thing they accuse the “trans cult” of lol) and that my story was only valuable to them because it proved some point about how Trans Bad
I can’t associate myself with a community that decided Trump wasn’t all bad after he announced the trans military ban, or picked up the slogan “Drop the T” from Milo Y, a nazi, or lets conservative men like Glinner speak for them despite supposedly having no need for men. How can you act like trans people existing in society has all these unseen consequences while outright ignoring the direct consequence of your own actions? You guys don’t get to use my story.
Anyone who thinks nonbinary is some teenage phase thing hasn’t seen the amount of people pushing 30 who are only just coming out after years of being afraid of being “cringe” and finally accepting that having a cringy gender is better than being sad about it
Are you going to any protests?
nice try FBI; if anybody gets a message like this don’t be stupid and share anything about whether or not you’ll be attending a specific action. spreading the word from official social medias of your local BYP100/black lives matter chapters is one thing (though still be careful), don’t fuck around with sharing info about your location, who you’re going with to actions, etc.
Any mental health treatment that communicates “you are disordered and the world is normal, so success means integrating into those norms” has as its goal social control, not healing
Lol I grew up surrounded by butch lesbians (my aunt, my church pastor, etc) and I can fucking guarantee any terf would look at them and mistake them for a man immediately

the mountain goats are the band to listen to if you’re looking for hyper-specific depictions of very dark times in your life told through metaphors about grocery stores and wrestling
yeah I’m a nonpracticing woman. I was raised female but I don’t really believe anymore yknow?
“Corporations supporting things like BLM and Pride is largely performative and shouldn’t be overly praised or focused on. They’re just trying to do what they think will earn them money” and “Corporations openly showing support for things like BLM and Pride are incredibly important” and not mutually exclusive ideas.
Corporation support is not the source of social change, it’s the visible indication of it. A mall covered in rainbow flags with ‘pride month sales!’ is nothing that makes LGBT people more accepted, nor do tweets from companies about supporting the BLM protests do anything to stop police violence, but they DO show the shift in public mindset. Corporations don’t take risks. They don’t make bold statements that they feel are unpopular or will lose them money or support. They’re a litmus test for when a statement or symbol that has been taboo becomes a commonly held belief.
When a corporation makes these kinds of statements, it means that the people out there fighting every day for these movements are having an effect. Their fight is causing a change in social perception to the point where businesses who carefully choose every single thing they say can post about solidarity with protesters and feel confidant that they are saying something that represents the feelings and beliefs of the majority. A mall being covered in Pride flags is a sign that the country will accept a mall filled with Pride flags. That those working to make social and cultural change are succeeding.
your brain has been warped by tumblr if you honestly believe that a subset of a subset of the population, that many people who don’t spend all their time on tumblr haven’t even heard of, is the reason people are homophobic
