Dismantling centuries of systemic injustice will require work on part of everyone, from political representatives to business leaders and citizens
Check out this collection of recommendations on achieving equity in the US, including Vilissa Thompson’s thoughts on ending ableism as well as views from other advocates on topics from health care to environmental justice.

Exploring the Ethics of Human Settlement in Space
Making New Worlds is a podcast about the ethical issues of human settlements in space. I recently found this podcast through JustSpace, https://justspacealliance.org/, by Erika Nesvold, Ph.D. astrophysicist and a lifelong space travel enthusiast.

After my Board meeting this Friday morning, I tuned in to this powerful panel discussing Indigenous & anticolonial views of space exploration. I found some great organizations through the information shared today, as well as a treasure trove of white papers on space ethics.
In the Spring of 1943, three days before his 18th birthday, a young man named Frank Kameny enlisted in the army. World War II was raging on both sides of E...
I learned about Frank Kameny today. I had no idea the work this gay veteran has done for us, particularly in the space sector.
Nonbinary Systems: Looking Towards the Future of Gender Equity in Planetary Science; A State of the Profession White Paper for the Planetary Science and Astrobiology Decadal Survey 2023-2032
by Beck Strauss, Schuyler R. Borges, Thea Faridani, Jennifer A. Grier, Avery Kiihne, Erin R. Maier, Charlotte Olsen, Theo O'Neill, Edgard G. Rivera-Valentín, Evan L. Sneed, Dany Waller, and Vic Zamloot “Most studies of gender equity in planetary science are performed by space scientists with no background in gender studies or sociology. As a result, their methods harm planetary scientists whose genders do not fit into a male/female binary. We recommend better survey practices and institutional policies based on a more profound approach to gender.” https://baas.aas.org/pub/2021n4i442/release/1?readingCollection=7272e5bb

I will be using this blog more to document research I find (white papers, articles, etc) on anti-colonialism, worker’s rights, inequity, and exclusion in space exploration. I will also share more of my own academic and professional experiences in the space sector.
Reluctant Leadership
Through many of my extracurricular roles, I am irrefutably a ‘leader’, but I have never had the passion for it and often cringe at the thought of leadership. This is peculiar to me, as I have a visceral passion to pioneer in advancing human space development and exploration. ‘Pioneer’ is without a doubt synonymous with ‘Leader’. I believe I am coming to realize why this role has felt so abrasive to me. When I think of a leader, what comes to mind is all the soft skills that are required, being assumed to be a people person, and the expectancy to be a public speaker. As an autistic person, this terrifies me. I am painfully aware of my shortfallings. If I could overcome them, I think I would be such a power house. Unstoppable, even. Hoping always to be influential and inspiring other non-traditional leaders to ascend and make their voices heard. Beyond the many obstacles that autism can manifest in a neurotypically developed world, I have often been repelled by the traditional gender roles in leadership, management, etc. These days, I am often perceived as a man, but I was once perceived to be a woman. When presumed to be a woman, I was almost always offered leadership roles blindly, without knowing much of my merit. It felt as though women were assumed to have a natural drive to take on the soft skills of managing teams. While I will always appreciate those leadership opportunities given to me, as they propelled me to where I am today, I felt stuck and closed off from the hands-on and technical roles I would much rather be skilled in.
An ideal role for me, if I am to continue taking leadership positions, would be a non-hierarchical leadership style where I am still involved with the hands-on and technical aspects of the projects I find myself in, as well as guide my team to successful completion through compassion, understanding, and resiliency to setbacks. I am autistic. I am genderqueer. I am nonbinary. I am transgender. I want to be a better leader and feel as confident as those I see on the countless panels I watch with starry eyes. If I could just grasp this significantly difficult skill, and excel with it, I know it would truly unlock my potential to shake up the world.
Repost from @baeby_huey2.0 using @RepostRegramApp - “MORE COLOR MORE PRIDE
In 1978, artist Gilbert Baker designed the original rainbow flag. An iconic symbol of LGBTQ+ unity. So much has happened since then. A lot of good, but there’s more we can do. Especially when it comes to recognizing people of color in the LGBTQ+ community. To fuel this important conversation, we’ve expanded the colors of the flag to include black and brown. It may seem like a small step. But together we can make big strides toward a truly inclusive community.” —————————————————————————- This is dope! But acknowledging racism in the LGBTQ+ community is just a start. Hopefully attitudes and behaviors change as well. #PrideMonth #MoreColorMorePride
[image description: a new pride flag photo with two new colors added, making the new color sequence from top to bottom - black, brown, red, orange, yellow, green (with a white text overlay reading hashtag More Color More Pride), blue, purple (with white text over this purple block discussing the importance of this new pride flag) ]
“Philadelphia raised a brand new Pride flag yesterday featuring brown and black stripes as a symbol of the City of Brotherly Love’s embrace of LGBTQ people of color.”
[image description: Four panels of photos - each one with the same genderqueer person, cropped to show just the chest & upper torso, wearing the same outfit; a dark blue short sleeve dress shirt with a tie of various shades of blue diagonal stripes. From the top and left-to-right of each row, the panels show a progression of revealing chewable jewelry stowed behind the tie when worn] How I frequently wear a Kryptobite pendant from ark therapeutic to my college campus. A tie's keeper loop provides a nice stowing area and protects the pendant from accidentally touching dirty surfaces. This is a necessary item for me to have available at any moment and this is a secure way to wear it. This might vary for others depending on length of tie and length of cord for the pendant.
I love you!

Happy Pride everyone! I made this from a photo and couldn’t resist sharing!
It’s been simple for me to go through life with a cis woman’s identity, despite it never fitting quite right.
