future adaptations need to lean in to making the Count just like, a little more fucking weird i think. i mean to an extent his behavior speaks for itself but Sam Claflin isn't giving much beyond long shots brooding soulfully and the thing is the whole 'oooh come and see an execution with me' and 'come tour my fancy house with a spooky past and look at my poisons' is still all part of the schtick. everyone's fascinated and compelled because they're bored rich Parisians and they eat that shit up. but it could be doing something more interesting with the way he's supposed to be disconcertingly intense. it's there but it's. idk. feeling watered-down. need the sort of guy where multiple people are also looking at him like 'hey you know that vampire Byron wrote about' and 'babygirl you are bizarre and off-putting'
he doesn't actually know how to socialize with people he was nineteen he spent his early adulthood in solitary and then with one (1) other guy who had also been in solitary he's been practicing being a person for like five years. he's only getting away with this because he's studied really hard and he's rich as fuccck. and he's not coming out of the Chateau d'If not riddled with neuroses. I thiunk this guy sleeps on the floor bc he can't fall asleep in a real-person bed.
