Cheat Sheets for Writing Body Language
We are always told to use body language in our writing. Sometimes, it’s easier said than written. I decided to create these cheat sheets to help you show a character’s state of mind. Obviously, a character may exhibit a number of these behaviours. For example, he may be shocked and angry, or shocked and happy. Use these combinations as needed.
by Amanda Patterson
You guys, this is such a great chart especially for budding writers. Sometimes it’s more effective to show a character being bored or excited or shocked without explicitly saying so.
I love this
trying to steer dialogue towards a certain plot point while trying to make it sound natural
The struggle is real.
ALRIGHT. LISTEN UP.
So recently, I got calls from the phone number, (937) 353-8319. They claim to be a job service, and one of their “employees”, Carrigan, is friends with whoever the call recipient is, and that Carrigan has recommended you for this $15.00/h “job”. I also got a text message from (937) 607-1493, claiming to be Carrigan, and that they need stuff to “win a scholarship”. I do not know anyone by the name of Carrigan and I know very well that this is a very dangerous scam. If you receive a call from a number, and they ask you if you would like a job for $15.00/h, HANG UP IMMEDIATELY. If you accept the “job” offer, and you go in for an interview, they will give you a drugged bottle of water and you will wake up somewhere you don’t want to be. These phone calls & texts are from a human trafficking service, and if you oblige to them, you will be sold to people and you will be raped, no doubt about it. So PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT ANSWER THESE CALLS OR TEXTS. I have listened to the voicemails, and allowed my dad to do the same, and he learned that anyone offering a $15.00/h “job” is a human trafficker. PLEASE SIGNAL BOOST THIS ALL OVER TUMBLR
Okay, I am reblogging this because it is relevant again. I got another call from a 353 number. Not the exact same number, but I know that it is a trafficker because it’s 353 just like the last one. I also want this to signal boost so PLEASE REBLOG THIS.
Why are people deleting the captions though I had to search for what the pictures meant don’t do that
a side note, because theyre very popular around the DMV, If you ever see a sign with something akin to ‘free debt erasure’ ‘15/h job’ etc and ONLY A PHONE NUMBER, ignore it. tear it down if you can, because those are well known scams and sex-trafficking baits.do not, by any means, call or respond to these messages. do not let your friends do it. do not.
THIS IS IMPORTANT AF THANK Y’ALL HOLY SHIT
Oklahoma is one of the worst states as far as human trafficking, so thank y’all so fucking much. That’s literally my life and the lives of everyone I know that y’all just saved. Thank you. Thank you thank you thank you
*FUCKING SPAMS REBLOG*
guys pls this needs more reblogs
NO, NO, LISTEN HERE:
I am 100% sure most people reblogging this are doing it to help people, and I am 100% sure the people texting you are a scam, but the whole “human trafficking” thing is false. For one thing, that’s a terrible way to get people for trafficking, it looks suspicious af to have ads for a job hanging up in random places (especially with no company) and it’s incredibly risky - people who *are* kidnapped tend to be people who won’t be missed, or whose disappearance will go unnoticed.
Seriously, guys, Google is a friend. Two seconds brings up plenty of articles detailing how this is false, including a pretty indepth one from snopes: https://www.snopes.com/interview-for-trafficking/
Whoever originally posted either 1. Was victim to a regular scam and is freaking out based on the old, false reports of these things being linked to trafficking, or 2. is trying to spread misinformation to scare people. That account is now deactivated, so I feel like the later is incredibly possible.
This is fear mongering and while it seems harmless (and ignoring texts like this is not a bad idea, definitely do not reply to these people, at best their telemarketers and at worse they’re connected to some other scam) but misinformation is never good. For one thing it doesn’t help anyone, and certainly not any real victims. Again, victims are usually those who traffickers believe won’t be “missed” - a huge percentage of which were kids in foster care: http://humantraffickingsearch.org/foster-care-and-human-trafficking-nexus/
Obviously, it’s always a good idea if you’re going in for a job interview anywhere that’s not a big, well-known corporation (or anywhere new for the first time) to tel someone so they know where you are, but their isn’t any connection between job advertisements for young people and human trafficking.

Just an experiment. Reblog if you actually give a fuck about male victims of domestic violence and rape.
Of fucking course
What sick bastard doesn’t
“You’d be surprised”, said Xaldien, who just lost four followers and received a lovely “men can’t be raped” anon shortly after reblogging this the first time.
Yowch, disgusting.
If I don’t reblog this, assume I’m dead.
Always reblog this
If you Dont reblog this if u see it then i cant call u my friend
IF ANYONE TELLS ME THAT MEN CAN’T BE VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND RAPE, I AM SICKENED BY THEIR MERE PRESENCE ON MY BLOG.
If you disagree with me, unfollow my blog, block me and never look at my blog again.
If you want to debate about this or send anon’s about this, I will reply but your actions have consequences.
Out of 19000+ followers I have, only one of you actually reblogged about this issue, yet a lot of you have reblogged and liked a picture by playboy about catcalling and that how men should never do it.
Additionally, I have received abuse in my ask box (which I will be answering when I can) and threats. In particular death threats and rape threats.
I can see the real problem here already. Male domestic violence and rape is just invisible in our society because we don’t want to talk about this because it just damages the status quo of this fucking website.
I’m a male victim of child sexual abuse. We matter. Please, reblog this.
Please never forget male victims are real and it can happen to everyone/anyone
Make sure the romance is there on both sides people
Had a male friend attacked by another dude. was pretty scary.
I once heard someone try to claim women couldn’t possibly rape men because how would they over power them.
Then like two seconds later was like “Well I guess they could drug them, or use a gun, but still”
Also friendly reminder that male rape is frighteningly common in prisons and not only largely ignored, it’s joked about on television and the internet without anyone blinking an eye.
Years ago, you promised your firstborn to a witch. Since then, despite your best efforts, you can’t seem to get laid. The witch is starting to get pretty pissed.
Y’all get together to discuss your options and she starts coaching you on how to get men because she doesn’t want to waste more magic on you without promise of payment. The more time you guys spend together the more you realize you have a bit of a crush on her. Soon you’re sabotaging your dates on purpose to see her again.
Long story short you fall in love and get married and do the sperm donor thing AND YOUR FIRSTBORN IS HERS BY DEFAULT and you live happily ever after. The end.
Baby cries in the middle of the night
Witch: Ughhhhh. It’s your turn.
You: You bought it. You handle it.
That is what I call a fairy tale ending.
Reblog if you love to write.
Whether it be fanfiction, original stories, drabbles, songs, poems, books, or anything that has to do with creative words, then reblog. Let’s gather all the writers of Tumblr together.
Note to self: in order to write, you have to actually do more than stare at a Word document rereading what you’ve already written. For example, maybe typing new words would be a good strategy.

Writing: Dealing with Criticism
One thing all writers are going to have to deal with - Hell, most people no matter what they’re doing - is criticism. For most people, it can be very upsetting, and a lot of younger writers can get very defensive about their work. Which, of course, it all makes sense: no one wants to know that they’re baby isn’t as amazing as they thought.
Now, there are two types of criticism you can receive:
1. Constructive criticism, also called a critique, where you are given reasonable complaints and a detailed analysis on a work or part of a work where you can improve your work based on what they said.
2. Shitty criticism. Basically, things like “this sucks. This character sucks. Your pose suck, etc.” without any context to actually help you.
A few things that are important to remember: criticism of a piece of writing is not a reflection on you as a person or as a writer overall. It is based on reading that particular piece. It is also important to remember criticism can be helpful, but still rude or hurtful - but writers need to have a thick skin and be able to separate the helpful stuff from the shit. Also, not all criticism is equally helpful. A person might mean well, but they might be getting too nit-picky or sharing something that is just an opinion and not actually an objective issue with the writing.
Somethings you should definitely think about if they’re brought up in a critique:
If someone says something is too confusing or vague. Remember you wrote the piece, you know more than the audience does. To you, something might make perfect sense: a line of dialogue, what the setting looks like, how events play out, etc, but the audience only knows what you write or what is easily inferred. If someone finds something confusing, it might be worth it to double check and make sure there are enough details. Now, it’s completely possible that one reader might not be the brightest crayon in the box, so it’s also usually a good idea to get multiple opinions. If a number of people are confused, you should probably rework things.
Any confusions with tone. This will not necessarily come as a negative criticism. It might come as a compliment: “Lol this chapter was so funny!” But you meant it to be serious. When writing, sometimes it’s hard for tone to come out the way we interpret it. Have you ever sent a harmless text and someone got offended? Or tried to send an email and someone tells you it was “unprofessional” when you thought it was fine? Tone is something that can easily be missed or misinterpreted in writing, so if a few readers are interpreting the scene wrong, it might be a good idea to see how you can clarify what is happening.
When people complain about things being too convenient or just kind of happening. Sometimes as writers we are too focused on getting to a certain point in the story that we forget the story needs to flow logically and most events need to happen as a direct result of the things that came before it. Otherwise, we can fall into very convenient things happening to the protagonist and the world or Dues ex Machina’s coming to save the day. It’s also the type of thing a lot of readers might ignore or not pick up on right away, so someone pointing it out is probably either a very avid reader or a writer themselves.
Obviously, any helpful detailed criticism is something you should probably at least consider during editing or rewrites. Most importantly, remember criticism is important, and someone giving a detailed critique of your book isn’t trying to personally insult you. In fact, someone taking that time out of their day to do so is actually being really nice - free writing advice tailored to your book! Score!

Writing tip: Consider sacrificing your social life to Satan in exchange for being a gifted writer
What she says: I’m fine
What she means: Can vampires enter rented spaces? I don’t own my apartment, so do I have the rights to invite a vampire into my house, or does the landlord? Or does anyone have the power to invite a vampire into any residence? Vampires can enter public spaces without invitation, but what about hotels? What about small businesses where the owners live in back or on the floor above? What public spaces even remain in the hellacape of late capitalism?
