Iām. Tired af rn but on the way home from lab today. On the INTERSTATE. I saw someoneās Hawlucha TETHERED TO THEIR TRUCK BED and flying like a kite while the driver was doing 95 in a 70. They prob hadnāt been on the road for long and the Hawlucha seemed to be having fun (I study flying type behavior and this dude was so in the zone) but like. ???
I had a sensible chuckle watching them get pulled over almost immediately after I noticed them. But like. Is this just another mild-to-moderate case of Alola? If this was legal Iād be disappointed but not surprised. Iām just nosy af Iām so curious whatās gonna happen to this guy
the sheer anxiety this made me experience LMAO
so everything about this is incredibly illegal and dangerous. even without the pokemon, driving that fast is liable to end poorly. adding a pokemon into the mix just makes it worse. hawlucha are phenomenal at controlling their gliding, but they normally only reach those speeds while diving. if the truck were to slam on its breaks, the hawlucha might not be able to adjust in time and end up getting thrown to the end of the line. it could get caught on a road sign or low bridge. a hawlucha tethered to a moving vehicle is also effectively a projectile if the line snaps, and it's a huge distraction/potential obstacle for other vehicles. it's not safe for the pokemon or the other drivers!
so, as amusing as the image is, i imagine the trainer got a pretty hefty fine and may well have had their hawlucha confiscated. i wouldn't be surprised if their license got suspended. there are plenty of ways to provide safe flight-based enrichment to avian pokemon that don't involve turning them into a missile attached to your car!
