as a poet in modern era, unfortunately i do not understand modern poetry. im a snail. i admire slowness of rhythm. quickness confuses me thrice.
i love you. i want both of us to eat well. [hands you your vitamins]
Two lovers have reincarnated throughout history, destined to find each other and fall in love all over again. Thereâs also this third guy that reincarnates alongside them⌠we donât really know what he does.
is he their divorce attorney . . ?
deleting my pieces from twitter so they are not fed into ai garbage machine. really feels like im witnessing the burning of alexandria library but i am all; the watcher, the arsonist and the village guy nearby who cannot stop coughing âcause of the smoke.
don't you just Love when corporate pigs make their platforms inaccessible for the vast small communities of creatives that is keeping the lights of their basement every few weeks? really biting the hand that feeds them because the only bit of sense that ever leaves their egoistic brain is a gogogaga tantrum.
If you're lamenting the fact that you used to be able to shoot through a 500-page novel in like a day when you were in middle school and now you can't, it's worth bearing in mind that a big part of that is because when you were in middle school, your reading comprehension sucked. Yes, mental health and the stresses of adult life can definitely be factors, but it's also the case that reading is typically more effortful as an adult because you've learned to Ponder The Implications. The material isn't just skimming over the surface of your brain anymore, and some of the spoons you used to spend on maximising your daily page count are now spent on actually thinking about what you're reading!
Reading as a kid: "I can tell that this is supposed to be an emotionally moving ending, but I genuinely cannot remember who two-thirds of these characters are."
Reading as an adult: *reads a paragraph* *pauses* *reads the same paragraph again* *flips back and re-reads the preceding page to make sure you didn't misunderstand something* *stares into space for ten minutes as the Implications sink in*
recently, i switched from google to duckduckgo [in solidarity w palestine] and so far, the search results are so much better. quite effective if you're someone like me who researches/reads alot.
as we are denouncing israel products, hope magazines and writers boycott wix which is an israeli company. there are many paid and/or free alternatives for hosting websites and portfolios. art, that is a revolution in its nature, should not be benefitting apartheid.
"what advice do you have for new writers?" well i could say the typical (but important!) "practice" "read books" but my PERSONAL advice as someone who's been writing since he was a toddler is as follows: feel every emotion u can & touch every texture u can & search for obscure facts or antiquated words or animal behavior or something you wouldn't normally think about. the most arbitrary things can bring inspiration. branch out! leave your comfort zone and seek things that are new & unknown to you. learn to find wonder and beauty in some aspect of the world, but hopefully many aspects. learn how to be patient tbh. fall in any kind of love with anything. most importantly treat yourself with kindness and care and forgiveness - i get wanting to write about pain, trust me, but also trust me, your writing will evolve as your perception of yourself softens. oh yeah and always have a pen on you
[made rebloggable by request]
read like a motherfucker. donât learn from your betters, just inhale them. imprint rhythms and chokeholds and things-that-shoot-up-your-spine into your fingertips. read how romance novels create characters so vivid you want to fuck them and have them be fucked. read brutal minimalism and extravagant prose. read childrenâs books to remember about wonder and post-modernists to remember about freedom. read because at some point you will be so full with the consumption of language you will need to start pouring it back out again.
write like an asshole. write things when youâve stayed up so late you are delirious. write when youâre drunk. write when a song has made you feel catastrophic. write when youâre famished. write when youâre spitting mad. write so you donât curl up in the bottom of a shower and sob. write when people have torn strips off you. write when youâre high on adrenaline. write because thereâs a monster on your back and you need to make it real and separate from your soul. eventually, you will not need any of these props to make you brave enough.
seriously. thatâs it.
"We have on this land all of that which makes life worth living On this land, the lady of our land The mother of all beginnings, and the mother of all ends She was called Palestine, her name later became Palestine" - Mahmoud Darwish
I'm giving away free art prints of this piece to anyone who donates $50+ to relief organizations in support of Palestine. More info on my instagram.
indiviualism is such a parasite to humanity and self. i pray more people open their hearts with courtesy. to live with such a shallow heart that would not ache for others and expands a little to make space for them, is absolutely a worthless perception of living. we are bound to remember each other's sorrow, we are bound to shoulder this grief together esp if the other person becomes perpectually absent. the highest form of love is respect and the highest form of respect is the very act of remembrance.
way before i even thought of sharing my works on twitter (and deleting it all because i grew out of my own style) i used to post on insta. i was that insta âstuck at 8th grade nihilismâ writer and as much iâve grown and improved, iâd always be curious if insta community is welcoming of what iâve to offer now (not that iâd step a foot there even with a sword in my hand but still . . )
hello! i am a previous asks. I asked you if can write something inspired by your display name weeks back. i finally did, and thought sharing with you!
