The official mission for this blog is: to help promote creativity and commerce around the Ghost Hunters Adventure Club IP.

If your not familiar with that IP we recommend you find and read both Ghost Hunters Adventure Club books. (Available in both hardcover and audiobook here) Or at your local library with the assistance of a trained librarian.

In case you need some motivation i will say that: Ghost Hunters Adventure Club is a collection of fun, accessible, young adult mysteries with four-quadrant market appeal; ready to be upstreamed to film and television with its loveable characters and affordable action setpieces.

Chapter 1: An Explosive Beginning

J.J and Valentine Watts dismounted their motorcycle. Remembering that they had traded the kickstand for gas at the base of the mountains, J.J. laid it gingerly on the snowy pavement near a row of sportscars that might have been driven up in better weather. Before them stood the Grande Chateau, a snowy escape overlooking the cascading mountains a short drive away from Harborville, the boy's hometown. A warm glow was emanating from its windows. Valentine immediately tucked his fingers after all.

"Hmm," said Valentine.

"What is it?" asked J.J., shaking the frost off his red sweater.

"Well, for a place called the Grande Chateau, don't you think it's kind of… regular-sized?"

"C'mon, we'll be late," said J.J. "If someone pays us to solve the Mystery of the Regular-Sized Chateau then we'll go and solve the Mystery of the Regular-Sized Chateau."

"Do you think this guy's serious about the ghosts?" asked Valentine.

"Does it make a difference?"

"To me, yeah."

Favorite books I read in 2020:

1. Bloody Jack by L.A. Meyer

I am so thrilled to have started this series! Jacky Faber became my hero so quickly. She’s the smart, flawed, inspiring heroine of my dreams. I love reading about her perfectly piratey adventures, which don’t sacrifice any of the realistic struggles that came with the time period. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves pirates, history, or just needs an escape.

2. Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik

This is hands down the best use of multiple perspectives in a book I’ve ever seen. Each character’s point of view, formed by their unique upbringings and troubles, adds to the vibrant fairy tale world. This book is longer than I usually read and it took me a couple tries to get through, but every page was worth it. This book also features several strong and inspiring heroines, and their delightfully morally gray leading men. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves fairy tales or dreams about snow.

3. Ghost Hunters Adventure Club and the Secret of the Grand Chateau by Dr. Cecil H. H. Mills

I’m not even sorry. I liked this book so much. It was exactly the level of cheese I needed during quarantine. This book doesn’t take itself too seriously, while paying a loving tribute to the likes of Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys. I’d recommend this to anyone who loves a fun mystery or just needs a laugh.

One of my professors told me recently “You aren’t in the drivers or passengers seat when you write a story. The characters are in the drivers seat and they’ve locked you in the trunk” and I mean he’s not wrong.

I think my favorite explanation ever of the relationship between the author and the characters comes from a book called 'The Ghost Hunters Adventure Club and the Secret of the Grande Chateau' [yes, the one that's supposedly written by the totally real great-uncle of one of the Game Grumps]. But in it, the author writes himself into the world and explains to one of his characters that the connection between him and them is like "stale rubber bands". That he cannot control them, not completely.

And that just stuck with me, because it's so right. Yes, you the writer are putting the words down, but you're not in control. And I just find that very very cool.
