Took a wrong turn somewhere
i took a nap and woke up in all these goddam spinanch
Just saw a tweet that said "it's not enough to only talk about boundaries and consent. you also have to actively and regularly demonstrate you're safe to say no to" and i'm thinking about how this is Neil for Andrew, time and again. Even before getting together it was always a tug on clothing or a hand to block his vision. And Neil not even realising that he instinctively does this for Andrew so much so that it takes him a second to register when Andrew tells him "that's why" because Andrew, Andrew has been taking note every time, Andrew has to carefully asses each movement and reaction because if Neil slipped up even once it would be too dangerous, but Neil just does not disappoint to the point where Andrew finally finally feels comfortable enough to reveal this to Neil. And even Neil is sort of left stunned because he couldn't begin to imagine how important a relatively small action on his part could mean so much. Because "It wasn't much but it was more than enough." Neil ticks all the boxes without even knowing or trying. He is and always was going to be Andrew's person.
i think 98% of my problems would be solved if i could just sleep like a normal person. alas, like a [hang on a second i gotta look up animals that dont sleep often or at all] juvenile tilapia, i am awake way too much
more people would exercise if this culture didn't make it absolute hell
I teach martial arts. we play games with the little kids. they swordfight with noodles and throw foam balls at each other. in the summer, we take them out into the parking lot with water guns. in the winter, we have snowball fights.
the teenagers get swords and staffs and practice knives. we teach them moves from marvel movies that they ask about. they get squirt guns and snowball fights too. we let them goof off and climb the support beams and charge directly at each other in padded suits.
sometimes parents say they miss doing things like that. I tell them, "stay for an adult class. just try it out." we build obstacle courses and let them mess around with training rifles. they chat while sparring. we scream and cheer for them when they're in the middle of a circle. and then we send them out to the parking lot with squirt guns and snowballs.
it's exercise. it's healthy. it's an important life skill. and it's fun as fuck.

I thought this was inherent but you have to care about trans people you don’t want to fuck too
this is like the 15th time someone has left a tag like this
It costs you 0$ to accept that trans minors exist. It also costs 0$ to accept some trans people don’t want to fuck you and have worth outside of their fuckability
this is literally the exact kind of shit I’m talking about. fucking stop. you are gross
And this is why we used to make cars out of STEEL instead of FIBERGLASS! Sure, fiberglass is a lot lighter in weight and hence a hell of a lot better for gas mileage. But you hit anything at more than 20 mph and the entire body explodes off the fucking thing, and now you’re spending more to repair the car than it’s worth because you need a entire front end, read end, or side panel. They can’t just take the damaged section off, beat it out with a hammer, sand it, and repaint it.
Everything is made with the idea of it being easier to replace than to maintain, aka planned obsolescence. Thanks, capitalism
You guys are obscenely, dangerously wrong.
It’s not planned obsolescence, it’s physics.
Modern cars crumple to absorb and distribute the forces of impact in an accident in an effort to protect the occupants. When cars didn’t have those crumple zones, the occupants, being the soft, squishy things they were, took those forces and were mangled or killed in horrible ways. Also, those older cars took hidden damage that often went unnoticed and made them very dangerous to drive. IT’s really easy to hide a twisted frame when all you need to do to make the car look okay is a bit of sanding and paint.
I recently watched a TV show where a small sedan was run over by the trailer of an eighteen-wheeler. Run. Over. They had to unwrap the crumpled ball of a car from the undercarriage of that trailer. Guess what? The driver suffered only minor injuries because the car collapsed in exactly the way it was designed to so that she, in the very strong frame surrounding the passenger compartment, was protected.
And no, don’t thank capitalism for these modern cars. Thank Ralph Nader and countless other safety activists who worked tirelessly to make car manufacturers accountable for the safety of the people who drove their cars.
I’m an estimator for a major insurance company which means I spend all day, every day, around wrecked cars. I’ve been to the NHTSA, I’ve attended a crash test. I have actually seen and put hands on both the vehicles in the .gif above. The idea that old cars are somehow built better or are “tanks” or whatever is not only wrong, it’s dangerous. New cars are built to “crunch” so you don’t have to.
This is the 59 Bel Aire post crash - notice that the area where the driver sits is significantly compromised. The person driving this car would have died in this 35mph crash.
This is the Malibu - crunched? Yes! But the area where the driver sits is not crushed.
I have seen modern cars keep people alive in horrifying accidents. Cars are objectively better and safer in every single way than they were 10, 20, 30 years ago. Anyone who tells you otherwise is wrong. Period.
Also modern passenger cars are definitely not made of fiberglass. What even?
Every car has a crumple zone. If your car does not have a crumple zone, YOU are the crumple zone
When ETD’s car got hit at the start of the year, the front driver side crumpled like aluminum foil, and that is precisely why he survived a head-on collision with a dingbat driver who ran a stop sign at full speed. It’s the same reason the other dude survived too, despite being hit by a much bigger car also going at full speed. Also while I’m at it, wear yer dang seatbelts.
Hey that’s me up there! I used to be @tsrabbits, im still an adjuster, still write thousands of estimates a year. I had an interaction with an old wrecker driver here recently though, which I think bears repeating. We were talking about a very gnarly accident we were both working on and he said:
“I’ve only cut a dead person out of a seatbelt once in the past 15 years”
Which is.. true, the majority of fatal wrecks I see are unbelted. Trust the technology in your car (NOT YOU TESLA,) wear your seatbelt, resist road rage. You’ll be fine.
