In these scary, confusing, and awful times, let us all remember some of the numerous lessons from Courage the Cowardly Dog
It’s alright to be scared pantsless on a regular basis.
Courage is NOT “the absence of fear,” it’s “acting in spite of fear,” beating back the evil, protecting those you love, and saving innocent victims from bad guys even if you’re completely, absolutely terrified.
When you’re faced with something confusing, terrifying, and completely (sometimes literally) alien to you, your first impulse (after screaming and running around terrified) should be to go to your computer and learn more about it.
The most beautiful things can come from the most ugly, strange, and unexpected of places. Do not be afraid or hostile to something or someone just because they’re “different.”
You should also remember that these “different” people have loved ones just like you.
Sometimes, people will do horrible, terrible things to you for seemingly no reason, with no obvious answers in sight.
While there is no excusing their actions, there’s much to be said for finding out WHY they’re doing it and understanding their reasons behind it.
Sometimes, you might find out that you can help them and make everyone a whole lot happier.
There will be times when you meet truly terrible, awful, horrific people; sometimes, these terrible people will be from a different race (or species) than you.
From that experience, You might develop the belief that EVERYONE who is that race/species is a terrible, awful, horrible, person, and deserves nothing but hate, contempt, and hostility from you.
One individual does not represent their whole race, their whole species, their whole group. In an imperfect world like ours, there’s always a bad apple in every bunch somewhere. On the flipside, however, there’s also some very good apples that will prove your negative beliefs wrong, and then some.
Appearances can be VERY deceiving. Who you thought to be the “Good Guys” could be the “Bad Guys” all along…
… And who you thought to be the “Bad Guys” turn out to be not so Bad after all.
You NEVER have to conform to other people’s expectations about what you should be, their definition of “Perfect.”
You are “Perfect” just the way you are, whatever your way is, and the world will be infinitely better for you being your particular brand of wonderful and sometimes weird.
And some days, you might forget that, and need a talking fish in a bathtub to remind you of it.
ALWAYS be wary of the power of greed, jealousy, vanity, and so many other sins and vices. You never know WHAT you might free in your quest for more, more, and more–or what others might unleash, and you will have to deal with.
Bullies were oftentimes bullied themselves.
While it’s DEFINITELY not true for everyone, sometimes the meanest, most cruel, and hateful people are hurting plenty inside.
We should all be doing our best to spread love, kindness, and break the cycles of abuse and hate that just spawn more hate and abuse.
When horrible tragedies, terrible people, and forces outside of control take away the ones you love…
… You should always remember that there’s always going to be someone out there who will gladly love you in their stead.
There’s plenty more important lessons from this show. But this is all the time and the images I have for this post.
