This fanfiction shit is easyyyy
i personally believe bbc ghosts season 3 episode 3: woodworm men to be one of the best episodes of television ever. peak sitcom. its the perfect mix of comfort, familiarity and humor to me. as a self proclaimed sitcom autistic (degree in... having a sitcom special interest) its one of my favorite/comfort sitcoms ever, and that episode is perfect. it includes all the characters in such a fun way and i love the concept of them camping outside. i love this fucking show
Plus it's probably the closest to filler we ever get in the series, but it's so good. The writers are able to create an episode that doesn't move the plot along nor does any huge reveals about the ghosts lives happen in the ep is just amazing and shows how strong the scripts are that they don't need to depend on shock or revelations to have such a strong episode of television.
I love the idea of Humphrey being a wife guy while simultaniously not actually being romantically attracted to Sophie. Like she is legally his wife through marriage and he thinks she is a badass, but neither of them are in love with each other. In another universe they would be best friends, but alas she was French instead
Someone write a modern au where Humphrey and Sophie are shipped together and hate it, but when people stop they realise they both really like each other platonically and become a dynamic duo.
Why I love Ghosts (and why you should watch it too)
Please keep the comments spoiler free
1. The cast is made up of 6 writers who have worked on projects together in the past and the chemistry between them and their other co stars in the show is amazing
2. There's a clear love from all the cast and crew for the show which is always a good sign
3. The way the show is made makes the majority of episodes bottle episodes, which gives a lot to character moments and there's no random plot lines just to get an episode out which don't work that well
4. Even in filler episodes they are so well written that even though there's no need for them narrative wise, they are still so much fun to watch
5. The characters are amazingly written. It's natural for all characters to fall into archetypes which the characters tend to do, but the writers and actors are able to use the archetypes to expand the characters and give them relatability and surprises to the audience
6. The character interactions are some of the best I've ever seen, the actors have such beautiful chemistry that you could put any characters together as a pair or group and it'll work no matter the combination. Plus the characters are so strong that they work on their own
7. The writers are so well able to balance the emotional moments with the comedic moments. Jokes in emotional parts aren't in bad taste and even expand the story. And the emotional moments don't feel forced to make a comedy feel deep, they all give us great character moments and expand the over all story. Even the funniest episode will have you tearing up at one point or another
8. The show is great to rewatch. I've lost count of how many times I've watched it, but there's so many new things I notice every time I do a rewatch. So many moments that change meanings with information gained from a later episode, a facial expression in the back, just everything that goes into the show is extraordinary and is something I can't recommend enough

Best father daughter duo ever. Even though Kitty is 132 years older
assorted ghosts scribbles
This is brilliant
I would love even just a a few shorts showing us the ghosts afterlives like in Speak As Ye Chose and En Francais where we see the ghosts haunting a person that would soon become a ghost (and it could mean more Annie)

It is so clear that Havers liked Cap back. I am seriously considering doing a too in depth analysis of his scenes with photographic evidence. Do you guys not see that yearning and hoping in Havers face during that scene. Omggggggggg.
This is a bit of a rambly (is that a word, I'm making it a word) post. I'm typing it out here, so it might be a bit messy, just something I was thinking about for a while that I find interesting so apologies if it becomes hard to follow in parts
A while back I was watching Squid Games clips on TikTok, and a lot of comments were calling out characters that are portrayed as good from a single ooc action that is clearly done out of desperation. This made me think about right Vs understandable, how can looking at character motivations and the situations they find themselves in, that affect their moral standings. I will be using Miraculous as a source for my points as I am currently watching it and the new season brings up this topic a lot, so spoiler warning for Miraculous season 6.
The overarching storyline for this season (and probably several more if I know Miraculous) is Marinette lying to Paris and Adrien about Monarchs identity. This has been portrayed to the audience as wrong. We know lying is wrong, and believing his father was a hero has effected Adrien in a much worse way than Marinette has anticipated, where it could be fair to say that knowing the truth would be better for Adrien in the long run. However bad this situation is, we know Marinette is doing it because she believes it to be in the best interest of Adrien, we must remember that she's 14 and was manipulated by Gabe (who I don't fully believe cared if Adrien knew or not, but that's for another post). Marinette is doing the wrong thing, and the writers want us to know it, but we can understand Marinette's pov in this regard.
Of course doing something wrong means that you will be called out for it, which is where Alya comes in. In Revelator she found out that Marinette was hiding the fact that Gabe was Monarch, and got understandably angry. Many people on TikTok took this as just more evidence that Alya is a bad friend (which she isn't), but isn't being a bad friend mean letting your friend keep doing wrong even if it will hurt them? Alya was right in principle, she knows that this isn't something to lie about and although she does not want to lie to Adrien (who is her friend outside of their connections with Marinette and Nino) but she still promises Marinette she will because she knows that Marinette isn't doing it due to malicious purposes. You can feel bad for Marinette in this situation, and feel as if Alya overreacted, but we need to hear what she's saying before we make snap judgements.
This concept is a double edged sword though, if we can excuse a characters behaviour based on why they do it, then nobody is actually a villain. I see this problem a lot, a backstory just tragic enough can make a whole fan base suddenly see a pure evil character as someone to sympathise with. Let's take Chloe from Miraculous, certainly not the most evil character but definitely a devicive one. We meet Chloe, a bully who soley picks on Marinette and makes her life a living hell, but as the series goes on we learn that she was abandoned by her mother as a child, is the victim of emotional abuse from said mother, and to make up for this her father is an enabler. Chloe was never shown love and what it looks like, so she never learned about how to treat others as she was able to use her father to threaten and/or buy her way out of consequences, until the very last moment that left her in a worse position than where she started, where if Andre had given her a stern talking to a few years back this whole mess would have not happened, he's either a power hungry rich man with no regards to the citizens of Paris it's his duty to serve, or a spineless woe is me my wife and daughter bully me I'm so sad character. With all being said does this justify Chloe's actions? No of course it doesn't she hurt people without regards for their mental and physical wellbeing, but her life and reasons for how she turned out made Chloe a more fleshed out and interesting character, antagonists with motivations around their actions make not just them more fleshed out and make the story as a whole more richer. It's unfortunate that Chloe's failed redemption arc storyline was so early in the shows run, I feel that if they wrote it today we could be seeing a very interesting character study that isn't just Chloe bad.
Motivations make characters and worlds more fuller and exciting, but we need to look at why a character made the choices they did, did something happen in their past to lead to this decision, what were the other options, were there other options? Looking at characters on a surface level of the action and it's effect on others can tell us a lot about the characters affect on others, but not a lot on the characters themselves.

Thomas has been pining after Alison for the entire series.
Trevor had a brief attraction to Sam.
The Captain, Fanny, and Mary all had an attraction to Mike for at least one episode, and he didn't even know it.
