OH MY GOD??? /POS
One reason you might not be very "good" about a trans loved one's pronouns or the language you use for them might stem from memorizing what they want, rather than actually changing how you view them.
For instance, my trans friend came out rather late compared to me. However, since internalizing that I wasn't really correct about who she is, because she's a woman and I didn't know that, it was instantaneous to refer to her by her name, to use language that accurately reflects her instead of what I thought she was.
When you actually internalize that a loved one is actually this way instead of what you thought, it makes it so much easier to truly and actually change your perspective on them.
In short, are you memorizing who they are, or are you actually learning who they are?
the tags on this post do not disappoint
thank fucking god I'm not 14 anymore
hey if you are 14-17 It does get better you are just in your caterpillar goop era
So many people have wetlands in their yards and don't even know! "This spot in my yard is always soggy and wet! How do I fix it?"
They will of course tell you to install a French drain. DO NOT DO IT! Plant Wetland plants and allow it to helpfully absorb puddles of heavy rain and give you the gift of beauty!
It makes me so sad how many wetlands were destroyed.
And the wetlands remove carbon from the atmosphere and store it as peat! We need more of them to mitigate climate change!
land developers: *Destroys the homes of salamanders, frogs, and rare plants to build a housing development on top of what once was a Wetland*
land developers: Why is this land so wet?!?!
If you have the wet soggy spot in your yard you should be filled with pride and contentedness, because you have the ability to grow a special class of cool plants (the Wetland Plants) that others of us can only dream of and sigh after.
@chickensgod
Here is a knowledge about salamanders—many of them return every year to the pool where they were hatched in order to lay their eggs!
In other words, possibly they "got there", because it is their ancestral homeland for many years!
Temporary pools that dry up seasonally are very important for amphibians. Without these ephemeral ponds, they would have to lay their eggs in larger water bodies, which have fish which will eat the young.
Amphibians are the most threatened category of animals. You are the Caretaker of their home! This responsibility is a great gift.
Ephemeral ponds are so freaking cool!!! It's crazy to think how an entire food chain is built on the premise of Fish vs No Fish.
People don't seem to realize how important salamanders and frogs are. Did you know that the greatest vertebrate biomass in the woods is made up of amphibians???
One of my favorite memories from college is driving up at night to a spot on the mountain which had 5 ephemeral ponds. Twice a year in the fall and the spring are the breeding times of the most common salamander species, on on a warm rainy night. My professor thought this would be the night so he drives us all up there to watch. You cannot even imagine the numbers.
These are spotted salamanders having a massive orgy! Three or four massive clumps of mating salamanders in five tiny ponds! But these guys weren't the only ones having a fun night...
It's hard to visualize the number of these wood frogs because they were more spread out, but there were hundreds. And you simply can't imagine the NOISE these guys made. It was deafening! We practically had to shout to hear each other, it was a cacophony of frog calls from both the wood frogs and the spring peepers who were mostly hiding on the leaf litter.
These are just a few egg masses laid by these frogs. Just imagine how much food for other animals they provide! Leeches, beetles, newts, they form the basis for a whole food chain in the pond!
Just simply incredible to witness.
Oh to witness this sacred experience...
dinosaurs are like the coolest thing possible for a child to learn about. it’s like hey i know you were just borned but giant monsters are real and they fought each other in wars for 100000000000 years and then blew up when the sky exploded.
milk-thistle is an example of a word where the tongue barely moves… basilica is an example of a word where the movement involved is like a seesaw. opium as a word is circular to say. to say a word like violence involves a bit of a forced pause in the mouth where the o connecting the syllables is. etymologists trace the word’s history, poets feel the word’s impact, singers listen to the word’s musicality, linguists tell the word to go this way and that way, and the word is gracious to all in return
