Cas sings Jack to sleep every night, and it’s always a little off key but he puts his heart into it. Most of the time it’s Hey Jude, because Dean once said that’s what Mary would sing him to sleep with, but on sad days he sings silly songs so that Jack goes to sleep smiling. It’s his favorite part of the day.

Sometimes it’s just Jack and Dean, who can actually sing, thank you very much, but who was deemed Not Good Enough the first time he’d tried to sing Hey Jude. He’d made it one verse in before Jack had frowned, complained that “that’s not how it goes!” and demanded Dean call Cas so he could sing it in his rough, warbly voice through speaker phone.

They do it that way every night, now. When Cas is gone, it’s through Dean’s tinny phone speaker, and both Dean and Jack listen intently. When Cas is home, Dean still leans in the doorway and listens in. It’s his favorite part of the day, too.
