Quelque part il existe un monde meilleur
no more sharing what your florence or your swift song is. i need the folks who've been on this website for 12+ years to get vulnerable and tag their nightwish song
wait. how long has it been since i solicited recs for the wolf playlist
recommend me songs about wolves
the wolves can be literal or metaphorical
ambiguous creatures can be okay as long as they are wolflike
having the word wolf, wolves, howl, etc. in the title is preferred, but not required
having lyrics about wolves is preferred, but not required if the title is explicitly about wolves
i do not care if it is in english, or recent, or even a good song. i just want wolf songs
HI, WANT SOME POWERMETAL?
Bolded are ones I particularly enjoy!
Sonata Arctica is the wolf power metal band. Most of their wolf songs are about actual wolves! There's probably more than what I just listed, but these are the wolfiest.
Sonata Arctica- Wolf and the Raven (Normal wolves)
Sonata Arctica - Wolves Die Young (Normal wolves)
Sonata Arctica- Blood (Lyrics feature wolves)
Sonata Arctica- Fullmoon (This one's werewolves)
Sonata Arctica- Message from the Sun (Lyrics feature wolves)
Sonata Arctica- The Last Amazing Grays (Lyrics feature wolves)
___________
Now for some more Power Metal About Wolves, there's Timeless Miracle. They tend to prefer the more lycanthropic side of things.
Curse of the Warewolf- Timeless Miracle (Werewolves)
Return of the Werewolf- Timeless Miracle (Werewolves)
________
There's Powerwolf, which, you guessed it, sings about..werewolves. Of the Catholic variety mostly.
Powerwolf- Werewolves of Armenia
Powerwolf- Wolves of War
Powerwolf- Night of the Werewolves
You get the gist. About half of PWs songs are about werewolves.
Where The Wild Wolves Have Gone
___
Moving back to more standard Power Metal,
Leverage has "Wolf and the Moon"! (Werewolf).
Mortron- Werewolf Hunt (Werewolf)
Mesmerize -- Werewolf (Werewolf)
Elvenking- Through Wolf's Eyes (Red riding hood?)
Dark Moor- Bane of Daninsky, The Werewolf (Werewolf)
Metalite- Afterlife (It's about werewolves, trust me)
__
Now departing slightly from Power Metal into other metal genres,
The Vision Bleak (Goth metal) - She Wolf (Normal wolves)
Moonspell (Goth metal)- Wolves from the Fog (Normal wolves)
Heidevolk- (Folk metal- Dutch band ) Wolf in my Heart (Normal Wolf. Kinda)
The HU (Folk metal- Mongolian band) - Wolf Totem
Agalloch (Atmospheric Black Metal) - Wolves of the Timberline
Ак Бүре- Tatar Folk-Instrumental album but the band name is Tatar for "White Wolf" apparently. Most of their album art is Anthro wolves. :)
Honorable Wolf-adjacent mention:
The Barghest O' Whitby by My Dying Bride for your Shuck Fix.
There's definitely more, metal loves to sing about wolves, but these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head. :)
Stratovarius – Fourth Dimension (1995)
i love funeral doom. great idea for a subgenre However i think after thw first album or two of it, they had already preddy much explored all there is to explore down there
Someday Lily- Seeming
Subgenre - Postgothic, Synthpop
Discovered this one via a Tobias Fangor playlist. It's really good.
“Blackwater Park” by Opeth
been a long ass time since I updated my power metal catalogue, fixed.
i'd like to propose a new metric of societal development: the Encouragement of Trans Women's Power Metal Concept Albums Metric (or ETWPMCAM). where the ideal society as measured by the metric spares no expense to ensure that the maximum possible number of trans women get the opportunity to write at least one power metal concept album of at least 40 minute duration, which may or may not end up with a couple tracks that are a bit mid but which, regardless and nevertheless, must charm with their shocking earnestness. and i mean the maximum possible number of trans women. i'm talkin public housing. i'm talkin arts grants, music libraries, orchestras at full readiness. i'm talkin free public canteens open at whatever godawful hours the creative processes stalk in. i'm talkin hrt free over the counter, dedicated DON'T DIE WONDERING propaganda campaigns.
if the trans women decide that the concept needs more albums to fully explore then that's good but that's a different metric. if multiple trans women contribute to the same power metal concept album then that's also good but if any of them don't help with the story or at least name one of the princesses then they're still on the hook for their own power metal concept album. thank you. we have a long way to go.
#anyone know some power metal albums already written by trans people 👀#looking to expand my power metal knowledge. man cannot live on sabaton alone
I'm not sure how much this one counts but The Poison Skies by Albion-Tharotia (at the time of album's release, now Ambersun-Tharotia). The Albion/Ambersun half of the collab, David Newton, is cis as far as I know but the Tharotia half, Celine Kalante Love (formerly / sort of currently? Kjorteo), is... I think transfem but is a plural system and I'm not sure what all the alters' pronouns are? Celine wrote the book the album is based on and did some of the song writing as well as backup vocals so I think it's in the spirit of this, also this album is so good I will seize any excuse to plug it.
that's a hit, folks! the global metric is now officially nonzero!
OH OH!
Project Roenwolfe from Alicia Cordusio (Formerly of the USPM band Judicator.) It's sort of Prog/Thrash/USPM, pretty fun!
Tragically she's the only trans power metal artist I know of, but if we hop over to the black metal side of things (I have noticed a large overlap in power metal fans and atmospheric black metal fans---I think it's about the drama, sincerity, and fantasy of it all) there's the ever talented Margaret Killjoy who I cannot recommend enough, as a metal artist, as a writer, and just as a person who's beliefs I respect.
She also has a podcast about prepping from a community focused anarchist perspective which is worth a listen if you're into that.
Finally there's Liturgy, which sort of transcendental black metal?
Haela-Hunt-Hendrix's stuff ain't exactly my style, but I do like Veins of God.
If anyone can recommend more bands to me, particularly European style PM please do. The cheesier the better. Minimum two mediocre power ballads preferred.
I was like, "This will either be amazing, or I'll turn it off in 30 seconds."
I'm posting the link here, so.
Phenomenal. I didn't think anyone could top Faith No More's cover from Nativity in Black, but damn. Everyone on that stage understood the assignment and nailed it like never before.
"War Pigs" is an anti-war protest song by English heavy metal band Black Sabbath, released in 1970. T-Pain covered the song on his 2023 album On Top of the Covers. Geezer Butler approved of the song and Ozzy Osbourne described it as "the best cover of 'War Pigs' ever".
I'm going to buy this whole album.
FUCKING HELL
Melodic Metal Thursday #30
Enjoy! 😊
