snapchat/instagram filters that are designed to make people “beautiful” but almost universally lighten skin, chisel noses, slim jawbones, etc.

the increasing popularity of hair extensions - which are far more common in “white” hair types (i.e. 1a to 2c) than “ethnic” hair types

racialised features such as women’s facial hair, monobrows, thick body hair etc. being unacceptable

white & light-skinned beauty instagrammers exploiting Black culture for their #brand whilst remaining incredibly racist & antiblack themselves

obviously I don’t think wearing makeup makes you a white supremacist but all of these are upholding the idea of whiteness as the ideal. modern instagram beauty culture goes hand in hand with racism and ignoring that is doing a huge disservice to brown & Black girls everywhere!

To add to this nightmare, I’ve just heard of a thing called ForceField where people get to monitor and block internet sites that you’re going on if they don’t approve.

It tells the user what sites/apps you’re going on, for how long you’re on them, and WHERE YOU ARE ON AN UPDATING MAP.

So you know if you’re in an abusive household and use sites like tumblr to escape and talk to friends, you could be cut off from that.

They say “it’s not spyware” but it sure sounds controlling and creepy to me.

I am 100% for minors having abortions without their parents’ permission because of people that think like you. You may have brought this child into the world, but they aren’t your property.

Subjecting a CHILD through a pregnancy as a punishment for having sex is not only stooping so low, but cruel. Do you know what actually helps? Sex ed. Forcing them to continue an unwanted pregnancy and rushing them into parenthood so you can shove it in their face is awful. This isn’t taking away their video games for talking back. This is forcing a child to have a child.

Teen pregnancy carries a high rate of illness and death among both parent and child. You’re willing to risk that for an “I told you so”?
