Artstress-induced Ramblings
This Friday brings you a bit of a rambling stress-thought, interspersed with some pictures.
Something that’s often discussed, especially for new artists, is having a consistent style - in other words a “brand identity”. While I understand the purpose of this, it does periodically give rise to some anxiety. For example:
I’ll have an idea of a piece, but I imagine it very much outside of what I would consider to be “my style”. Should I attempt it how I imagine it, regardless of the fact that it may not “fit” or be as polished as some of my other works? Do I attempt to create it in my usual style, even though that isn’t how I want it? Do I not attempt it at all, and let it remain simply an idea?
How does one juggle maintaining a consistent style while still leaving room for experimentation and growth? Factor in finding your audience, and what they respond to, it leads to a lot of stress, sometimes creative paralysis. Abandoned pieces. Ideas half-formed and promptly rejected.
I think I need more tea...
