a lot of people are reblogging this saying that most "lazy" people are actually just disabled or that the concept of laziness itself is a product of our society's obsession with productivity. this is all true, but it is not my point.

even if someone WAS just lazy and simply didn't want to do anything but lie on the couch and watch tv, they should still have these things. it's irrelevant whether some people aren't actually lazy because everyone, including hypothetical lazy people, should have their basic needs met.

if we have the resources to do it, there is no defense of letting people die because they don't want to work, and much less because they can't.

I don't want lazy people to have basic necessities because they "actually" deserve them because they ARE working or CAN'T work. I want lazy people to have basic necessities because they are people, and we shouldn't leave them to die when we have the resources not to.

while i’m on my soapbox and in my room with two box fans, it legitimately drives me insane how much cynicism there is regarding climate change. like yes even if we stopped all co2 emissions tommorow we’d still be heating up just due to how much is in our atmosphere, but even still it’s worth it to attempt to slow down emissions/stop them entirely when possible. we’re still able to prevent some of the worse long term consequences or at least make them less severe if countries are able to lower their emissions or achieve net zero. if you have a cancer in your arm, you might not be able to save your arm but it’s still worth it to go on chemotherapy so you can keep the rest of you alive rather than just throwing your hands up and going “well it’s too late now so i should just do nothing”

clean energy is only getting cheaper and more plentiful (especially with the dumbass war trump got america in) and the fact of the matter is fossil fuels cannot compete with renewables. china (which has the largest population in the world) quite notably is being incredibly environmentally conscious and trying to lower their emissions. midterms are coming up in america and obviously a large part of climate change is political. i’m under the firm belief that it is never worth it to give up even if shit is incredibly dire, and you should always do your best to make a change because at least you did something.
