I don't think I've ever seen a single piece of media (other than Fiddler on the Roof) where two Jewish characters end up together.

Not couples that are already together, but ones where we see their journey and see them fall for each other.

There must be something I'm forgetting. But, I certainly can't think of example in any modern media.

It's such a strange choice for a culture where we're not supposed to marry outside of it. And even more strange that it usually shown to be Jewish men with a goyish partner, even though it is more acceptable for women to marry outside the culture (that's because media hates Jewish women).

I keep thinking, and all I can think is did Ms. Maisel end up with a Jewish guy? I have no clue, since I'm not interested in seeing a show where a woman does Jewface.

There's Nobody Wants This, where the woman coverts, but I couldn't get past episode 3 in that show because of how offensive it was towards Jewish women.

There's got to be something... there's got to be.

I did some cursory research just now, and most articles I searched in/skimmed say that bagels have mixed origins. (It's worth noting that many of the articles have the same source, a 2008 book by Maria Balinska, titled The Bagel: The Surprising History of a Modest Bread. One article says Balinska is half Jewish, half Polish.) But those articles all at least mention potential Jewish origins. This NPR article does not.

Regarding bagels being brought to the US, some just say they were brought by Polish immigrants, some specify Polish Jewish immigrants. The NPR article doesn't mention bagels being brought to the US.

The Lender family, who NPR credits for the bagel's "leap from being a New York street food to standard brunch fare across the country" was Jewish. But they don't say that.

In my opinion, it's intentional. You can't research bagels without coming across mentions of Polish Jews. I think there was a conscious choice to omit that information. And as far as the Lenders, I could definitely see someone at NPR saying "it's not relevant", though I doubt they'd say the same if the Lenders had literally any other ethnicity.

Yeah, I get that the bagel isn't necessarily Jewish in origin but the article talks about different groups who contributed to lox and acting like Ashkenazi Jews didn't bring them over to America is weirdly antisemitic. They brought them to London too where the traditional topping is salt beef in east end beigel bakeries.

I think I'll see what Maria Balinska has to say in her book because I am curious about other breads that are boiled then baked.

The H-shaped building was designed by Heinz Fenchel (1906-1988), an Israeli Jewish architect and interior designer. It was built in 1950-1964.

The colorful side of the hotel (the western facade, which faces the beach, seen in the photo above) was created by Yaacov Agam in 1986. The rainbow mosaic was renewed as part of the year 2000 renovations of the hotel.

Yaacov Agam was an Israeli Jewish artist and sculptor known for abstract, "Kinetic art" (art in motion), and "optical art". Agam was born in Rishon LeZion in 1928, and passed away on June 21, 2026.

As is often the case with Agam's art, a single perspective is not enough... the artwork "changes" based on the position of the sun, and that of the viewer... as can be seen in this photo (by Chris Hoare): when people move around the colourful facade on the street, beach or promenade of Tel Aviv, they can discover it in new ways.

Propaganda is baked into our daily reality so seamlessly and thoroughly that it mostly feels like common sense.

It's why we defend brands like they're old friends.

It's why we discuss celebrities we've never met and who don't know we exist as if we know their hearts, defending or condemning them based on how talented their publicists are.

It's why we confuse relatability for trustworthiness

It's why we mistake emotional resonance for moral principles.

It's why we think our opinions are purely self-generated despite being nudged by countless carefully curated narratives which have more (and more subtle) ways of reaching us than at any time in human history.

It's why we treat people's lives, public policy, and geopolitical matters like team sports.

It's why we need to constantly interrogate our own assumptions, habitually subjecting them to fact checking, methodical scrutiny, and cynicism.

It's why we need media literacy and media ecology to be taught to kids of all ages.

It's why everyone should read Orwell, Huxley, Neil Postman, and Marshal McLuhan.

It's why we should all study logic, rhetoric, and ethics - so we can understand and apply moral reasoning based on principles.

The point isn't whether or not we're affected by propaganda, because we all are.

The point is whether or not we know we're affected...which ironically is the exact blind spot that makes people think they're immune.

The moment you assume you're above that influence? That's when it's working best.

That's why, Anon, the post you're responding to didn't say "you are not immune to propoganda."

it’s 5786 and we still have a major agunah crisis in our community and it’s getting to the point where if jewish women are not given a seat at the table — meaning, if we’re not given any autonomy or voice in discussions of matters that PARTICULARLY affect us, like gett refusal — we will see more and more jewish women refusing to participate in the system as a whole.
