@glanceme all interpretations of barba are valid! if you headcanon him to be bi (or straight) that’s totally fine. i just personally see him as gay coded. (and in my case, i’d write his attraction off to rita, or any woman, to be a case of whatever the gay male version of comphet is).

For Raul I vote for Hufflepuff too. He really looks like a loyal and kind man. For Barba… He’s a Slytherin totally. Smart, sassy, ambitious, can lie with no regrets to further his goals, cruel with enemies, he loves so much to humiliate them, he wants… he needs to feels he’s the best every time. No doubt, he’s a Slytherin. Really… every good lawyer should be.

And Gryffindors have huge ego too, they often want to be the best at everything. They’re so competitive.
Plus I feel that if he had truly been a Slytherin, he would have become a defense attorney. No boss, more money, more sharp reputation and he can choose his own cases. Being an ADA, sometimes his hands are tied up and Slytherins would never accept that. They’re the bosses.
(Obviously everything is a matter of perception.)

Barba simply choised to walk on the sunny way, and uses them for the good (almost everytime…). And it’s the same about all four Houses really. Every House’s member can use the qualities that makes him an Hufflepuff -or a Ravenclaw, or a Gryffindor, or even a Slytherin- for the good OR for the bad. Be a Slytherin doesn’t condamn you to be a bad person, and be a Gryffindor doesn’t assure you’ll be a good one. Never ever forget that The Hat was doubtful whether to put Harry in Slytherin or in Gryffindor House. Did it mean Harry could’ve become a bad man? Or just become a good Slytherin? I love this debate a lot, even if my heart is going crazy and basically tells me to bite everyone who thinks Rafael would belong in Slytherin - but I usually dislike Slytherins so it’s a selfish reason.
I know all Slytherins aren’t bad dudes and all other houses aren’t the good chaotic angels. I’m sorry if my point came out like that.
The description fits, but if the Sorting Hat sorted people only based on descriptions, it’d be wrong. Hermione would have gone in Ravenclaw, as McGonagall. And Neville would never have gone to Gryffindor in the first place. Remus would have belong in Hufflepuff, and I could go on. I feel like if it’s not really about your personality, but more about the reasons deep down of your personality. In my case, I’m hella megalomaniac, and in a way it’s a Slytherin’s characteristic, but it fits more for a Gryffindor because I have this hero complex. You know what I mean ?
I feel like for Barba is kinda the same thing. Yes he’s ambitious, but because he knows he’s smart as hell - and Ravenclaws are like that. It said they’re wise but they’re very condescending y’know, they have a huge opinion of themselves. He’s shrewd and cunning (what’s the difference though ? in French they’re kinda the same words), but as I said it’s for getting a form of justice in the end, not really for his own selfish goal. I think about when he disobeyed direct orders and it threatened his career. And Gryffindors can be machiavellian - the Marauders were, and even the Golden Trio with all of their fucked up plans.
Bravery isn’t the same thing as recklessness right. Harry is, but Ron for example is hella scared all the time. And bravery isn’t always about a physical fight. Barba has the guts to stand against people when he feels like it’s the right thing to do.
Of course his personality says he’d belong in Slytherin, but I feel like there’s something in his heart that isn’t Slytherin at all and stops him from belonging in this house.
(And Harry would have been a very good Slytherin.)
I understand why you don’t like Slytherins really.... Rowlin made a quite good job to depict them -almos all of them...-as unbearable, arrogant and unfaithful people. (despite I think Piton’s one of the best chara in there, and in some way one of the most loyal ones... He stay loyal to his love ‘till death literally, showing a sort of ‘Hufflepuff’ attitude). But you know... I like to see the light in the dark and the good potential in bad assumpionts, and I see in Rafael the best ‘in goods’ application of Slytherin’s qualities. Ambition without too much arrogance. Sassyness without contempt. Cunning and calculation without bad faith. And a really big, well hidden and shelter, heart. Let me make a little joke here, to show you how I see the ‘slytheriness’ in Barba, compared to other charachter’s attitudes. Olivia and Amanda (the Gryffindor ones, 100%. Both): “Rafa! We HAVE to condamn this vile bastard! He’s totally guilty, we know that! We looked him in the eyes! We don’t give a fuck about evidences, we’ll have to punish him no matter what!”. Carisi (the Hufflepuff one, 170%): “Tell me what I should do to frame this coward, and help you, and save the victim, and the whole world in the meantime, and I’ll do it!” Barba (the Slytherin): “Guys... i feel you. I really do! This worm should go in jail, and the victim needs justice but... I can’t win. So I’m sorry but I won’t pick up the case.” This is just a joke, like I said. It’s really schematic and simplistic. And not always true. In fact, sometimes Barba picked up a case he wasn’t sure to win because he felt it was the right thing to do. Like you said, no one fits 100% in just one House description, and everyone could be a mix of 2 or more. But still, I can’t help myself to see in Rafa the best Slytherin I’ve ever met. (He and Dworkin too. I love them both so much.) PS I’m really happy you’re french because italian and french haves a quite similar sentence structure. Probably you understand my ‘english’ much more than english people.

(that I actually hate very much…) She been obsessed during the last two years and I FINALLY started binge-watching SVU from season 14 on this january, then shortly fell in love with Barba, then with Carisi, then with them both, and so here I am. Just a little bad timing isn’t it? What inspires you to create? Actually, it’s a mix of love, anger, and sense of lack. I so much loved seasons 16-17 and so much hated 18-19. I want more and I can’t have, so I’m going to built it by myself. What is your favorite piece that you have created? Strictly about Barisi, I’m just getting started.
