I can’t believe that I am having to post this but I feel as though I should before someone else gets targeted.

Last night I found out that someone was impersonating my tumblr account on Twitter since June of this year. I have been on tumblr for eleven years and nothing like this has ever happened to me. I’ve been in multiple fandoms with their own debates and drama and yet this is a level of retribution that I just never expected.

I have contacted Twitter with two forms of ID and they have agreed that the fake account violates their ‘misleading and deceptive identities’ policy (receipts below). In other words, it ain’t me. They have contacted the account and asked for them to take action within 48 hours. In the meantime I just want to make it crystal clear that this Twitter account is not mine and is not associated with me in any way. They post the nastiest stuff they can find (including overt and almost cartoonish biphobia) in order to try and have it associated with me. Pretty funny when you consider that I have identified as bi since I was a teenager (all it takes is a quick search of my tumblr to confirm that).

I joined the Pedro Pascal fandom at some point last year after watching The Mandalorian in late 2020 and completely falling in love with it and with P (of course). And while I’ve made great friends who I continue to have amazing discussions with I have to say that this is the most toxic fandom that I have ever been a part of. To briefly summarise (cause otherwise this post is going to end up far too long) my ‘crime’ in all of this has been thinking that P is a member of the LGBTQ community. That’s it. You might not agree but I would hope that most people on here wouldn’t see that opinion as a some sort of insult towards the man in question. But to those who do, and who have made a sport of harassing me and others on here, it seems to be the absolute worst form of slander.

Now I’m not a perfect angel, I have debated people and challenged them. I am a queer, latine person myself and so these arguments effect me personally which means that I struggle to let them go. But I would have never been capable of coming up with this kind of malice…impersonating somebody who I dislike in order to drag their name through the mud. Perhaps it’s because it would be pointless, these people have always shown themselves up in how they talk about P and his queer fans, no need to make them look even worse! But I also just don’t have the energy required to think up this level of artifice. What a sad waste of time at the end of the day.

Anyways, that’s where I’ll leave this for now. Please be careful interacting with this homophobic wing of the fandom. I’m not saying that to silence anyone as I’m determined to not allow them to shut me up. What I am saying is it’s worth exercising caution and entering these kinds of discussions understanding how far they might take it, especially if you’re new to fandom or a young person/someone who might be in a vulnerable space. These people are not worth it and there are always those of us in the fandom who will support you. My inbox is always open.

Piping hot take: I don't give a shit if straight actors play queer characters as long as they do so with empathy and authenticity. When you say shit like "only queer actors should play queer characters" what you're actually saying is only OUT queer actors should play queer characters. If you're assuming an actor (or anyone else, for that matter) who hasn't declared their sexuality is straight, you are participating in heteronormativity.

this is not the important thing to me at all. the important thing to me is:

I CARE THAT OPENLY QUEER ACTORS GET WORK THEY WANT TO DO.

I CARE ABOUT BUILDING A WORLD WHERE ACTORS DON’T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT COMING OUT HAVING A NEGATIVE IMPACT ON THEIR CAREER.

yall, these are ACTORS. using their bodies to tell stories that aren’t their own is literally the whole gig.

the problem isn’t that only queer actors should play queer roles, the problem is that openly queer actors do not have the same opportunities as assumed-straight actors. the problem is that coming out has a real impact on actors’ careers, but if actors are in a queer piece of media they get backlash for not discussing their sexuality too.

and to be clear, this isn’t to say that i think queer art doesn’t need queer creatives. it’s much more important to me personally that there are openly queer creatives behind the scenes (esp writing, directing, etc), because those are the roles setting the tone of the production. those are the leadership roles. those are the decision-makers, and if queer stories are in their hands then i think it makes a real difference for them to be openly queer. i also think it seems at least somewhat less impactful to their careers to be openly queer.

tl;dr i’m so glad heated rivalry is being helmed by an openly gay man and could not care less about hudson williams’ or connor storrie’s sexualities. please leave those boys alone

personally I really liked frankenstein 2025 (the cinematography, the sets, the acting) and it’s a tiny bit odd that everyone is hung up on “book vs movie” discourse when it’s a story that’s been told hundreds of times. guillermo del toro is a creative visionary who has dedicated his life to the “craft”. if anything it would be strange if he didn’t have a unique perspective on the story to bring to the adaptation…….but that’s just me

Today I was listening to Jane Goodall being interviewed and she said something I knew about but had forgotten. The whole reason she went off to Africa to study chimps in the wild was because she was madly in love with Tarzan. Huge fangirl!

"He married the wrong Jane!" she laughed.

But she was so caught up in the romance of it all that she literally went off to live with chimps at a time when field studies of wild animals simply did not exist, and women were not taken very seriously as scientists. And basically invented a whole approach to studying wild animals that is standard today, changed everything we know about chimps, and became one of nature's biggest champions.

Because she loved real animals and one fictional man.
