Even small actions can hurt people we love. A member in my ward was baptised and active for 18 years, and eventually hit old age. Until then, he had taken care of a small flower bed on the street-facing side of our ward, which I'm told was very impressive and beautiful. When the leadership got concerned with his old age, and that he would not be able to continue caring for the bed, they had the plants moved and the bed covered up.
He became inactive after that, not from a lack of faith. One may say it was too little of an issue to justify not going to church. It was manageable enough, and he should've still went to sacrament anyway. But we don't know him enough to say that! He is an older man, and clearly this meant a lot to him. Maybe he's fragile, has other past experiences that lead to such a reaction, or maybe was treated way worse than what the stories say. He is active now, and has been for the last few months. I pray he can find peace with how he was treated. I also pray we can all be mindful of how even little actions affect our fellow siblings in Christ, and focus on listening to them.
It's not about problems that need to be solved, but about people that need to be loved.
I think that guy is pretty justified if someone did that to my garden I'd become the joker
