hesitant alien day was yesterday but here is my tale when i was 14 i saw gerard at the vic in chicago and i was determined to wait outside and be at the barrier, which i had never done before and only really knew how to do in theory, and which was made more complicated by the fact that my parents were not super amped at the idea of me sitting on the sidewalk for ~9 hours, so i lied and told them i was meeting an older friend who’d wait with me and that we were meeting up at the starbucks around the corner and then at 8am day of when my dad dropped me at the starbucks and drove away i walked to the venue by myself and set up camp in the alley. i think i was like 10th in line? and i waited outside all day (i made friends with some of the people around me who were very nice lol) and i did get barrier

and like after the first song they said something like “when i was a kid i used to dream about—not playing in a rock band really but just getting the fuck out of the town i grew up in, i just wanted to leave” and i BURST into tears instantly and wept steadily thru the entire rest of the show

and every time they came near the edge of the stage everyone would hold out the little offerings we’d brought—id gone on the necco candy website and realized u could custom order conversation hearts, so i had a little bag of candy hearts with ha lyrics (‘your type of metal’ etc) and during one song they came over nearer to stage right where i was holding it out and they leaned out and very gently took it out of my hand and time stopped and my heart hard rebooted etc etc and then i kind of forgot about the candy until a few weeks later i was scrolling through instagram and my brain completely shut down upon seeing this

and i cried again :) anyway that is my hesitant alien story thanks
