i could joke about people missing the subtext in previous episodes, but i appreciate the fans who went from not believing in transfem jax to immediately incorporating it into their fanart/AUs/whatever. no arguments, no bullshit, just
zombie Till speculative design for funsies
This was shared as a "bad" joke but I was so charmed by it I've been thinking about it for days.
Moose at the next table: No they don't. I've been waiting here for an hour.
the amazing digital circus is a show about empathy and what it does to you if you go too long without a support system so the show starts with sympathizing with Pomni (the most empathetic person, easy), ep2 is empathizing with an NPC in a game (no flaws), ep3 is empathizing with a man who has dementia, ep4 is empathizing with someone who annoys you when they're unmasking, ep5 is asking you to empathize with a rich white woman and so on....
so it all works up to the empathy boss - a bush era edgelord millenial trans girl who thinks she's Max from Sam & Max and is inherently unworthy of love
and some people failed the empathy test
Exactly the show is not asking you to forgive her the show is asking to empathize with her those are different things
Finding out Hans Zimmer is a transphobe genuinely had me falling to my knees
Thank you blastybaku for explaining this!/gen
If you've ever heard a movie score and thought "holy shit, this is incredible", there's like, a 50% chance it was Hans Zimmer who composed it.
This is a pretty major letdown, ngl.
Anyways, fuck transphobes, which includes Hans Zimmer, apparently.
Anyway shoutout to John Williams, amazing composer and probably the one who made the other 50% of "holy shit amazing" soundtracks (Jurassic Park, Star Wars, Superman, and incidentally the original Harry Potter theme and score) who famously worked closely with the first openly transgender woman to be nominated for an Academy Award, Angela Morley. He respected her, and so far as I can see, has never made transphobic remarks.
yes, grigori's insistence that irina's death was an accident was probably mostly about saving face, but it also meant that his religious wife could be buried in consecrated ground
AU where Ilya's father dies before Irina can commit suicide, so she ends up not doing it and Ilya grows up with his mother instead of his father. He still goes into hockey and professional but less because he needs to escape Russia and more because he really really likes it and wants to have fun with it (and there's a kid in Canada who can keep up with him.....)
(also his brother never becomes an asshole and addicted bc he didn't need to deal with their father + depression + their mom's death and his feelings about it)
Anyway ofc Ilya still pursues Shane with all he has and ofc Shane kind of fold for him (in every ways ehehehheheh i'm hilarious)
But also I have this scene in mind where Yuna and Irina talk during the draft after party and Yuna is internally grinding her teeth bc this woman's son took her baby's spot and victory but she is still being Polite so she's making small talk and.
Yuna: And what about your husband? He must be proud of your son too, right?
Irina, unfazed: Oh, he died a few years ago.
Yuna, assuming Ilya's parents were about the same age: Oh, I'm sorry! Was it an accident, sickness?
Irina, very obviously still in her thirties-not-yet-forty: Oh, no. Old age :)
Yuna, Who Knows How To Do Math: Ah. I see.
Anyway they became friends and it becomes a meme in the hockey fandom that rivals Ilya Rozanov and Shane Hollander are forced to interact bc their moms are besties.
I imagine Jax can't take off her overalls for a while, so she'd have to get creative
the thing is that for all its supposed faults, i would take this brand of 90s utopian globalism over whatever the fuck we’ve been doing for the last 10 years in a heartbeat
this yeonjun look!

people with siblings: how do you feel about them?
So, we start having the first Greek no-spoiler reviews about the Odyssey that I believe to be quite apt and trustworthy, perhaps more reliable than the lowkey paid reviews from Hollywood-affiliated media.
Actor and comedian Zissis Roumbos said that the movie is very good and entertaining especially in its technical aspects and has Nolan’s trademark professionalism. It is very cinematic. He says Nolan gives his own perspective / interpretation in the end of the story. He also says that it is a movie not made for the Greeks or the aficionados of the Greek classics. He describes the lack of Greek contribution or Greek element in the movie as “deafening”. He flat out says that this movie is not addressed at all to the nation that inspired it. Roumbos rates it as an 8/10, when addressed to generic audiences that are neither aware nor interested in the Greek classic or the Greek civilisation.
A movie critic that I think goes by the name John Duree in social media who had been reasonably optimistic and mildly supportive towards Nolan’s choices the previous time said that the movie is indeed of an epic scale and agrees that it has very impressive technical and visual elements. He says however that he was disappointed in several scenes of the movie, hinting that Nolan might have taken plenty liberties with the plot for the worse. He said that while it’s a technically very good and enjoyable movie with a lot of spectacle, it is by no means Nolan’s best movie.
So it seems the whole promotion line of “magnum opus” and “better than LOTR” will be falling apart. Based on these two reviews that I find quite level-headed, it seems we’re getting what I expected; a very cinematic movie with a lot of epic spectacle that will be enjoyed by those who want a fun blockbuster and know nothing or don’t truly care about the Odyssey, but those who are interested in the epic, in ancient cultures or wish for cultural accuracy and sensitivity will be more or less disappointed.
After playing in LA, Rose takes the Cens out to party. The rookies are besides themselves, Wyatt geeks out so hard that he gets to meet more actors who play superheroes, Luca gets hit on by three different models and takes at least one of them up on it, and Ilya let's out his inner club rat and is just enjoying being in a good club. Shane goes along to spend time with Rose and make sure no one pukes in front of a camera again (looking at you, Holmberg!). Ilya, Shane and Rose end up leaving together. They’re all a little tipsy—the club had good Russian vodka, so Ilya had a lot and Rose joined him to “bond” and Shane indulged in a few beers which he still doesn’t do a lot during the season even though he’s more relaxed about his diet now, so they’re all not entirely sober. Outside of the club, they’re a little loud which draws enough attention that people recognize them—well, let’s be real, they mostly recognize Rose although someone says “isn’t that the gay baseball player from that Calvin Klein ad?” when they see Shane—and several people start filming. Which is of course when Rose’s heel breaks and she lands ass over teakettle on the sidewalk.
Shane and Ilya are immediately concerned and Rose tries to wave them off, “my heel just broke, guys,” and Shane says, “you broke your foot?” and Rose laughs and says “no, my heel” and waves her broken shoe around, the red sole glinting in the light. “Why are you wearing fucking low quality shoes?” Shane asks, honestly confused, and Rose gasps, “Shane, they’re Louboutins!” And Shane very seriously says, “well, then Louboutins are fucking bad quality,” which has Ilya cackling because he definitely knows Louboutins, probably even owns a pair, and knows that they’re not low quality at all. But now there’s a video out there of Shane Hollander calling Louboutins low quality and that’s going to be a fun time on the internet. Then Shane helps Rose up and she wrinkles her nose and says, “ugh I hate walking barefoot in downtown LA,” and Ilya says, “don’t be ridiculous, we carry you,” and Rose is all, “oh piggy back ride,” and Shane says, scandalized, “you’re wearing like a miniskirt, everyone will see your ass if you do that,” and scoops her up bridal style. And then he carries her down two blocks to the sushi restaurant they chose for a late night snack and the video of that goes even more viral than Shane’s Louboutin critique.
i love shane because in some ways he's just so Jock and so Boy like he has zero houseplants (except for maybe a cactus or two) because he doesn't care and he forgets to water them and his house would look like shit without a designer because all his walls would be metros blue and he has to hire someone to tell him what kind of clothes to wear and his favourite thing is Sports but i just know he also doesn't play about his microfiber cleaning cloths and he stores leftovers in glass containers instead of plastic containers because microplastic and you have to use the back entrance on rainy days because he doesn't want mud on his nice floors
