@gofreta
We are the first and the last generation that grew up without and with Internet.
Hahaha... let me play minecraft in peace
Edgy kid stuff. š
Yes, most of us are not in fact healed. What are you going to do about it? You offering free therapy?
The problem with major cyberpunk franchises is that by their very nature a cyberpunk property backed by a major corporation is tainted by their involvement. No matter how anti-capitalist it may seem, at some point a board room of stuffy rich dudes with more money than youāll ever make in your life approved the thingās messaging. There were focus groups, and an S&P department involved. You canāt trust anti-capitalism produced by capitalists, because itās insincere. Itās not real punk. Itās been subsumed. Like a high-end fashion store selling torn pants.
Exhausting!
ever-relevant C&H
The original Cyberpunk TTRPG (which was the great great grandfather of Cyberpunk 2077) was planned to have the following mechanic: Each cybernetic implant you install in yourself belongs to an corporation. And once you had too many implants, you become corpo property and your Charakter becomes a NPC. The publisher was not happy with that, as it was deemed āanti capitalisticā. So they changed the mechanic that you instead go insane once you install to many cyberimplants.
So yeah, every mayor Cyberpunk game has to be pro capitalistic, or else it is not beeing backed by capitalists. And therefore, no mayer Cyberpunk game can be truely punk.
Wait. Thatās where the idea of cyber-psychosis comes from?
Iām so proud. The kids are finally growing up. š
Took you a while, you all.
Thereās a thin line between reminding someone about everything they can be and reminding someone about everything theyāre not.
Being toxic for the sake of āhelping people improveā is an easy trap to fall into. Tough love only gets people so far. After that they will leave you, for good reason.
Well, I start pondering why it took me more than 20 years to even realize it was happening. Now I'm swinging to the other extreme: not giving a damn if somebody gets run over in front of me. And I have a sneaking suspicion I'll die that way.
being more mature comes with the realization that it will never get better
Yikes, Tumblr. Can I get recommended more erotic photos and various forms of art, and not more existential dread?
men should get on their knees and bury their face in between your thighs like they would die if they donāt taste you more often but thatās just me
If you don't have such a boyfriend then drop him immediately. Life is too short to skip on pleasures.
Ouch. I come to Tumblr for erotic pictures and several favorite types of art, not to be personally attacked and reminded of how difficult life is for me lately.
Morning yall. Laying here about to get up to get ready for work but was feeling cute n thought Iād share. You know what tuesdays are good for š enjoy! Pm me to tell me how youād help get me ready for the dayš¤
Thanks for following back. You're quite impressive for a 49-year old. Wish all women maintained themselves as well as you do. You should be proud.
cyberpunk at its core is about speculative dystopia. fantastical developments that should benefit society but exist in a system fundamentally designed to beat people down. alluring transhumanism imprisoned by money, class, and other axes of oppression. it's about the real world issue of new and exciting technology corrupted by the world that produces it.
armored core stands out against the common war stories in mecha. it's about gig workers risking their lives thanklessly to kill poor people just to survive and get ahead. even while the entire system around them crumbles
dorohedoro is a story about a stratified society where incredible magic that could be shared to benefit others is used in petty arguments and 'experiments' on those treated as subhuman. it's about how hierarchy creates struggle for everyone, but the blood and tears always runs down to the bottom.
i do love the basic cyberpunk aesthetic. the edgerunners kind, the blade runner kind, like ghost in the shell and gunnm. sci-fi, cybernetics, robots and cities are dear to me. but when you put on the skin of a dystopian genre without knowing what the bones look like, you make something that isn't just bad. it's insulting.
i live here. i know how it goes. the robot dogs are cops and my smartphone was obsolete when i bought it. the air quality is garbage and my health is a mess because my government treats corporations more like people than me, even though we can magically cure or prevent almost any ailment. there are more vacant houses than homeless people. it's theft to take food out of the garbage.
cyberpunk is a city full of vacant buildings and streets full of poor people. it's a raspberry pi duct taped to a cybernetic arm to intercept advertisements before they reach your brain. it's a gig economy that forces you to work overtime just to get paid enough to eat. isn't it frustrating? isn't it frustrating that we have to live like this? flying cars, body augments, virtual reality, and we still live like this.
We need more adult animation like Arcane and Edgerunners.
Specifically, we need to stop treating adult animation as only being about wacky comedy or crass humor. There's so many more genres that could be explored but aren't because animation is still seen as immature, so the only thing that warrants 'adult animation' is comedy.
We need more animations that tell a mature, serious story, with complex characters. We need animation that deals with darker subject matter more suited toward adults.
You just need to browse 'adult animation' on wikipedia to see it's about 90% comedy/sitcom and 5% superheros.
I wish animation was taken more seriously than it is currently.
Well, Edgerunners was not at all mature -- the couple at least were childishly withholding information from each other and that to me falls into the 13 year olds first "relationship" category -- but the general point holds and I support it: we need more mature animated movies and series.
@staff Most of the content in the "For You" tab is from accounts I already follow.
If you want to get money, improve your product. I ain't paying for such a half-assed job.
The Internet as envisioned has already been completely destroyed. What we have left isn't open, isn't free, and isn't beneficial. It's a controlled shopping environment, and one soon to be a censored political tool (even more so than it has already become) - the tech side of this fight who were supposed to protect it SOLD IT OUT FOR PERSONAL GAIN. The Governments are now roasting them anyway - the night of the cyber knives is nigh. Corporations have no friends, Governments have no friends. It's a complete failure in every way. What happens next?
Next we burn it all to the ground, and hopefully a better global, information distribution & communications system, rises up from the ashes.
I'm not an accelerationist. I know how that sounded. It came out poorly.
This.
Of course internet is not what it intended to be anymore, but that's natural and I think that was expected. We are witnessing the birth of global communication tool. Everything is becoming global, sports, languages, culture, fashion... We are on the way to the next huge phase - that we become interplanetary.
Internet was already quite global back in 2001, so that's not it and yes while the commercialization was fully expected it also went too far and started mutating into censorship. The problem is that the internet -- and technology as a whole -- has been and still is being co-opted ONLY for commercial gain and propaganda purposes. Nothing that actually helps humanity gets proper funding and energy anymore, with very few prominent exceptions (like The Internet Archive and Wikipedia).
Stuff is also regularly disappearing. Internet became very ephemeral, at least the mainstream places did.
None of this is sustainable. This is not an ecosystem, it's just a long chain of localized silos. It cannot last for very long either.
That was not the idea of the internet. As a techie guy I'm looking forward to having more free time and energy and trying to do something about it -- assuming I'll ever have the time and energy anyway which is sadly unlikely.
Technology itself has never been better. We have all the tools to make an amazing internet... but everyone is either busy and tired (like myself) or too distracted and having no clue (like a lot of younger people).
@staff It has been a while now, at least a week, that my feed on iPhone and iPad has a hard stop. Sometimes it only loads 2 posts and one ad and you can't scroll further down. We're talking latest iOS 17. No problems on Firefox desktop. What gives? Is it a known issue? Is there anything I can do?
That's what not doing cardio leads to!
Happened several times this year, lesson still not learned.
