I’d imagine he’d be VERY vocal(lol) how do you think it’d if she got to keep her memories. How about if she didn’t remember? (Sorry this was longer than I meant it to be😅) -k

I can imagine Revali calling out to her as she wakes up, his voice gentle and encouraging as he knows she had been thru so much. He knew she was Hyrule's last hope, and he would do the best he could for her and help as much as possible along the way...

Until she starts doing dumb shit.

River would absolutely take after Link with the same amount of chaos. Lighting shit on fire, being murdered by bees, dropping rocks on the Korok's heads. Revali would have an aneurism watching her running around like a feral child.

Of course he would speak up to remind her that shes using her bow wrong. How she is obviously missing the answers to painfully easy puzzles. That sort of thing.

I think it would be super awkward for her if she didn't remember who he was, but she wouldn't tell HIM that. She'd just let it happen, enjoying his sexy voice as he made horrible bird puns and told her to pick up the pace and kill Ganon already.

Revali and Teba relationship in Age of Calamity. TW: rant & analysis

(and possibly bad English, sorry guys)

It’s been more than a week since Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity was announced.

I’ve been complaining a lot about the plot choices, the clichés, the character development (*cough* KOHGA SUDDENDLY JOINING THE GOOD ONES despite all the 10k years hating the Royal family and worshipping Ganon but heh they wanted do make him a playable character, so I think that’s it), the fact that Link is even more stoic and unemotional than ever (in BotW he had his own reasons to be like that), the villain with no story, Terrako being OP and unnecessary, and REVALI.

As you all know Revali’s not quite the typical nice and kind person you would expect (as he’s a Champions and all the others are friendly and caring towards Link and the princess). But again, if you like and know this character enough you’ll understand how things really were in BotW and how everything worked perfectly. (I’m not talking about the different translation from the Japanese to the English one, I’ve made another post about it!)

When I first encountered Revali I never thought he was a jerk. Instead, I found him hilarious and very charming. His attitude and cockiness towards Link was funny and refreshing. At last one character that simply accepted Link. But I can understand that some people don’t like the surface of his character. If BotW had left us with only what we’ve seen in BotW, that would’ve been okay. But instead they gave us a DLC (The Champion’s Ballad) in which we were able to see few but still new aspects from the champions.

We got to learn Daruk’s not 100 % brave as he wanted to seem, he’s really afraid of dogs. We got to learn Mipha is not only a little Zora who’s in love with Link, but a caring pricess and sister. We got to learn Urbosa is not 100 % severe and tough, she deeply cares for Zelda and everyone’s safety. She’s got that sass which I love personally.

And then, we got to learn something that honestly I would’ve never expected: Revali being vulnerable. And I’m not just talking about the Champions’ recruitment memory, I’m also talking about all you got to learn by his diary, the hidden dialogues. I mean, they are there. If BotW developers would’ve just wanted Revali to be a jerk, they wouldn’t have added these details.

We got to learn that he DEEPLY cares and fears for his people. He wanted to be the best so that his people would recognize and remember him. He opened the Flight Range because he wanted to nurture the next gen of warriors and then trained also children. 

There’s no one left who would even know me. But even so, it will always be my home.

It almost brought me into tears because I didn’t expect him to care so much about it. If he was so sure to be the best then he would’ve just said something like “I’m sure everyone’s still remembering me, I am the greatest afterall”.

So when I found out the Champions’ descendants were also present in Age of Calamity I couldn’t wait to see how Teba and Revali would’ve acted together.

And, to my biggest disappointment, the writers messed it up. They even messed THIS up. I had begrudgingly accepted his unjustified hate towards Link because… it’s Link? I had begrudgingly accepted that he was rude to Daruk.

At least I thought ‘well, maybe with Teba they will make him act better. They will make him nicer’. And I mean, they did. Revali’s nice with Teba but… idk all I got to learn was that Teba respects Revali (more of a simplord-kind of respect) and Revali absorbs the compliments and just… goes ‘heh. Okay’. 

Then when Link enters Medoh to help them, Revali acted in his ‘well I didn’t need your help’ way. What left me shocked is how Teba reacted.

‘I didn’t know the Champion would be so…’ (Which many think he was about to say short but he was indeed talking about his personality. In Italian he says something like ‘I would’ve not expected it (this personality trait) from the Champion’

This left me puzzled. Why would Teba care about how Revali treated Link? And apart from that, he basically said ‘thank you’ to Link. So why would Teba notice this? Just to make the player feel more hate towards Revali? As if ‘eheh now finally Teba realized his childhood hero is a jerk how does it feel?? never meet your heroes!!!’

but then, in Medoh, this happens:

Okay I admit: I’m impressed by this translation because in the Italian one he only says: ‘Hm, good to know. At least it was good for something. But no one will match my skill even in 100 years’.

Which I’ve found… weird??? I mean the line isn’t dubbed so I suppose it was said in a sarcastic tone, but… still weird? Idk I would’ve expected something else since he cared so much about his people using his Flight Range. He should be proud but… he talks about his skill??? Right now??? What the heck?

Heh… But again… writing.

Then this also happens:

And what made me furious is that we got NO ANSWER by Revali! C’mon! That was all he cared about, that people will recognize him. And you let Teba saying something like that without a single reaction from Revali?! Are you freaking kidding me? He basically said ‘When I come home I’ll tell everybody about you’. MAN WHAT IS WRONG WITH–

Icing on the cake:

Okay I admit, I almost cried. But I stopped when I heard that stupid and boring answer from Revali after what Teba had said.

“Hm.”

WHAT THE F-???????? WHAT THE F IS ‘HM’. I MEAN NOT ONLY YOU’VE MET A RITO FROM THE FUTURE WHO LOVES YOU, WHO HELPED YOU AND… YOU ONLY SAY THAT? Are you kidding me? Plus I hate we never got to see his face. Is he smiling to Teba? Is he even grateful? Is that ‘hm’ a nod? WHAT THE HELL. I HATE YOU KOEI TECMO

Oh, yeah. I forgot. I’m playing Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity. Yeah. Nice gameplay and everything but no. I just pretend all of that never happened.

Was randomly inspired to write a little angst Drabble about one of the characters of one of my fave revalixreader writers, @river675 Check them out if you get the chance!

Putting this under the cut since there’s technically some Age of Calamity spoilers :D

He refused to fall here.

A fierce gale roars to life aboard Vah Medoh, launching the Rito Champion into the air once more. Multiple shots ring in the air and rays of light follow close behind the Rito, singing the tips of his feathers as he does his best to evade them. He barely has enough time to draw his bow before another shot knocks it out of his grip. Now without a weapon for defense, all he can do is avoid the oncoming attacks below as he tries to come up with a counterattack.

Unfortunately, the Windblight is quick to follow up it’s attack, and this time one of the lasers hit it’s target. A sharp pain shoots through his chest plate, and Revali knows that he barely prevented the hit from becoming fatal.

He tries to force down the panic bubbling in his chest. It’s just a scratch. Diving down once more, he looks for any possible openings in the Blights defenses.

He’s a fool for not predicting something like this happening beforehand. For the Calamity to not only be able to take him by surprise, but also having the gall to do this on his own turf made things all the more personal for him. While rushing to board Vah Medoh, he had not come prepared for an ambush. Now here he was, being cornered while on his own ship. But he wouldn’t let himself fall yet.

He still had to make the damned Calamity and it’s prophet pay for what they did.

-----Before Calamity struck-----

The fucking wizard knew about your relationship with him.

Why else would he target you?

They made a hoard attack the village as a distraction. Their numbers were smaller compared to recent incidents, it was almost too easy.

He should have known better.

As soon as the village was secured, he shot off to your cabin in the mountains and prayed to the Goddess above that you were all right.

He arrived in time to see you get shot by a barrage of arrows, a crude shadow of him flying a few feet above you.

The Hollow didn’t even get the chance to react. In the blink of an eye, it was launched against an icy pillar before it began to rain explosions around its body. When the smoke cleared, all that was left of it was a few wisps of malice, before it was blown away in the wind. Revali immediately dropped his bow and rushed to your side, but you were already gone. He sat there cradling your body to chest for Hylia knows how long.

He threw himself into training for weeks afterwards, barely sparing a moment for food or rest in between. If not for Quill’s interference, he would’ve collapsed from exhaustion long ago. This only made him push himself harder, the image of his hollow watching as you took your final breath constantly haunting him. That thing was one of the damned wizards dark creations, and he would make sure the bastard paid a hundred times over for what he’d done.

----- Present time -----

He hears the creature charge its cannon for another blast. A part of him knows he won’t survive a second hit from the thing, but he still does his best to fight back, regardless. Rito village was his home, and he would go down protecting it until the very end.

It was all he had left now.

He hears the chirp signaling it about to fire, and he turns his final thoughts to you as he prepares for the incoming blast.

A clang of metal rings in the air and a beam of white-hot light shoots by just a few feet away from him. From below, someone could be heard roaring angrily like a rabid beast, and Revali almost falls out of the air in shock.

“GET THE FUCK AWAY FROM HIM!!”

He knows that voice…

It wasn’t possible. Yet when he looks down, a familiar Hylian woman could be seen launching themselves on top of the Windblight. Using their limbs, they wrap their body tightly around the blight from behind like a deadly monkey, and proceed to stab it in the eye over and over with a ferocity that would terrify the Calamity itself. All Revali can do is stare dumbfounded at the scene before him, and a name he hasn’t uttered in weeks falls from his beak.

“...River?”

(Prompt: What if River from the Age of Calamity died some time prior and when Revali’s fighting Windblight Ganon, it’s River from the Botw timeline to come save his ass, not long  long after the Calamity struck in her world. (Whether Teba still joins or not is up to you)

Ok so slightly off topic, but my personal headcanon is that Teba basically adopts all the new gen Champions. Yunobo and Riju are little sweet beans so there was no question there. Sure, Sidon’s technically older than him, he’s also a pure fish boi in need of hugs. Don’t even get me started on Zelda after she’s rescued. Once they learn about the crappy treatment from King Rhoam? Boom, new sibling for Tulin.

And Teba and Saki will be damned before they let a feral child like Link go without supervision

“I’m an adult Teba, I know what I’m doing.”

Immediately brings you inside and uses her feathers to warm you up

By the time Teba’s back from the Flight Range, you’re sitting in a high chair being hand-fed mushed carrots.

Teba’s silently freaking out

Suggestions of giving you to a Hylian family will be quickly shut down

“Saki, it’s cold as shit out there (Language Teba!), and look at the lack of feathers, their practically naked! Nope, the tyke’s our responsibility.”

Yeah, anyone that wants to take tiny baby away will have to fight Papa bird first

So begins your new life with the Rito. Congrats.

Welcome to the nest kid.

Teba nicknames you his little Chickadee (sometimes Chicky for short)

However, anyone else that tries calling you that is at risk of getting their tail plucked

The other Rito might be a bit surprised at first, but they soon accept the new addition to the village

(Teba’s a warrior, but he’s also famous for having big dad energy)

You once get lost in the woods and was found by Kass, who offered to bring you home

When you tell him you live in Rito village, he dooesn’t even hesitate

“Let me guess; Teba’s kid, right?”

So when Tulin’s born, there’s some worry that you’d get jealous and possessive over your parents attention

Surprisingly, it’s the opposite

No, ‘cause Birb Dad stinks of Moblin guts.

It admittedly sucks a little less once a certain Hylian arrives to help

(Not gonna lie, the starry look on your face may have played a part on Tebas decision to adopted Link)
