Austrian rider banned after terrible show jumping ride
The Austrian show jumping rider, Bernhard Maier has provoked a lot of controversie on social media after a channel published his not so flattering show jumping ride during the CSI1* in Wiener Neustadt, Germany.
As a result the Austrian Federation (OEPS) has taken immediate action. In an official release the federation has stated the actions of their national rider are ‘a disgrace for the sport.”
As a result the federation has banned the rider. The final decision still has to be confirmed by other federations and national organisatons. “We’re putting all efforts on the job to call a halt to this type of riding.”

Sadly this type of riding is not uncommon… it just so happens to be that the video got so much attention that they had to do something about it
My first question was “…is that rider doing rising canter?”
Then I was like, holy shit, that rider can’t even ride paces but that horse is still able to occassionally jump big jumps clear? That horse deserves a solo medal.
Someone put a lot of great breeding and training into this horse, and clearly the rider was hoping money could buy talent as well. At least they patted the horse, but why couldn’t they have realised how much of a battle they were making it for their horse to succeed before they bought their way into a competition on it?
The Austrian federation’s definitive decision is out, they have banned him for 5 years from any Austrian or international competition (x)
In parallel, there are also criminal charges brought against him for various cases of animal cruelty
If you crash thru a fence, just get off! It’s over at that point. This guy crashes thru the first fence the proceeded to crash thru the REST OF THE COURSE
