People find it easy to hate Kevin Day because he’s an imperfect victim. No he’s not whimpering and kind. No he didn’t prioritise someone else’s survival over his own. No he didn’t rebel and chose to adapt to survive. He isn’t any less worthy of empathy for being “a coward” or for any of the above things.

One thing I love about Nora’s writing is that she captures every character’s personality in their perspective. Even in his head, you don’t see Jeremy being rude to people very much, while on the other hand Jean and Neil rosy the living shit out of everyone in their minds. A lot of the time in books you can tell which characters the author likes the most based on how other perspectives view them, but with Nora, you could never tell that Andrew was her favourite character when reading Jean’s perspective. That’s why I’m so excited for Kevin’s books, to see how he truly views the other characters.

Jeremy Knox is so special to me. Don't get me wrong, I love Jean with all my heart, and so Neil and Andrew and Kevin, but Jeremy is special to me. Maybe it's because his story resonates so deeply with my own; that his struggles hit a bit closer to home than the others'. He's one of those characters that has found a little place in my heart and won't leave until it stops beating.

I can't thank Nora enough for creating my sunshine boy. I love him so much.
