It was a reflex, as soon as he’d felt that twinge in his gut that criticized him and told him he was WRONG.  He didn’t mean Lucien   —   Lucien wasn’t wrong.  Just what he was doing, what they were doing.

        His lips were still burning with shame.  He reached out to take Lucien’s wrist, preventing him from going.   It doesn’t stay there for long, though, as his face turns red and he slowly pulls his hand away to sign.     ❝I didn’t mean to say that.   I mean   —   I know we’re not supposed to.   I know.      Don’t go.❞

              in the simplest possible terms,  lucien’s mind was a cacophony of:   oh jesus fucking christ   &   oh what in the hell.     he lets himself be stopped,  but startles away from ernst’s touch as if he’d BURNED him.     and fuck,  he can’t keep it from repeating over and over in his mind,  fuck fuck FUCK.    if he only hadn’t pulled away,   if he only hadn’t said that,  lu wouldn’t have given himself the chance to panic.   yet here he is now,      panicking.              “ whatever you think this is       ”   he begins,  finding himself trailing off,  maintaining the space between them.   “ whatever   you.....       listen.    i know         i know you’re...  QUEER.          whatever you think this is,  it’s not.   alright? ”

         A LAUGH came out with a  p u f f   o f   s m o k e  as the brown haired boy was FORCED to remove the  t a r   t u b e  from between his lips. As smoke tried to ESCAPE it got caught in his throat and Philip was now  h u n c h e d   o v e r  coughing, but still smiling. Once the fit was over he MANAGED a few words.    ‘ What a load of  f u c k i n g   b u l l s h i t .  ’    An ever-present smile was HUNG from one ear to the other as he  s i z e d   u p the blonde in front of him.    ‘ You QUEER ? ’

              well...    it hadn’t been a joke.      the slightest knit of his brow is apparent for a split second,  before he takes a drag  &  eliminates it;   no sign of confusion  or  offense across his features.    if anything,   his eyes are loaded with the message:  are you done yet?      ( like any man,  lucien can’t say he takes any pleasure in being laughed at ).                  his expression grows more defensive at the proclamation that it’s BULLSHIT.     “ i disagree.   i know a thing or two about emotions,  my friend   ”   facial features go from DEFENSIVE   to   SHOCKED at the question ;  it hangs in the air a second too long    before he pushes himself back to neutral.      “ no?    no,        unfortunately for you.    ”

OK SOMETHING I HAVE TO MAKE VERY VERY CLEAR ABOUT MY PORTRAYAL: yes, this blog is movie-based and I don’t plan on having too much historical influence but one thing that will absolutely NOT be handled the way it was in the film is lucien’s relationship with david.
