I am a part in an OSDD system. This is not a roleplay blog. I am a fictive of Cecil Palmer from Welcome To Night Vale.

I do not use you/r pronouns and I use any and all neos.

you can rip the tilde (~) and eyes emoji (👀) from my cold, dead, rotting, festering hands I do not care and do NOT assume I am using the tilde for sexual reasons I do it to portray a sing-songy or silly tone

A little more about me:

I am bodily 16. Part age, though? I am ageless as time does not work the way it should sometimes! :-)

I'm gay-ish and taken, in a QPP. I am a selfshipper and autosexual --- I selfship both Cecil and Carlos from WTNV, Harvey from Bloodmoney, and I am objectum.

I am also transmasculine, though I don't particularly care for gender as a concept.

I am currently on Year 6 of WTNV. I am listening to it with my IRL little brother and both of us would prefer if you didn't spoil it for us.

i see "nonbinary people don't owe you androgyny" at least three times a week but in 9 years of being out, the times where i felt like androgyny was genuinely expected of me, i can probably count on one hand. like to the point where i can't remember specific instances.

in my case and from what i've seen for many other nonbinary people afab or assumed to be, the expectation isn't androgyny but masculinity. the expectation is the supposed opposite of our agab. and it's not to prove our nonbinarity because the people who have those expectations usually don't truly believe we exist anyway. they expect me to be masculine to "show" them that i'm not a woman. if i'm feminine, i'm not trying hard enough. if i'm masculine though, i'm secretly a trans man or should just accept that i'm a masculine woman. society is known for saying one thing and moving the goalposts. oh you were afab and non-feminine? well, you're not a real woman. oh you don't identify as a woman? well, it's ok to just be a masculine woman. oh you want us to recognise you as anything other than a woman? completely swing the other way. oh now you're masculine? it's just a matter of time before you go by he/him. i've seen similar things happen to nonbinary people amab. and i have seen this whole thing come from other trans people too.

you wanna know what really happens when a nonbinary person is androgynous or neither masc nor fem? we don't get praised. we aren't accepted. we don't pass as nonbinary. we're still sorted into binaries because gender presentation can be quite subjective (as in if someone happens to know many women with a relatively androgynous hairstyle, they're more likely to subconsciously see it as fem hair because people have learned to sort everything into binaries). and even if people can't categorise us, they won't recognise us, still see us as broken versions of binary genders, harass us, and sometimes we're told by our own community it's our fault for dressing and looking that way.

i don't know how "nonbinary people don't owe you androgyny" started, but istg, sometimes it feels like it only exists to dissuade nonbinary people from straying too far from the binary, to keep us as "normal" and palatable as possible, to keep us away from becoming less categorisable.

it's also just never really been about androgyny specifically. it's about androgyny being as narrowly defined as possible so it only exists as a hypothetical and nothing anyone could ever really be, it's about keeping masculinity and especially femininity broad so that everyone is included in at least one of the two. and this is what i mean when i say society moves the goalposts, because masc and fem are narrow as fuck and broad as fuck at the same time to match whatever bigoted argument someone is trying to make.

lastly, it's worth noting that the people who repeat the argument - yes even the allies and the trans people and the few nonbinary people - have a limited understanding of gender expression and think androgyny is the only way to be outside of the masc/fem binary, so technically this applies to anyone who is neither masc nor fem or both masc and fem, which is why as a non-androgynous enby this feels personal. (to think how many people understand that gender is a broad spectrum but presentation still fits within a linear system of three categories is beyond me)

As a scientist I find the concept of Cecil freely yapping about Carlos on the radio so funny because if I was in the lab just going about my experiments and then some person on the radio started talking about how hot I am I would get clowned on it by my coworkers beyond belief. Every time I walked into the lab the grad students there would’ve been like “there he is with his perfect hair 😩” and if the centrifuge broke “try asking it to work with your sweet caramel voice 😫” like deadass the lab would be insufferable for months
