the "i'm a luxury few can afford" sweater but instead it says "i'm an acquired taste few can appreciate"
drunken confession.
melamemea:
your muse is drinking with mine and has been given the chance to question my muse anything they want to know. some may be triggering, others won’t. send me a 🍻+ the question you want to ask my muse for a tipsy, drunken ( honest ) answer.
“ what’s holding you back in life ?”
“ is everything alright? ”
“ when did you choose to give up ?”
“ what’s the kinkiest thing you have ever done ?”
“ how many have you slept with ?”
“ what’s your biggest secret ?”
“ do you believe in love ?”
“ what’s the meanest thing you have done ?”
“ what scares you more than anything ?”
“ have you ever considered running away ?”
“ do you love me ?”
“ what’s your dirtiest fantasy ?”
“ who hurt you ?”
“ what made you this way ?”
“ is there anyone special in your life ?”
“ why are you always smiling ?”
“ what lie have you told that hurt someone ?”
“ if you could do anything in world, what would it be ?”
“ who are you, really ?”
“ is there anything you regret ?”
“ what’s your biggest regret ?”
“ tell me about your first kiss ?”
“ what is your deepest, darkest fear ?”
“ is there anyone you regret kissing ?”
“ have you ever cheated, or been cheated on ?”
“ what is the most embarrassing thing in your room ?”
“ who have you loved, but they didn’t love you back ?”
“ is there something you have never told anyone ?”
“ when was the last time you cried ?”
“ how come you keep running away ?”
“ have you ever made someone cry ?”
“ if anything, what makes you hate a person ?”
“ what takes for you to fall in love, trust someone ?”
“ do you believe in true love ?”
“ what have you done that people would judge you most for doing ?”
“ do you regret letting me close ?”
“ is there someone you have a crush on ?”
“ what is the strangest place you have ever had sex ?”
“ tell me your most awkward date story ?”
“ do you ever get scared ?”
“ what do you really think of life ?”
add your own for further development.

honey: when your muse loves someone (whether it be romantic, platonic, or familial love), how do they show it?
why, he abuses his power as a local radio host to gush about them to the entire town, of course! i wish this were a joke. seriously, he’s so much better at vocalizing his emotions on the air than actually expressing them in person, so he’ll spend as much of his airtime as possible talking about his loved ones and their latest accomplishments.
even off the air, cecil expresses his love mostly through conversation. it’s simple -- he talks as much as possible to people he cares about.
raspberry: what food and/or drink can your muse not get enough of? do they indulge in it often, or is it something reserved for special occasions?
honestly? liquor. brandy is reserved for special occasions of course, but cheap wine will do during much sadder ones, too. it’s something he tries to keep from his husband, but it doesn’t always help when his horoscope while missing carlos dearly was “perhaps take up drinking while crying in a quiet room”, and cecil announced it on air.

malachite: has your muse ever done anything that they wound up feeling incredibly guilty for in the end?
a handful of times -- it’s not uncommon for cecil to jump the gun on disliking somebody without a good reason to, convincing himself they’d done something to wrong him and then later finding out they did nothing of the sort and feeling guilty about it. like ruining his friendship with former intern dana cardinal or spending years of his life hating his brother in law steve carlsberg. hell, part of him even regrets treating kevin (the host of desert bluffs community radio) with so much hostility once cecil learned his unexpectedly sympathetic past.
olive: is your muse prone to feeling envious of others? if yes, what is it that they typically feel envious over?
answered here!
silk: does your muse care about appearances much? do they spend a lot of time on their own appearance, or do they just go with the flow each day?
oh god, does he ever just go with the flow. it’s about the only thing cecil seems capable of doing.
well, okay, he does put a lot of work into his appearance (especially his fashion), but night vale’s trends and styles are far, far different from any other towns on any planet. that is to say, cecil is considered one of night vale’s most fashionable citizens, but most people anywhere else would think his sense of style is eccentric at best and downright ugly at worst.
i mean, this is the man who wore cat ears to the opera, after all.

vermillion: is your muse courageous, or would they consider themselves to be more of a coward?
well, he’d most likely consider himself more of a coward, since he views himself as just some humble community radio host. but just like with almost everything else in his life, cecil’s perception of reality is certainly skewed, and his actions are demonstrably more courageous than he believes or would readily admit. i mean, come on -- think of all his rebellious acts against government forces and corporations alike!
crimson: how passionate is your muse about the things they love most?
oh, extremely passionate. he often takes to boasting or gushing about loved ones, their accomplishments, or current projects in his life while on the air to most of night vale. cecil claims that he dislikes talking about his personal life on the radio -- and yet, in reality, he rarely shuts up about it.
new leaf: what message would your muse send to their past self, if any?
“remember to tell people that you love them before you hang up the phone and take more vacation days from work to spend time with them. also, you don’t have a brother. you don’t have a brother. remember that. in this reality, you do not have a brother, and you do not have to impress him.”

olive: is your muse prone to feeling envious of others? if yes, what is it that they typically feel envious over?
typically, no, there aren’t a lot of things that spark envy in cecil. for the most part, he’s satisfied with his life. after all, he’s got a successful career doing what he loves in his beloved home town of night vale with the husband of his dreams -- what more could he ask for?
but while he’s gotten over his hatred for his brother-in-law, steve carlsburg, some old envy still remains. for what, you ask? well, it’s very specific, but it could apply to just about anyone in steve’s shoes.
when confronted about it, cecil himself admitted that all his anger and jealousy towards said brother-in-law is simply a result of the role he played in cecil’s family dynamic. he once had to support his sister and niece financially, emotionally, and directly with babysitting time, due to his niece’s spina bifida. he had never even been all that close with his sister, abby. to this day, he still isn’t. but being there for his niece, janice, had soothed their tumultuous relationship somewhat -- until steve came into the picture and filled the role that cecil once had. he supported his new wife and step-daughter more than cecil could, and while he knew he should have felt grateful for steve’s good parenting and a lot of work lifted off of cecil’s shoulders, he couldn’t help feeling a petty sort of envy and anger that he was no longer needed.
yes, yes, cecil & steve have worked this out and now consider themselves the best of friends, but the same could happen to just about anyone in cecil’s life, under the right circumstances.

anomalious:
𝓣he occasional jolt of the train car had little effect on the constitution of the inter-dimensional wanderer, who had often boarded more rickety transports than this enroute to untold dangers. Still, in spite of a stomach which was iron-clad in the face of the nausea-inducing wrench that accompanied the uncomfortable shift from one dimension to another– his eyes were the ones that failed him in this moment.
Illumination of his reading material was far from reliable, as the light stuttered now and again with the rocking of the train car. He therefore returned the magazine back to where he had found it– crammed between the crack of the sideways seat he occupied and the one beside it.
Fingertips gravitated to the bridge of his nose beneath his glasses as he shut his eyes tightly, unable to stave off the images and ludicrous headlines the tabloid hosted– daring assumptions such as: ”𝙸𝚜 𝚈𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝙾𝚟𝚎𝚛-𝚏𝚎𝚍 𝙿𝚕𝚎𝚌𝚘𝚜𝚝𝚘𝚖𝚞𝚜 𝙲𝚘𝚗𝚝𝚛𝚘𝚕𝚕𝚒𝚗𝚐 𝚝𝚑𝚎 𝚆𝚎𝚊𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚛? 𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝙰𝚗𝚜𝚠𝚎𝚛 𝙼𝚊𝚢 (𝙽𝚘𝚝) 𝚂𝚞𝚛𝚙𝚛𝚒𝚜𝚎 𝚈𝚘𝚞” and “𝙼𝚊𝚗 𝙼𝚞𝚐𝚐𝚎𝚍 𝙱𝚢 𝙰 𝙿𝚊𝚛𝚛𝚘𝚝: 𝚃𝚑𝚎 𝚃𝚛𝚞𝚎 𝙲𝚛𝚒𝚖𝚎 𝚂𝚝𝚘𝚛𝚢”. How was he ever meant to uncover a viable lead beneath all that unhinged rabble?
Of course, Stanford reflected, some of these stories (unearth in Spirale at least) might very well be true; and that thought did little to ease his budding headache.
So, when he at last moved his fingers over to his temple and opened his eyes to view the individual across from him– evidently deeply engrossed in the same tabloid Ford had discarded– he couldn’t keep his mouth shut.
“Is anything in there salvageable as a genuine lead around here– anything at all?” After all, he was investigating fact, not fiction (in spite of the occasions the two intermingled).
@goodniightvale
three eyes strain somewhat against inconsistent lighting and an ever-present shakiness of the train car to read the cheap tabloid currently clutched in cecil’s painted fingernails. he scans each article with varying degrees of interest -- as each new page seems to bring varying degrees of truth to the table. he scoffs and skips the provably false, but hangs on to every word of anything that appears to be true, or at the very least, believable.
“hang on, just let me finish this.” cecil holds up a finger to the stranger across the aisle, who somehow had no idea that he’s currently busy. he even calls out a response without any eye turning up from the pages. “i’m reading ‘𝚙𝚒𝚛𝚊𝚗𝚑𝚊-𝚒𝚗𝚏𝚎𝚜𝚝𝚎𝚍 𝚕𝚊𝚔𝚎𝚜, 𝚙𝚘𝚗𝚍𝚜, 𝚊𝚗𝚍 𝚜𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚛𝚜! 𝚍𝚊𝚗𝚐𝚎𝚛 𝚒𝚗 𝚢𝚘𝚞𝚛 𝚋𝚊𝚌𝚔𝚢𝚊𝚛𝚍 !’ and let me tell you, i am enraptured. now, i’ve never seen any large bodies of water like those in real life, but you know, i really think this one could be true!”
it only takes a few more moments of enthralled reading (accompanied by ‘hmm’s and ‘wow!’s at the appropriate moments) for cecil to finally set the magazine aside and turn his attention to the stranger across from him.
“i mean, wow, right? journalist to journalist, that’s some fine reporting! except for that article about pet fish supposedly controlling the weather. i mean, fish don’t actually exist and we all know the government controls the weather. and earthquakes. and they monitor your thoughts and activities. there’s no secret there! but hey, isn’t it great that they’re at least open about it? who needs conspiracy theories like these when the city council just tells us the truth?”
seerspectacles:
people didn’t usually go out of their way to state that he looked weird. the looking away, the pretending they never saw him, the clear unease, however, was extremely familiar. from a person with three eyes, though - that definitely was a first.
still, he gave no indication of being offended, particularly as the other man began to - perhaps nervously - ramble. but indrid’s smile never wavered, and he awaited patiently for the stranger to finish. now that he’d had some insight into just how…off he looked ( seeing himself through jon’s eyes had not been unpleasant nor pleasant, but gave him insight ), he supposed that he understood a bit more than he should have what the man was trying to convey. there was a distinct kind of horror to humans when something was almost human, formerly human, or never was human. indrid supposed that depending on how one looked at him, he may have fallen into multiple or all categories.
hands buried in his coat jacket, indrid shifted his weight from foot-to-foot idly as the man finished his description. “ well, i suppose i understand a bit? it’s…abstract, to be sure, but i’m certain that in the sixties, there were more vague but overall similar descriptions of me. ” indrid offered with a smile that was meant to be friendly and off-putting, but only succeeded in showing a few too many teeth in a smile just a bit too wide. “ i’ve been called ‘human-adjacent’ as well, but i have to say that ‘newspaper-dispenser-adjacent’ is a new one. ” indrid laughed quietly - a soft, gentle sound at odds with razor-teeth.
“ unfortunately, i think i might be one of the ‘less weird-looking’ inhabitants of this city. ” in this body, at least. “ are you a new resident? though, i suppose ‘resident’ or ‘citizen’ implies a voluntary move… ”
well, at least he doesn’t seem upset. so maybe it’s a net win after all? cecil makes an attempt at a smile, supposing that that’s the sort of thing he really ought to be doing right now, but he gets the distinct impression that it may be more forced and nervous than actually friendly and reassuring. but a smile’s a difficult thing to maintain, you know, when your eyes are struggling to decide what in front of you is reality, and what is anything but.
“oh! the sixties! you’re sort of old, too!” cecil. shut up. shut up! at least he clears his throat to speak more clearly before he ignores his own instructions. “but what is age, anyway? after all, time is little more than a word people throw around when they want to sound busy and important, but it’s not like it’s some real, tangible thing with a measurable effect on our lives or existence. sort of like... board meetings. or whatever it is that’s on the arby’s menu.”
all in all, cecil is trying less to be kind and more to be not terrified. he’s being presented with too many teeth, the wrong number of eyes (is two too many, or not enough?), and the rubbery, uncanny valley of a mannequin’s flesh. like the shimmering on a scorching asphalt road on an august afternoon that looks an awful lot like a puddle in the middle of a desert town, the person in front of him is a mirage, not-someone, not-something, but still existing in front of cecil’s very eyes.
and smiling. smiling so, so very wide. and my, those teeth! this smile is no gesture of goodwill and those teeth are no orthodontist’s pride and joy -- that is a threat, and those are weapons. briefly, cecil weighs his own estimated running speed against this stranger’s.
“i’m... no, i didn’t move here. i don’t live here. and i’m most certainly not from here. i think i would hate to be from here. no offence.” at least they could make pleasant conversation with each other. if nothing else, cecil prides himself on his gift of talking, and it’s gotten him out of more sticky situations than any form of self-defence. so maybe he can simply chit-chat out of this strange person’s way.
“speaking of which, are you from desert bluffs? you’ve just got that... oh, you know... that --” and here he tries his best not to grimace in thinly-veiled agony, “-- cheerful strexcorp smile.”
