not to be all "this is why im not woke anymore" because im still a committed progressive leftist etc etc but
i really feel like a lot of problems have occurred because someone said "you need to listen to marginalized voices and consider their perspectives in your analysis" and everyone else heard "you need to believe the analysis of marginalized people" which
first, no marginalized group is a monolith even about their marginalization. huge numbers of immigrants in the us wanted to crack down on other immigrants. there was a time in america when women were split pretty evenly on the abortion topic. so many cis gay men are regressive on gay rights.
second, different marginalized groups interact. what do you do when a cishet mestizo immigrant man and a white trans woman have a disagreement? what if it touches on racism - because all things do - but also gender issues - because all things do?
also, its like, marginalized people can be wrong. they can live through an experience and still misunderstand the context of that. they might have a perspective worth sharing but do the math wrong on what it means. "listen to marginalized voices" means actually considering what they say, giving it the same thought we give privileged voices. disagreement is fine; unless we're going to be self-contradictory we're going to disagree with someone. but you have to listen, genuinely listen, first

you know I hear a lot about trans men being mistaken for trans women, but not a lot about trans women being mistaken for trans men
am I just not hearing about it, or is it maybe something to do with the fact that transfemininity is more scrutinized and presumed? like, I wonder if people are more inclined to try to spot it because we are so fearmongered about
I have been on multiple dates where they assumed I was transmasc, and was ghosted when they realized I was transfem. I know it happens when I am inexplicably treated with dignity and respect on accident
I've talked to a lot of lesbians, and most assume (because I am butch) that I'm transmasc. Also because I have a deeper voice, a lot of people assume that I'm on testosterone. When they find out I am not, that's where pleasant conversation ends. Queer people are fine with a masculine woman, except when she's transfem.
Happened to me a few times earlier in my transition when I presented more non-binary. Stubble also grew out disgustingly swiftly and contributed to these kinds of misunderstandings. And yeah the amount of people who ghosted me after finding out I was a transfem was all but one of the people with the misconception (and that one still stopped seeing me as a viable romantic partner after realizing)
at some point after I started E, I started getting he/himmed in the same conspicuously-supportive way that I had been getting she/hered. took me a while to figure out that that people were thinking I was transmasc. I didn't understand why they were conspicuously supportive but, when I corrected them to she/her, they'd give me this politely strained smile.
interesting how stories of TME people being mistaken for trans women is often "things were scary but then i could use the fact that i was AFAB as a fun gotcha" but the stories of TMA people being mistaken for transmascs (at least here) have the reveal that they're transfemme being the part where things get scary
On the 4th of July 2018 some anarchists in Sydney painted a memorial piece for Dan Shersty and Spit Newborn.
Dan and Spit were young anti-fascist skinheads, punk musicians, and founding members of the Las Vegas chapter of Anti-Racist Action.
On the 4th of July 1998 they were lured into the desert on the outskirts of Vegas and gunned down by a gang of 6 white supremacists, only three of whom ever served time for the murders.
Twenty years on, their memory is kept alive in the daily struggle against racism and fascist terror.

The Tower. Art by Eva Consentino.
the implication. of depicting. just like a regular ass looking bisexual. as THE TOWER. is fucking sending me.
they should make it a law that if you make a joke about polyamory it cant be any of the five jokes ive already heard about polyamory bc those arent funny to me anymore
i think something is really lost when we whitewash cards like the Death card or the Tower into being about "a change" in the abstract. specifically, there are lots of cards that are about change. like a good half the deck is about something new starting, something old ending, or something changing shape.
and like, endings arent always bad, sure. upheavels arent always bad. also sure. but why are you softening your message instead of speaking clearly and then guiding someone through the work of coming to terms with whats going on?
Annoyed with a video essay about misogyny in fandom spaces because the person making the video was saying "men" when they meant men, but they were saying "AFAB people" when they meant women. Quickly. What Demographic Are You Excluding By Saying This. This stupid fucking video essay was supposed to be about misogyny whilst excluding an entire demographic of women that does very much experience a lot of misogyny in fandom spaces (and everywhere else for that matter).
No-one wants to admit we are subject to misogyny. They would rather sweep it under the rug and misgender trans men in the process.
ive come across so many people who use AFAB and AMAB to mean "misogyny affected" and "misogyny exempt" bc they inhabit Woke Spaces but have not deconstructed the binary and its actually worse than kind naivete
theres a post going around suggesting margaret murray as a source on traditional witchcraft and no, margaret murray's academic work is not a good description of the folk magical practices that existed before her.
however, she's hugely influential on the witchcraft that comes after. so yes, read margaret murray, not as an academic source, but as a foundational document.
im so often in circles where its in vogue to see things like witchcraft and tarot as fundamentally psychological activities without supernatural phenomena. this is often called "Jungian" or at least they defer to Jung with it, with this implication that to be Jungian is to engage with magical symbol without believing it has magical power.
so imagine my shock when i start reading Jung's Liber Novus and learning more about Jung it suddenly becomes apparent that he like. his opinions were a lot more complex than just "these are fun things we imagine." like he said he didnt believe in God because he knew. guy was doing something different than strict monotheism or strict polytheism but it wasnt, as ive seen it painted, atheism with play-pretend characteristics.

Touting the discovery as a breakthrough in understanding the behavioral patterns of the insects, Rockefeller University researchers published a study Friday revealing that mosquitos are more attracted to people branded with the Mosquito God’s rune of punishment. “After several rounds of clinical trials with a control group, we can confirm that anyone marked by the imprint of suffering from Ranggnarr, The God of Mosquitos, is far more likely to be bitten by the insect deity’s loyal worshippers,” said Entomology Department Head Marcus Falwell, advising Americans who plan on spending time outdoors to cover any exposed skin that was singed with righteous flames by the Supreme Winged Being as penance for crimes against mosquito-kind.
