Living Fossil: Thank You!
I want to thank everyone who came out to Living Fossil's sold out album release party at Burdock on February 3rd! The band sounded amazing and the audience was an absolute joy to play for. There's nothing better than playing for a receptive audience after completing a project of this magnitude. I would also like to thank all the friends, family, mentors, and colleagues that have supported me while putting this project together; I couldn't have done it with out all of you. :-)
NEVER DIE! is #1 Jazz Album Nationally
Living Fossil has been getting some amazing feedback from the show and from reviewers, blogs, podcasts, and radio shows around the globe. And... I'm really excited to announce that Living Fossil's NEVER DIE! is the #1 Jazz album on !Earshot National Jazz Charts for the 2nd week in a row!
Here's what people are saying...
“Living Fossil boasts eminent sonorities well rooted in today’s jazz and rock genres, but wisely seeks inspiration in essential jewels from the past. Never Die! is an auspicious debut for this flexible Canadian band.” -Filipe Freitas, JazzTrail
“NEVER DIE! is an altogether superb debut outing… Throughout the disc, Hyland and his bandmates show themselves to be a versatile lot, capable of essaying a post-bop style as convincingly as something rock-edged, and the strong rapport evidenced by the playing reveals a deep connection forged by musicians who’ve played together for years.”
-Ron Schlepper, Textura.org
“Chestnut-toned tenor saxist Gordon Hyland creates an album of varying sepia tones…”
-Jazz Weekly
“… an intriguingly original and mature sound while at the same time never being afraid of bending genre-boundaries, ultimately leading to a candidly adventurous record.” - 4 Stars
-Friedrich Kunzmann, All About Jazz
“Ever wonder what New York free jazz would sound like if it were transplanted to the Toronto jazz scene where a bunch of local hitters were turned loose to go and hit it? Scenes are blossoming everywhere and this affords a glance to sounds you think would be more of the house on first variety to chase away the cold. There’s plenty of fire, it’s just of a different métier. Left leaning tastes will get this work out well. ”
