Wow. How nice to make fun of vegans instead of using your brains for once second and thinking about the pain animals go through so you can eat them. And no, plants can’t feel pain and they are not sentient. So there is not “chekmate” and this isn’t funny. It just shows how pathetic and insensitive you’all are. Now go eat your disgusting animals products and continue pretending that you do no harm because you’d need a heart of care and feel guilty and you don’t have one. Just do that without bothering those who are doing something to help animals.

The rabbits and pigs I eat felt no pain, so I assume consuming them is fine with you? Some rabbits and pigs we raise to eat, other succumb to illness/injury that doesn’t harm the meat, such as a respiratory infection, or a broken spine. Is it wrong to consume them? I’m not going to change what I do, I just would like to hear your take on the situation.

I’m curious to know how the animals you eat feel no pain. So you eat them after they die? I don’t think that’s a solution. I have never heard of such a thing so I don’t even know what to say. And where do you find those already dead animals? I think that’s extremely risky for your own health and it’s not a good idea. I’m sure that’s even more unhealthy than eating the meat of a slaughtered animal. I personally would never eat the meat from an already dead animal but you do you. It’s much easier and safer eating vegetarian and vegan food. What do you expect me to say?

Because I shoot them in the back of the head, severing the brain from the spine before a pin signal can be created and sent, the ones I raise to be terminated anyway. As for the ones that die on their own, I find them within hours, because I live my animals and I check on them three times a day at the very least. I know what health they are in, I know why they died, and I know if they are safe to eat or not.

I would like your opinion on not only my methods, but why you may think your alternatives are better, even with the cruelty attached and the newfound awareness plants do have. What makes plants version of pain lesser to animals? Are insects animals in your book?

I’d like to know how people continue to be adamant that plants cannot feel pain even while plants know they’re being eaten and have a nervous system. They’re rather unlike mammals, but that doesn’t mean they can’t feel pain. It wasn’t that long ago that humans thought infants couldn’t feel pain and would do open heart surgery on them without anesthesia…

We always fed our animals their favorite food before instantly killing them as well, so they’d feel no fear or pain. I have no choice but to eat animals, so I do what I can to limit any suffering there could be. Life is a cycle, and there cannot be life without death, but we can at least try to be compassionate and not “holier than thou” about something while ignoring the possibility that those actions may indeed be causing something pain.

Thank you for blocking me and doing absolutely no research whatsoever. We’ve actually known plants have a nervous system for a while now (here’s a study from 1926 on it, and even Darwin talked about plants communicating), yet people like you act like you’re superior to others because you only eat plants? It’s convenient to think your food doesn’t feel pain.

Being vegan is a lifestyle that isn’t suited to everyone, and I know quite a few vegans who are not all “I’m a better person than you because I don’t eat meat.” You’re acting holier than thou by acting like everyone who doesn’t live the way you do is a horrible human being.

And if a wild animal or cannibal ate me, it means I wasn’t able to protect myself, and at least my body will have gone to some good use feeding something. It is natural to eat, and we eat what we can. I would never condone cannibalism for a number of reasons, such as how there are too many things that can cross the blood brain barrier, though I have it under good authority that humans taste more like lamb than pig, like I’d originally thought.

Not all animals have a social life, does that mean I can eat them? But plants definitely communicate, and they do move and react. They can even recognize different smells and enjoy music, they can hear. There is nothing wrong with recognizing this fact and still eating them. We have to survive somehow, though I am actually allergic to plants and I’m not the only one, and we have to survive however we can. We’re not going to commit suicide.

I’m just tired of the double standard. You can claim plants aren’t the same as animals all you want, but the fact is that they are alive, they react to pain, they communicate, smell, hear, have a nervous system, enjoy music, and to claim you’re a better person for eating them than a puppy is disingenuous (also, dog isn’t that good, cow is much better. Dogs are more useful to us as companion animals than food).

The only reason it seems logical to you is because you can relate to other mammals. They’re close to you, you can recognize similar traits in them. This is also why more people don’t mind eating fish, because they’re strange and foreign compared to mammals. This is also why most people don’t care about hurting insects. You yourself have a hierarchy of what life you deem more worthy of living than others, yet you condemn others for having a different one? Hypocrite. Surely all life should be equal. Shouldn’t we all live with nature, as what we did for tens of thousands of years before humanity decided to stray away from it?

It doesn’t matter if it’s the same as eating a puppy to you, we’re talking about life here, and whether or not our food feels pain when we eat it. Can you honestly say your food doesn’t send out warning signals to other plants as you bite into it? It doesn’t make you a bad person, what makes someone bad is when they lord it over everyone else and claim people who don’t live the way they do is a horrible person. The hypocrisy is the major problem.

I'm a rather sickly person with iron deficiency. I've tried going Vegan several times because I thought it would help me lose weight and get healthier, but it made me incredibly weak (even with proper supplements.) Some people just need meat, and as much as I love and adore animals, I'm not going to sacrifice my health for an animal that's going to die in my lifetime anyways. Do I wish factory farms had better environments for their livestock? Of course I do. But that sort of change doesn't come about by not eating meat, it comes about by supporting local farmers and buying fresh meat from them. Humans are omnivores and we have a wide selection of diets to choose from, some benefit from vegan diets better than others, and some require the nutrients meat provides them. It's a personal choice, and [obnoxious] vegans need to get off their high horses and realize they aren't saints for not eating meat, and the animals they pass up in the supermarket are not going to come back to life by acting like a prick to the woman buying a roasted chicken to feed to her family. Please realize that compassion towards other human beings should come first, and animals, as non-sentient beings, come second.

My biggest problem with veganism is the level of self righteousness. It’s a lifestyle that only survives in a culture of indulgence and they act like its this huge selfless act. There's always that possiblity that maybe, just maybe... It's you who brings out the worst in him. Yeah, I might sound like a bitch for saying that but I lived my entire life thinking men just suck, they're hot and adorable but man, they can just be evil!!! And then I met the love of my life. Immediate chemistry, I found him totally adorable and we started dating not long after. And then, the fighting started. I was pissed that he wouldn't talk to me enough, or take me out enough, or buy me flowers or do what all the OTHER guys did for THEIR girlfriends. I constantly compared him to the guy down the street who proposed to his girl last week, to my best friend's boo who just bought her a $200 necklace, I ripped on him day and night and even threw tantrums in public just to see how he'd deal with them. I made our relationship a living hell for him, but he still stayed. But even when guy down the street was caught cheating and the engagement was off, or my best friend dumped her boo for someone better who treated like she wanted be treated and didn't just buy her stuff all the time, my guy was still the worst. Until the day I lost him. I was devastated for months, but during those months, I began to think about myself and what I had done to him. The way I had treated him, and how he really was a great guy, but I chose, in my own heart, to only see the bad. I worked harder on changing myself, and he came back to me. We've had our downfalls since, but we have both grown in such incredible ways. I support him and encourage him in everything he does, and he does the same for me. This time around, we are true partners, and I no longer focus on what he DOESN'T do, the things that made him seem evil to me. Sometimes, when it seems like everyone you know is an asshole, you need to take a look in the mirror. Men are people, people are human, and humans are not perfect creatures that will always say or do the right thing at the right time. Yes, sometimes the guy really is just a big douche, but you have no obligation to remain with him. Go out, find a good guy, don't worry about how he looks because trust me sweetheart 2 years down the road and that won't matter one bit. And remember again, anyone can bring out the hideous hidden underbelly we ALL possess if that's the only thing you look at.

Can’t tell you how many times I’ve been coerced into sex because some girl decided that she wanted it, and when I say no she turns it into some kind of criticism of her. Or I’m cheating. I have found that I am very good at never being responded to.

Welcome to day 2 of Marie’s job search, where pain is infinite and escape is futile.

Today I sent a third email to a woman who, just last Thursday, wanted to interview me for a receptionist position.

That Thursday in question was the day I emailed her, asking for a time we could set up for a phone interview.

I never received a response.

The very next day, I called her up on the telly. Left a message, “hey there plz call me back or email me or something.”

Of course it was more formal than that but, you know.

I gave her a few days, you know, a buffer.

Wednesday, I emailed her telling her I called her and emailed her and she hasn’t yet responded. I asked her if shes still interested.

Today I emailed her again, this time from a different email.

Maybe that will help.

I'm going to start posting daily about my job searches to keep my morale up.

I'm going to consider this day 1 because otherwise I'd have to count the 6 years of continuous searching before it. So welcome to day one of Marie's job search. Today the most interesting place I applied to was a country club in Wellington. If you don't live in FL, Wellington is an uppity uppity snobfest, but they tip well and most of them really appreciate "lower level workers." My dad loved going to Wellington estates as a pizza delivery man because they would give out $10-$20 tips if you were fast and friendly. Anyhow, the country club had what is perhaps the most unique and creative job application I've ever seen. Instead of some dumbass personality quiz, they gave situations and had you actually write and describe HOW you would deal with them. I thought I did really really well, so we'll see if I receive a call :) staying hopeful.
