NORMALIZE the thing that looks like an old man living in your basement
DESTIGMATIZE the act of closing your vent to stop his dry whispering– which you cannot tell whether it is random or directed at you– from reaching you
ROMANTICIZE the idea of counting the number of stairs he climbs each night and praying he never makes it to the top
GUYS THIS IS SO IMPORTANT
we HAVE to let people know its okay to experience:
being repulsed by the putrid smell of his bile
feeling sick when seeing your grandparents because of the thing in your basement
locking your bedroom door even though you know it wouldnt be enough to stop him
letting your faucets run for a few seconds every morning because ever since he arrived more and more of your tap water had come out black as ink
knowing exactly what he looks like even though the only time you ever saw him was your first encounter with him at your uncle’s funeral when you were 6
questioning why youre the only one who remembers your dog
why cant anyone else remember your dog
what happened to your dog
oh my god i can still hear him whimpering downstairs some nights
i dont know if its actually him or just that thing taunting me
@normal-horoscopes
This is so important and valid.

So true
“Hey so don’t be mean to girls with body hair. They don’t have to shave. Let girls be in their natural state if they want to.”
“Any woman who shaves is controlled and brainwashed by men. Oh and if you sexually prefer a woman who shaves, you’re a pedophile.”
‘Any woman who….’ said no radfem ever.
And yes - any man who ‘sexually prefers a a woman who shaves’ has clearly used a lot of porn - much of which is ‘barely legal’ and full of under-age imagery.
I’ve had radfems say “any woman who” to me personall actually.
Also no, you’re an idiot. I as a woman am attracted to woman who choose to shave, am I a pedophile now? An adult woman attracted to other adult women who happen to shave? Clearly too much “barely legal” porn and even underage imagery? I shave. I am adult woman. Am I suddenly prepubescent? Underage?
You’re fucking gross.
Women shaving their pubic area is very recent in historical terms. Of course people can develop a preference for anything - a Spiderman costume if you like.- getting turned on by it because they’ve been turned on by it before.
However all of this started in the porn industry a couple of decades ago, and now despite the health risks nearly a majority of women (US and UK) - and a large majority of younh women - shave when in the past this was very rare.
You may be different but the way this transfer must have happened from porn to the whole population is by the pressure from straight men wanting their partners to look like the women they were seeing in porn.
This pressure to look and be like women in porn continues - including much of the one-sided sex being expected as a right ‘don’t be boring’ - BJs and anal and…., violent degrading sex and so on. Girls who don’t shave after they start growing hair are now called dirty.
Boys accessing porn now online, not available in the past, from absurdly young ages develop a skewed understanding of sex and relationships before they have a clue what they are doing. Evidence shows their attitudes from it affect their future relationships. Some 'try out’ things in porn with younger siblings.
There is a lot to be alarmed about here, which is why people campaign against it. That involves challenging a lot of what people now think of as normal.
People may make individual choices - but these are in a social context, nobody had a preference for an unshaved look 50 years ago.
It can be uncomfortable realising that the choices we think of as completely individual are influenced. 'Are you saying I’m brainwashed?!?’ is missing the point.
None of this information changes anything I said. Literally none of it. Like you said, people can preference anything, and it isnt automatically connected to anything sinister.
As I said, not shaving is totally fine and choosing to shave is also totally fine. Other women feeling pressured to shave doesn’t make a difference to the original post, at all. It’s a problem but it’s not connected to this post. I’m so fucking tired of this idea that because something has roots in the dreaded patriarchy or whatever means that NO woman can choose to do this for HERSELF.

Ancient Egypt
The Egyptians may have been the forerunners of many beauty rituals, but they invested the most time into hair removal. Women of ancient Egypt removed all of their body hair, including that on their heads, with tweezers (made from seashells), pumice stones, or early beeswax and sugar based waxes.
Roman Empire
During the Roman Empire, the lack of body hair was considered a sign of the classes. Wealthy women and men used razors made from flints, tweezers, creams, and stones to remove excess hair. In fact, even pubic hair was considered uncivilized which is why many famous statues and paintings of Grecian women are depicted hairless.
Middle Ages
Just like Cleopatra was a trendsetter in her time, so too was Queen Elizabeth 1 during the Middle Ages. She set the precedence for hair removal amongst women, who followed her lead by removing it from their faces, but not their bodies. The fashion of this era was to remove eyebrows and hair from the forehead (to make it appear larger), which women did by using walnut oil, or bandages soaked in amonia (which they got from their feline pets) and vinegar.
1700s
The late 18th century ushered in a more civilized approach to hair removal. While European and American women didn’t take too much consideration into it, Jean Jacques Perret, a French barber, created the first straight razor for men in 1760 which was used by some women.
1800s
By 1844, Dr. Gouraud had created one of the first depilatory creams called Poudre Subtile. Soon after, in 1880, King Camp Gillette created the first modern day razor for men and thus a revolution was born. However, it would be another three decades before a razor specifically marketed for women would appear.
It takes one Google search to find this. ONE. Hair removal trends have been around for a… very long time.
Anyway, a shaven woman is not suddenly a child and preferring to not have a mouth full off pubes, or just not preferring the look of it, doesn’t make someone a pedophile.
