pietro and his twin sister were born into chaos and conflict. their home country was ravaged by war, and it came at a personal cost. their parents were killed by a stark bomb, and for two days, wanda and pietro feared a second would go off any moment. when they survived, pietro were recruited by hydra for experiments, under the guise of helping their country and seeking revenge. but soon they (or rather wanda) realized that this was not the right path for them, and instead they came to the avengers seeking asylum and healing. pietro isn’t sure it was the right call, and he still carries a lot of anger inside. but he would never leave his sister behind. not for anything. 

important stuff to know:

he is an avenger largely in name only because he's an angry little shit

so he's largely refused to do training with the team or go on missions or any of that nonsense. he trains by himself and with wanda, and keeps to himself beyond that

except when he wants to annoy people. which happens often

if something is not where you just left it, it's because this little dick ran by and moved it

if he could get over his anger, he'd actually be really happy to go out and do some good. because he does like helping people. but he just doesn't want anyone to know that

"It's an expression, Maximoff." Sam caught the pillow he attempted to throw at her and rolled her eyes, walking over to him. Sitting down beside him, she continued, "She's not terrifying. She's just a bitch to you. Because you're being a bitch. We need to get you out of here and get your head somewhere else for a little bit."

Pietro muttered his own Sokovian expression under his breath, sitting up to make room for Sam as she came over. "You could have ended that sentence two words earlier," he pointed out, giving her a look. He slumped back on the couch and raised a hand in the air. "What's the point? It's not like a change of scenery is going to fix my fuck-ups."

Barry chuckled, shaking his head. "Yeah, yeah, keep rubbing it in. But if you think you can do better, why don't we make it interesting? A little race, maybe?" He grinned, a spark of challenge in his eyes. "Winner gets bragging rights and loser buys dinner."

"I know I can do better, Flash-for-brains," Pietro replied, crossing his arms over his chest. He tilted his head cockily to the side. "You're on. It'll have to be delivery because I'm on 'Tower House Arrest,' but I've really been craving some free tacos." He gestured around the large, sectioned gymnasium that served for the training area. They had this part all to themselves, but there were a few other people scattered around. "We could do fifty laps around the place, or..." He rubbed his chin for a moment. "We could make it really interesting. Race from the top of the building to the bottom, touching every doorknob on the way. First one to the lobby wins?"

Pietro heard the voice from behind him and turned with a scowl. "Who invited you up here?" he asked, looking back to the cityscape. There were plenty of balconies in the tower, but this particular section of rooftop was a little harder to get to, more out of the way. Still, maybe she had just stumbled on him by accident, and she'd leave as quick as she'd shown up. "I'm fine. I'm not hurt." Not physically anyway. "I just wanted to be alone."

"You know, this really isn't an attractive look for you," Sam commented, looking at him. "Didn't Carter bench you from the field anyway?"

"Good. I'm not trying to attract anyone," Pietro muttered, but he pulled the pillow off his face. "You don't need to rub it in," he added, scowling. He tossed the pillow vaguely in her direction, but didn't care enough to truly aim it. "Seriously, don't go. Your stupid roommate is almost terrifying, and as you pointed out -- I'm stuck here. So keep me company or I'm going to lose my mind."

"If you're going to hang around, can you at least sit and not hover?" April moved her laptop to the other side of the table. "You're blocking my light."

Pietro glared at her, then zipped off, completely out of sight. Three seconds later (actually 2.4, but whatever) he was back. He had a tall stool, so when he sat on it he was still at the exact same height as before. "So sorry," he said in a monotone. He scoffed and looked away. "I'm not hovering around you anyway. I'm just... also here," he said, gesturing around the lounge. He'd been staring out the window, barely even aware of his surroundings before she said something to him. "What are you doing anyway?"

“I need a legitimate excuse to get out of this charity party thingy I said I'd go to this weekend,” Sam started. “I can’t be social anymore. I met my quota for the month.”

"Your best friend told you it was stupid. There, excuse given," Pietro muttered from the couch. It was hard to hear him from under the pillow but he refused to move it from his face. He was pouting. "Just stay home and watch stupid American movies with me."

“Thanks for not saying I told you so.”

"I just forgot how to say it in English," Pietro quipped, smirking wide. "Thanks for reminding me. I told you so, stupid. You suck at taking turns that fast." He did too, but that didn't need to be said right now.

"This artist is quite good, aren't they?" Charles nodded at the stage, a fond smile on his face. It felt good to get out of his office once in a while and Pride celebrations were always a good reason to go out. "I'm glad they're giving the floor to smaller artists this year, as well, don't you think?"

"Eh. American music all sounds the same to me." Pietro shrugged, smirking. "Big artist, small artist, all very stupid." He grinned, arms wide. "It's a joke. Mostly. A little bit. Anyway, surprised to see you out. Aren't you like, always working?"

"Do you?" Johnny looked up at Pietro, brow raised, questioningly. "Because, baby, sometimes you say stuff like that, and I don't know if you really do." But when Pietro took his hand, Johnny let him do it. And when he moved closer to him, Johnny did the same. He sighed and closed his eyes, letting Pietro hold him close as his words washed over him. "If you need it, you won't get it," Johnny reiterated, opening his eyes to meet Pietro's. "I'm not doing that to myself. You keeping that from me made me question everything, Pietro. It was the worst feeling. And don't worry. I'm still pissed as fuck at Tony, too." Johnny dropped his hand so he could move his arms around Pietro's neck instead. "But I love you and I want us to work. You just have to talk to me, okay? We can't be together or get married and start a future and a family together if you keep shit like that from me."

Pietro nodded fiercely, but his throat was too swollen with emotion to speak. It choked him, he couldn't breathe -- but when Johnny's eyes met his, a strangled noise escaped him. "Don't be," he said finally finding some kind of air. "Pissed at him. It was my idea, I asked him to do it. It was all my choice." If someone was going to take the responsibility for this, it was going to be him. He felt something slot into place when Johnny's hands latched around his neck. Both his hands came to his waist now, like they did when they were dancing. Or sleeping. Or standing near each other. Pietro had never been good about keeping his hands to himself, especially when it came to his сонечко. His fingers pressed against Johnny's skin while Pietro gathered his thoughts."The only person I ever used to talk to was my sister. And she could read my mind, so I didn't have much choice there," he murmured, letting out a slow breath. Achingly slow, for him. "But I'm choosing it now, okay? I'll tell you every stupid thought inside my head if that's what you want." He ghosted his lips near Johnny's jawline, pulling back enough to look him in the eyes again. "You would start a family with me?"

"Someone's following us. We need to lose them."

Pietro rolled his eyes and zipped in front of the older man. "You can't lose me. Literally impossible." He crossed his arms, somewhere between cocky and insulted by the very notion. Then a thought flashed across his face. "Besides. I wasn't following you, stupid. I was just. Walking behind you."

Johnny just looked at him for a moment, remaining silent when Pietro finally spoke. He chewed at the inside of his cheek, but his eyes never left his, even when Johnny wanted them to. "Pietro," he started with a sigh, not sure what he even wanted to say. Well, no. He knew what he wanted to say, but he was scared of getting hurt like that again. "I want that, too," was what he eventually said, pushing himself off the arm of the couch so he could walk over to him. "I want you here. I want us to be an us. But that's what this is and I need you to understand that—it's a second chance and the last chance. That's all you're getting," Johnny met his gaze again and shook his head. "I'm not being hurt like that again, Pietro. There's not going to be a third time."

"I know," Pietro said quietly. His eyes twinged, and the ache behind them was so painful he wanted to scream, but he kept his gaze on Johnny's. It would've been easy to freeze there, would've been easy to shut down and turn to stone. Hydra had taught him how to do that when it hurt. How to ignore it until it didn't exist. But Johnny had taught him how to feel it. How to feel every burning longing, every swelling high, every bone crushing low. He felt it all at once now, so much that he didn't know where they were on the roller coaster, just that it was racing faster and faster. Were they falling or flying? Was he weightless or so heavy he'd sink to the floor? "I won't need a third time. I won't," he insisted, reaching out and taking Johnny's hand by instinct. Their fingers entwined set the world back on its axis, slowed it all down, steadied his pulse. Gave Pietro a center, an up, a down, a gravity to orient himself by. A magnetic field to draw him in. He shuffled a little closer, brought his other hand to Johnny's waist. "I'll spend the rest of my life proving it to you."

"I mean, yeah. He's doing it on purpose. You're an asshole and deserve it." Sam patted his shoulder, while also giving him a gentle shove in the process. She gave him a don't fuck this up look and turned to walk in the other direction.

Sam was in the common area of the Avenger tower the next day and raised a brow when her best friend walked in. "Morning." She smirked and took her coffee mug in hand. "So, you didn't come back to my place last night—Thank God," she teased, leaning back against the counter. "Y'all good?" Sam leaned over and poked at the obvious mark on his neck that she knew he was probably on-purpose not making an attempt to hide. "Because if that's not from him, I'll kill you."

Pietro plucked at the sportswear on his chest. "Who's shirt do you think this is? I don't buy stupid American brands," he smirked, stretching out his neck to show another mark. Then he zipped over, snatching the coffee from her hands and taking a sip, leaning on the counter beside her. "He gave me a second chance. A last chance," he said, looking over at her. "More than I deserve, but I'm not complaining. Now I just have to figure out how to prove I'm not a total asshole. Despite, obviously, the fact that I am."

"You're crushing me," he said, mumbled against some part of Pietro. Pietro's height mixed with his general bulkiness caused for an uncomfortable shift in trying to get comfortable—and somehow, he felt more comfortable than he had in months. He ran a hand through Pietro's hair, head tilting to press a kiss against his temple. But then Pietro spoke and the question made Johnny still. "Forgive you for almost making me wreck twelve times?" He questioned, but then let out a breath, long and drawn out, moving beneath Pietro so he could look up at him. Silently, his hand dropped down to his jawline, fingers ghosting along the sharp angles. "First, I think we need to fix this situation." He gestured towards them, putting his hand on Pietro's chest to gently push him off of him. "Because I'd like my dad to not see this headline in the morning." It took some readjusting of clothes and contorting himself back to the front seat. Once they were home, Johnny lead the way inside. He draped the shirt and suit jacket he'd never bothered to put back on over the back of the couch. With a sigh, he turned to Pietro, picking up their conversation like there hadn't been a solid ten minute pause to it. "I don't know if I do. I don't know if I forgive you. I don't think I can forgive you for lying to me for months, Pietro. I've tried. So much." Johnny sighed again and ran a hand through his blonde, now curling hair, before dropping it limp at his side. "Every time I try, I get more pissed about it. We were supposed to get married. We're supposed to be married right now, Pietro." Johnny looked up, finding the other's gaze, and continued, "I love you and I want us to move on from it. I want us to make this work again, but I don't think I can forgive that." He held his gaze for a moment longer, silently, before adding, quieter, "And if you can't accept that, then we might be wasting our time."

The silence was unbearable, even with the taste of Johnny on his lips, and the oh-too-familiar lingering tingle on his skin where his husband had touched him. Pietro used those sensations to ground himself, to keep himself from crawling out of his skin (or back into Johnny's lap). Until finally, finally -- Johnny spoke.

And there it was. The truth, laid out between them. Cold and brutal, but hot and passionate at the same time. Johnny's heat had always been like the sun, insistent but subtle, a burn that hit you slowly. That quiet burn, his whisper soft as smoke.

He didn't trust himself to speak at first. Stuffed his knuckles into his teeth to stop himself from blurting out something too quickly, too thoughtlessly. This was too important. "Good. I don't forgive me either," he said finally, lowering his hand before he drew blood. He let out a long breath. "And that's not some self-loathing фігня. That's just the truth. I don't forgive me, not yet. But I just want a chance." He paused just for a second. Kept his gaze steady on Johnny's even though it made something in his chest ache. " I've pissed away a lot of second chances in my life, but I want this one -- I want you, more than anything. So I want a chance to do it right, to make this up to you. To prove I'll never lie to you again. I don't know how, I don't have the first stupid idea how, but...." He trailed off, sucking in a deep breath. "I just want a chance, firefly. I don't want to call you 'Johnny,' and sleep on Wilson's shitty sofa, I want to be here. With you."

Johnny reached out to take Pietro's hand, but not a second later did he scrunch his nose as a crimson blush crept up his neck and to his cheek. "What the hell is wrong with you? Why are you like this?" He groaned, but led the way out nonetheless, hand-in-hand with Pietro. Of course, they only got about four minutes into the drive home, before Johnny took a serial-killer esque detour. Once off-road, he parked the car and unfastened his seatbelt, doing the same to Pietro's. "Do not open your mouth. Do not say a damn word," was all he said as he moved out of his seat and started pushing Pietro to the backseat. Leaning in to kiss him on the way back, he mumbled, "I hate you so fucking much, you have no idea."

Pietro didn't answer, but he had a feeling it was the same reason Johnny danced with those girls -- because they liked to drive each other crazy. No one had ever done that to him like Johnny, no one had known him well enough. But he knew every inch of Johnny's body, knew exactly where to touch, where to sigh, a messy kiss here, a lingering touch there... He was just getting to the good part, going agonizingly slowly just to rub in how stupid driving was, when Johnny took a sharp turn. Pietro arched a brow, but stayed focused on the task at hand. At least until Johnny reached down and pulled his head up from his lap, pushing him into the backseat. Pietro didn't fight it, just arched into the kiss. "If you're gonna kill me," he breathed against Johnny's lips. "At least let me finish what I started first."

Afterwards, slumped against one another, clothes twisted and tossed in random directions -- Pietro felt surprisingly still. Stiller than he'd been in weeks, Sam had threatened to nail his feet to the floor at one point. But now he was lying calm, tracing patterns on Johnny's back like they weren't contorted in the backseat. Like he was the most comfortable he had ever been. "Does this mean you forgive me?" he asked quietly, breaking the spell of silence.

Johnny made a noise when Pietro flipped them, hand coming up to brace himself, resting against the side of his head so he wouldn't completely crash into him. "Pietro," he said, softly, breathlessly against his lips. His hands slid up to rest against his chest, leaning in to meet his boyfriend—fiance? he had no idea at this point—and return his kiss. Johnny groaned and pulled back to look at him, not immediately replying to his demand. After a moment, and against his better judgement, he let out a breath. "I swear to God, you better be glad you're hot." Johnny stepped back, fixing his suit jacket. "Fine. But I drove." He smiled sweetly at him. "And it's a fifteen minute drive to the apartment. Give or take. Might be traffic." He turned on his heels to start towards the exit. "Sucks for you, huh."

That was the only way he ever wanted to hear his name said again. In Johnny's breathless whisper, equal parts exasperation and longing. Pietro's skin felt like it was on fire in the best way, like Johnny's touch had left scorch marks on his chest and he reveled in it. "Every day I am," he said, smirking lightly, biting his lip. He bit down harder as Johnny kept speaking, inhaling sharply. "Your smile is not so innocent, сонечко," he pointed out, tripping over his feet to follow. He remembered his own powers and zipped ahead to hold the door open. "Fine, fine. We'll go your way. Drive in your stupidly slow car, in stupid American traffic." He held his hand out for Johnny to take. "I have an idea of how to pass the time. There's a lot of ways for things to suck," he said, giving Johnny a very pointed look, eyes gleaming.

"Whatever," was her unbothered reply as she looked over at Johnny. "I mean, yeah. He probably is. And you're a dumb ass, so you deserve it." Sam sipped her drink, turning her attention back to Pietro. "Babes, seriously. He took you back. He's just having fun, so you need to stop with the broody asshole thing." She gave him the extra drink and said. "Fix your face. Or at least hide it."

Pietro scowled even deeper somehow. "Cука," he muttered, as she looked back at him. He took you back sent a dagger of ice through his chest, and he didn't even bother trying to hide it. "Why is it fun to torture me," he grumbled, taking the drink. He didn't even bother drinking it, just started to tap his fingers against the glass, over and over. Faster and faster. "I can't. You know that. He knows that. 'Broody asshole' is at least ninety percent of my personality, and it comes with the stupid face."
