Recently (24th of June, Wednesday) my home country Venezuela was hit by no one but two earthquakes of 7.2 and 7.5 of magnitude, according to the website Desaparecidos Terremoto Venezuela, around 70,000 people are still missing and there are 1,430 people dead and 3,238 injured confirmed by authorities. Many many many buildings have partially or completely collapsed and a lot of people are sleeping on the streets, many of them have lost all of their belongings, or worst, lost their families.
These twin earthquakes are ones of the most devastating that my country has ever seen in it's modern history, we were not prepare as a nation to face such tragery.
And yet, the response of solidarity within the country has been incredible and it brings me to tears to see how everyday day people, especially students and very young people, have organize to distribute food, water, clothes and more across the cities that have been most affected. There's still a lot people under the rubble and seeing groups of civilians taking people out, many times their own loves ones, with their own bear hands is very heartbreaking.
And so, we are in need of international solidarity more than ever. You can help by donating to:
- Hogar Bambi: "We are a private entity that provides shelter to babies, children and adolescents at risk" with the donations they're putting together and distributing kits with everything babies, children and teenagers affected may need (food, water, clothes, baby formula, cribs, you name it), they're also collaborating with the mexican rescue teams in the zones affected.
- Yummy rides: they're a big delivery food service in Venezuela that is helping people by giving free rides to hospitals and has now added a new feature in their app where locals can see the lists of things that collection centers are in need of and send the items they want to donate quickly with their delivery services.
Suma tu donaciĂłn y ayuda a quienes mĂĄs lo necesitan.
- Tinta Violeta: "Feminist collective: Loving support for women, LGBTIQ+ people, girls, boys and adolescents experiencing gender-based violence" they're giving free psychological held to everyone that may need it but especially to women. They also have organize a collection center where they're receiving donations. They would soon be distributing pads, tampons, diapers and that type of very needed hygiene products along with the donations that they have received.
Los dĂas 24 y 25 de junio de 2026, Venezuela fue sacudida por⊠Tinta Violeta necesita tu apoyo para En atenciĂłn de sobrevientes del doblet
Staying informed, checking on your venezuelan friends and busting posts like these is another small way you can help us. The donations are going to be needed for quite some time due to the magnitude of the catastrophe so, if you can't donate right now, do it tomorrow, just make sure you do it.
i stopped giving a shit about "legit" purchases of digital products after i spent $80 on the entire Dark Horse collection of Trigun/Trigun Maximum ebook mangas, learning that I only got access to reading them through a proprietary website ereader function, couldn't download them, and couldn't get a refund, and then literally only a year later, getting an e-mail stating that Dark Horse was shutting down that part of their company and I wouldn't even be able to read them anymore. Fuck that
Pirate shit. Don't feel bad for it. It's not "your fault" that artists, independent or otherwise, can't make a living. You downloading an album or ebook for free isn't the cause of the problem. The cause is capitalism, plain and simple, and pirating is a lucky loophole that companies are still trying to stomp out.
Iâd die on the hill that âstranger dangerâ is a deeply unhelpful mentality to have. âOoooh everyone is out to get me theyâre all gonna perpetrate harm thatâs actually more likely to come from someone I already know. I better never talk to anyone in my community who I donât already know, just to be safe. Iâm sure there are no other biases interwoven with this mentalityâ like oh my god human traffickers do not just randomly spawn in every parking lot. You donât have to go solo hitchhiking across the country but you also donât have to live in fear that every guy on the street is the knife man whoâs gonna get you. Like have situational awareness, yeah. But most of the time the guy on the street is not knife man heâs actually just a guy on the street and heâs probably pretty chill, and youâre driving yourself crazy by living in a constant state of unnecessary fear.
Like always safety comes first, especially if youâre in a marginalized group more likely to be targeted by random people around you. But thatâs different from stranger danger. I might even say that stranger danger is something that contributes to marginalized groups getting targeted by random people. Which strangers do you find distrust worthy? Why? Does vague distrust justify harmful actions in the name of self defense? Stranger danger draws everyone away from more important issues of safety (underlying bigotries, systemic injustices, abuse in the home, etc) and towards an amorphous boogeyman that has no solution, because itâs not the real cause or culprit.
Being asexual and racist is embarassing as fuck. Being racist at all is obviously embarassing as fuck but the amount of racism and especially antiblackness i have been seeing from asexuals recently is obscene.
One of the only asexual activists is Yasmin Benoit, a Black woman. She has raised so much awareness for the community. She was the first asexual person to lead Pride in London, she started the #thisiswhatasexuallookslike movement and is THE leading voice for the community.
And you all will celebrate international asexuality day on April 6th but we wouldn't even have that if she hadn't cofounded it.
Edit: why are you all too scared to repost this. Cmon. Be vocal about being against racism
I want you to write for pleasureâto play. Just listen to the sounds and rhythms of the sentences you write and play with them, like a kid with a kazoo. This isnât âfree writing,â but itâs similar in that youâre relaxing control: youâre encouraging the words themselvesâthe sounds of them, the beats and echoesâto lead you on. For the moment, forget all the good advice that says good style is invisible, good art conceals art. Show off! Use the whole orchestra our wonderful language offers us! Write it for children, if thatâs the way you can give yourself permission to do it. Write it for your ancestors. Use any narrating voice you like. If youâre familiar with a dialect or accent, use it instead of vanilla English. Be very noisy, or be hushed. Try to reproduce the action in the jerky or flowing movement of the words. Make what happens happen in the sounds of the words, the rhythms of the sentences. Have fun, cut loose, play around, repeat, invent, feel free.
being plural is so funny because iâll be watching from a backseat in my own mind as someone else wearing my face talks and interacts with people iâve known all my life, which would normally be horrifying but theyâre my brain homies so itâs chill
I've made this post a thousand times and I'll make it a thousand times more until I stop seeing people being ashamed for the crime of being creative and caring
Go ahead, make your OC the sibling/child/friend/whatever of an important canon character. Ship your OC with a canon character. Its fandom, its posts on social media/fanfic/fan art. Go for it, have fun, make up your own headcanons.
"They were a good person with good intentions and strong convictions and belief in doing the right thing. And because of that they deeply hurt people including people they were trying to protect" - is fantastic characterisation that too many people reduce to only one half of the equation
"They were a good person and people still died because they didn't put trust in anyone else" â is so fucking good but people don't fucking appreciate it
"They were a good person and they failed. Over and over again. They failed." â DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND HOW DELICIOUS THAT IS!?!?
I am on my hands and knees begging people to allow characters to be complex and flawed and not reduced down to "The Good Guy" and "The Bad Guy"
i hate that nonbinary people can't be, like, nonbinary.
whatever we do, we can't win. we can't be seen as actually nonbinary. people binarize us and often mock us or get aggressive or dismiss and ignore our nonbinaryhood or something else.
if we don't medically transition, we are "just cis trenders."
if we do medically transition, we are "just [binary trans] eggs."
we are "technically transmasc or transfem anyways" if we don't use these terms.
we are lumped together with binary trans men and trans women if we do use these terms. our nonbinaryhood is ignored or seen as some kind of "gender-lite."
we are aggressively pressured to disclose if we're AFAB or AMAB, TMA or TME, transmasc or transfem, "boy nonbinary" or "girl nonbinary." and if we refuse to answer, people get double mad at us and pick something for us anyways.
if we show the slightest hint of something that could be interpreted as binary gendered, we are immediately binarised.
if we put a lot of effort into looking the most ambiguous or androgynous or neutral, people still try to find something. and they become aggressive. people often EXPLODE [PT: explode] when they can't gender someone by glance.
our ways of expression are constantly mocked and ignored (like neopronouns, nonbinary-centering labels for gender and orientation, basically all things that are associated with nonbinary people).
but if we choose more typical ways of expression (for example, use "he/him" or "she/her" pronouns), people use it to ignore and dismiss our nonbinaryhood.
i am a SUCKER for characters who start out as copies of other characters but eventually become their own people, their own identities, completely different from who they once reflected
