In fact, she is currently writing her new book: Bye,Bye Back Pain, 9 Holistic solutions for Long Term Relief from Sciatica,Lumbago,Slipped Disc and Backache.
In the workplace, poor ergonomics reduces employee productivity and increases the risk of physical injury. While adopting and maintaining good ergonomics is partially up to the employee, employers can do several things to improve ergonomics in the workplace, including the following:
- Add anti-fatigue mats. When at work, employees must maintain a neutral body position while sitting or standing if they want to practice good ergonomics. However, standing for hours on end on a hard surface, such as concrete, actually increases employee risk of injury. To avoid this, employees should add anti-fatigue mats to each workstation. The soft, spongy nature of these mats makes them perfect for absorbing pressure produced by a standing worker.
- Alter monitor height. To reduce neck and eye strain, monitors must be placed at eye level and in front of each employee. Ideally, they should not have any need to look up, down, left, or right to view their monitor clearly. Further, employees should not squint their eyes to see their displays. This can be avoided by keeping light sources out of employees’ eyes and by minimizing contrast between the computer screen and the lights and colors around it.
- Place items close by. Since employees must maintain a neutral position when working, it’s essential that keyboards, mice, and other important items on the desk are within easy reach. When employees have to reach for their mouse or keyboard at an awkward angle, they lose their neutral positioning and are more likely to experience fatigue during the work day. For this reason, each employee’s desk must be arranged according to his or her movements and range.
