In France if you suffer from hair loss as a teenage girl and cannot afford a real hair wig the school will try and force you to go to class bald. The school will make you buy a chemotherapy turban, you will buy two different so that the school can choose which one they prefer and you will prove that they are chemotherapy turban and not hijab but once you wear it they will change their mind and say it looks too much like a hijab and insist on you going bald or buying a real hair wig that you cannot afford.

If your doctor makes multiple documents confirming that you suffer from alopecia because of stress and the medicine you have to take for your epilepsy and that wearing a bonnet or something is recommended for your mental health as you’re not ready to go out bald in high school as a teenage girl, instead of admitting they are wrong the school will accuse the doctor of lying and report him to the Ordre des Médecins (equivalent of the General Medical council). Your doctor will find himself asking you for a document stating that you are not Muslim in order to defend himself and prove that no he wasn’t colluding with you so you could wear a substitute for hijab.

In France if you are a North African nurse at a public hospital and wear a fabric surgical cap they will try to make you remove it because apparently it’s a hidden hijab. They will accuse you of going against secularism and when you’ll argue that they are discriminating you by assuming you’re Muslim for a surgical cap on your head they will change their angle and claim that you should wear nothing on your hair because you wear the same surgical cap in multiple bedroom which is unhygienic apparently (which is a bullshit argument cause you wear the same scrub/uniform in different bedrooms as well). They will go as far as claiming that disposable scrub caps (you know the thin papery ones?) are not okay to wear in a hospital even if you change it regularly. And then they will fire you for a lack of hygiene because you wear a surgical cap.

The teenage girl’s story is also not just about racism and Islamophobia it’s also about ableism as the girl is convinced that the real reason the school is trying to push her out is because she had an epilepsy crisis in class and nobody knew what to do and the school nurse was absent. Women generally understand the role that men and women play in patriarchy better than men generally do, and trans women in general understand the role that cis women, cis men, and ourselves play in cissexualarchy(? for lack of a better term) better than cis women and cis men generally do. i am very excited about the wpbl. i am excited because i believe that all women should have equal access and equal consideration in sport. and i do believe that the creation of the wpbl is a step towards that. i grew up watching baseball with my family, and i am excited at the prospect of women being recognized as athletes in baseball.

there are significant shortcomings in its creation. i want to support it because i believe that it is a first step in the right direction in baseball, not because i believe it is perfect in its current state. i don’t think it’s going to get to a more equitable state for anyone if we immediately give up on it for its shortcomings.

i don’t want anyone taking my initial hesitation to comment on a situation (wpbl’s treatment of trans atheletes) that i felt i didn’t have an appropriate amount of information to comment on to mean that i support trans exclusion in sports.

no one should support trans exclusion in sports.

trans women are women. trans women deserve an equal place in women’s sports, and in all areas of life. trans-exclusionary policies are evil, and they do nothing to protect cis women, who transphobes will nearly always toss aside the second they are done using them to justify transphobia.

all sports leagues should have trans inclusionary policies explicitly stated. i should have considered that a lack of one of these policies represents an implicit lack of trans inclusion.

We are the canaries in the coal mine, y’all. We, and trans kids, are the faces in the Overton window as it shifts to the right. Malign actors identified us as a useful wedge issue that they have leveraged to great success, to the point where multiple pluralities of Democratic voters think we shouldn’t be allowed to play with our sisters in women’s sports. They were able to do that because the average liberal is too fucking gullible and too fucking susceptible to propaganda and talking points about quote unquote fairness to see that the minority within their minority that they have never met or tried to meet or befriend is being crushed into powder and used to sandblast away their own rights, and while the leopards devour their faces they’ll pat each other on the back for their brave and principled incrementalism.

I cannot emphasize enough, now is NOT the FUCKING TIME to accept the status quo. If the WPBL does not allow transfeminine athletes to compete, DO NOT PLATFORM THEM and DO NOT SUPPORT THEM. Be a shrill hardline radical bitch for your trans sisters, because we need all the help we can get right now.

hi everybody<3 my ankle's been broken since november -- the good news is, my surgery is (finally) tomorrow!! so i should be all better in 9 months or a little less. the bad news is, being injured is expensive, and setting one's place up for postsurgical recovery is expensive, and it's rent time, and workman's comp is great but it is not quite making ends meet. i could use some help if anyone can spare. any little bit helps♥️ thank you
