are there a lot of valid criticisms to be made about FT? well duh obviously. however. do i think there are a ton of bad/inchorent criticisms that just stem from the fact that people want it to be a fundamentally different genre than what it is, and refuse to engage with it's actual themes and story goals? also yes
I love how everyone looks at natsu and almost collectively goes "yeah, that's a pan aro character right there."
Every time I hear someone can complain about
Natsu after the whole rewriting his book thing
There’s a little part of me that just keeps saying maybe Lucy didn’t know him quite well enough and messed up his intelligence and who knows what else
There’s my unfortunate head canon, cause I can’t get rid of it and I kind of believe it, but I kinda wish I didn’t
you can't convince me natsu isn't flirting with lucy every other episode, "i'm gonna save lucy and all of my friends"
alright pack it up
natsu dragneel
How did I forget the entire Wendy-gets-her-magic-drained-and-Natsu-has-to-stop-her-from-getting-kidnapped part of the magic games arc
The fact that nobody other than Lisanna actually believed Natsu when he talked about Igneel is such an overlooked part of his backstory. His father vanishes on him with no trace and every time Natsu tries to talk about him he’s immediately called a liar. Could not have been good for him
natsu dragneel please save america right now we need you
This started off as part of the Lucy Idol AU. Lucy and Natsu’s VAs have music careers so they have pipes. My research stopped at that sentence as I spiralled into a Band AU. The plot is rolling around in brain still.
i enjoy writing natsu oh shit I dropped the link to my fic as someone with a genuine passion for fighting and martial arts, and that's what kind of sets him apart beyond adventuring, beyond draconian lust for battle or whatever, natsu is just actually obsessed with martial arts sure, the rest of the guild enjoy a good brawl, but for the most part fighting is just a means to an end to protect the guild, to go on their wacky adventures
i find it so much more compelling when natsu has to reconcile with the fact that he could be getting his ass kicked and his family can be in danger but deep down he feels at home he doesn't have the insane prodigal talent of the s-class, shit he's nowhere near as talented as his brother, (not to say he doesn't have any natural talent just compared to those around him he's kinda average), but he has a genuine love for the game even more compelling is natsu actually having to grapple with his pride as a warrior or take the countless hand out power ups the plot gives him to save his family because he just wasn't strong enough to win without the stars aligning
he will take the hand out when he has to for the sake of the guild, always, but as a side effect he walks away from every fight secretly frustrated with himself beyond reckoning while everyone else is celebrating
all he wants to do is use his strength to protect everyone and he just keeps failing give him an ounce of that Goku DNA and suddenly you have a pretty great cocktail for interesting character writing
.5 seconds before Happy gets squished
i lowkey wish more people paid more attention to the fact that Lucy is shy af when it comes to romance like she shares the blame just as much as Natsu when it comes to why they're not together
glass cannon is objectively the sexiest build. you put down 10 enemies in one go and then need to be carried off the battle field the next round? so hot
almost got electrocuted earlier but thats okay cause i finished this
(im too scared to upload the other version of this)
Something about Natsu's stunted emotional life being the result of Never Being Able To Let Anything Go Ever. He can't stand change because he's still in the woods, lost and crying for Igneel, and accepting that things change means accepting that Igneel won't come back. Even now that Igneel's dead he keeps reliving it, and naive as he is he holds onto the tiny piece of hope that he'll get him back. That they'll go back and live like a family again, that all the change he lived through was a long strange nightmare.
And this emotional constipation also means that he can't fully comprehend the life that's happening around him. He has meaningful moments with the guild and with Lucy, but he's always a bit distant, like a soldier who never returned from the war.
