LOIS DICTATED HER WHOLE ARTICLE TO JIMMY AND YES IT WAS BECAUSE SHE WAS DRIVING A HOVERCRAFT BUT ALSO JIMMY ACTED LIKE THIS WAS BUSINESS AS USUAL™
CONCLUSION: LOIS LANE CAN’T SPELL FOR SHIT
we are so fucking back!!!
this is one of the hints that James Gunn and any other writer actually has read the comics and past movies bc it’s a thing that Lois does NOT know how to spell, like every article she writes has at least one or two misspellings lmao
James Gunn’s biggest strength is taking the most obscure and bizarre characters and making an audience fall in love with them. He literally brings out the worst in them, shows us why they’re the way they are and then rehabilitates them for the viewers by focusing solely on their life. It’s so unique.
I was wondering how he’d apply this method to someone as colossal and well know as Superman but he’s managed to use the same technique, making a character that’s too big and grandiose for an audience to relate to… relatable. And he did this without losing his “super” side. He just honed into his humanity, especially while he was in “super” mode.
The first gem of this working? The fucking intro. I sat up straight when it went from “3 centuries ago…” to “3 minutes ago, Superman just lost his first fight.” Wow. Finally. An unexpected beginning for a very predictable character.
Then? The scene between Lois and Clark. The sheer helplessness of someone like Superman against twisted words meant to goad and frustrate. Don’t we all deal with the exact same things on an almost daily basis? Not only is this Lois critical of Superman but also willing to tell him as much. Plus, she isn’t sure if she loves him while knowing that he, someone a majority of the world would give anything to be with, definitely loves her.
Then!!! They show him fight a Kaiju-esque creature with only the intention to knock it out. I mean, he sucker punches it and then rushes to stop it from falling on a building full of people… then he saves a squirrel. What in the Superman is going oooon 😭
THENNN!!!!!!! They show us his parents. His gorgeous GORGEOUS midwestern-ass, delicate lil normal looking parents in their tiny farm house calling their son, proud of his writing and terrified for his life. More than anything else, they made me see who Clark Kent was and why his Superman was so precious about every kind of life. This dorky, self-conscious, overthinking, frustrated, emotional, but-will-still-not-curse Superman is a gem. Clark is a gem.
Plus, David’s acting is phenomenal. Yes yes his switch up from Superman to Clark is cool but more than that? The frustration in every line of his face when he talks to Lois, the exasperation whenever Krypto is around, the sheer delight at writing his article and getting it published on the front page, the desperation to find his cousin’s pet, the agony of being around Kryptonite, the most genuine and wholesome earnestness that literally CARRIED the movie…
Sigh. I’m officially a Superman fan and it’s because of the writing, direction, and acting in this comic-accurate portrayal of Clark-you-clumsy-oaf-Kent.
Arguably, the best part of Superman for me was how direct it was in what they were trying to say, especially right now.
It is more than just "good vs. evil", there is literally *zero* defense for the evil. The main villain is the CEO of a weapons company operating privately with multiple governments, and his entire rationale for doing what he does is because he's so insanely xenophobic that he'd rather see the world burn than see Superman simply exist. The country he's funding is literally invading another country under the guise of "saving them" where in reality, the president explicitly says he wants them all dead. And the US is allied with them for no other reason in that they help line their pockets. God, how I've missed villains like that, especially ones who reflect the ones we see in real life.
And on the good side of things, Superman simply wants people to live freely and happily, including himself. That's it. There's no "secret fucked up moral" that he has, nor is there a "secret good side" to Lex. It's just "here is a good person, and here is a bad person", and it has still managed to immensely piss a certain group of people off.
Overall, I think this film's message succeeds and does it well. And it just feels even more worthwhile when the main character is quite literally an "immigrant alien" himself. I really hope James Gunn gets to lead more superhero projects in the future, because I've been enjoying all of them so much.
But yeah. Go watch this film. Nicholas Hoult the actor that you are.
!!! You get it!!
A lot of movies get critiqued for being too “in your face” and telling rather than showing, but I feel like Superman (2025) managed to be in your face without being annoying about it
Like it tells you exactly what’s happening and why, but it doesn’t necessarily tell you how to feel. Instead it sets everything up to make you (a sane, or at least moral, human being) feel the way it wants you to. Which, honestly, isn’t much more than just replicating what’s happening irl
It gives you every character’s motive, it gives you their plans, it shows you the relationships, all without being obnoxious about it
I also think that fact is maybe reflective of superman’s character; he’s an open book, in almost every way, and so the movie is also an open book (well… open script?)
I mean yeah we can yassify Lex Luthor and talk about hes sooo gay for Superman.
Or MAYBE we can talk about how Lex Luthor in Superman (2025) is a clear parallel for Musk, and the president of Borovia is a parallel for Trump, in what was clearly a commentary on billionaires and their role in war politics that was written before but now feels more apt because of recent events.
Maybe we can talk about how the "where's the dog" scene mimics the way conservatives (and terfs, too) provoke the people they don't like into an emotional reaction so they can seem like the one being "reasonable."
Maybe we can talk about how the story Luthor spun about Superman "grooming" the people of earth is just like the way conservatives frame immigrants and the queer community to fearmonger.
Maybe we can about the guy in Luthor's war room who changed his mind and pointed Mister Terrific to the right computer, saving minutes that saved lives.
Maybe we can talk about how Eve, an abuse victim, helped save the day with one small act of rebellion that seemed frivilous or useless until Lois looked deeper.
Maybe we can talk about how Lois's superpower is research and investigation and journalism to uncover the truth behind the media facade luthor put up.
Maybe we can talk about how Superman's greatest power isn't his strength or his brain but his Kindness, and how much he cares about every creature great and small, and how that care inspired Element Man to reach for the goodness within himself and do the right thing.
All my love and respect to the people who do ship them, ship and let ship is a rule I live by. I'm just amazed that none of the things that I truly love about this film made it onto my dash before I saw it for the first time tonight. And I wanna talk about them, because I think more people need to hear about them
both are good imo but yeah especially/even if you’re not into dc at all or any of these characters it’s still a movie worth watching and/or talking about because of the social and political aspects of it
it’s almost, possibly, a political satire more than it is a superhero movie
my first superman fanart… what do y’all think? 👀

Been thinking about how the new Superman movie did a really good job of giving Clark interests beyond “Truth, Justice, and a Better Tomorrow.” He likes pop punk rock. His favorite meal is breakfast for dinner. Clark does a little dance when he gets the front cover byline. He likes to doom-scroll. Unclear if he’s a dog guy. His girlfriend makes him hot cocoa when he’s sad. So often Superman in film has zero personality beyond tortured alien that must guide humanity. Giving him these small details made the character feel so much more real. He really is just a guy doing his best.
a lot of superman media seems to forget that up until he was 18 or so, he was just clark. just a human boy/man living with his adoptive farmer parents in rural kansas. he didn’t grow up as superman, he grew up as little goofball clark.
that’s why giving him personality as clark, not just superman, is incredibly important not just to make him feel more real but to call back to the fact that he did not grow up knowing he would become so special, which makes it easier for him to be as selfless as he is
It's punk to be a good person 🦸🏻
This is so stupid I’m so sorry
i LOVE this little chibi version of clark. look at his little fuck ass teeth. little nerd looking ass. such an idiot. i love him.
kids deserve so much more respect and it turns out that saying that is a great way to locate the horrible people in any community <3
you'll say something as simple as "no child deserves to be hit" and people will crawl out of the woodwork to explain why they should be allowed to beat a 6 year old for spilling some water
you'll say "i think it's weird that adults literally have control over when children are allowed to use the bathroom" and up pops a teacher to say that when they're not shouting at the kids they teach, they're trying to stop them from hiding in the bathrooms
you'll say "i think children shouldn't be forced to eat food they hate" and here comes someone who feeds their kids plain rice and boiled chicken (while eating a nicely seasoned stirfry) claiming that it's okay actually and kids shouldn't be allowed to taste things
you'll say "i think kids should have bodily autonomy" and in comes someone who pierced their babies ears before it was even 24 hours old, frothing at the mouth because their kid wanted a haircut and thats somehow an insult
children are an oppressed class and everyone should be looking back at their own childhoods and making sure they don't ever make a child feel the same way they felt.
a lot of people forget that kids have personalities, often ones different thank their parents’
like sure maybe your kid is just being annoying and picky, or maybe they’ve tried a food and simply don’t enjoy it. or maybe they’re just not in the mood for something new.
maybe your kid is going through a phase and is gonna regret dying their hair—so what? it’ll grow out.
adults that don’t listen to kids’ interests or advice or opinions or generally don’t give any respect to kids don’t deserve any respect of their own. like yes they’re inexperienced humans but they’re still humans.
