An open letter to my fellow people regarding the election
Ever since this election process started, the people have been on edge. Uncertain, they’ve either attacked one another or flee their homes.
Ever since election day, the violence and fleeing have increased dramatically. There is panic amongst the people.
Ever since I first looked at all forms of social media during and after the election, there have been posts of support, hatred, and total disregard of those who have legitimate concerns.
Ever since all of this, I’m concerned for my future, along with my fellow people who reside in the same country as I.
Ever since, I’ve been afraid for my country, not of it.
Ever since I’ve been skeptical of those who hold power in our nation.
Ever since I’ve been prepared for the worst while hoping for the best.
Ever since I’ve given this some thought.
For a while now, I’ve been doing my best to spread positivity throughout the world, no matter how sizable my contributions end up being. However, I realize that I alone am not enough to do this for the entire world. I can only do this in my location physically and hope that it spreads through the internet through all the trolls and the crowding of others. Despite this, I know what I can do; I can lead others through example. Again, this is only effective around me and may or may not spread through indirect means, but it’s not stopping me.
It’s come clear to me that I need, and in some cases already have, to become a beacon of hope. The negativity, the darkness surrounding us, while we cannot completely eliminate it, we must be able to light it up as much as we can. Fighting each other isn’t going to truly solve anything. WE, as a people, must do this together for each other, not just ourselves.
It’s alarming how quickly so many people have taken up hatred and malice. While it may give one instant results, those two things will not carry anyone far. In the end, it is love and kindness that will take one where they wish to go. Keep in mind, this will take time, but patience is rewarded. Time and time again I’ve seen those who harness hatred fall quickly and those who harness love rise above all things thrown at them. Those who’ve given into the darkness inside of themselves only keep hurting themselves. Those who go into the light, while they may need a pair of shades to navigate it, heal themselves. When will people learn?
My heart aches for this next thought. It pains me to even say it to myself, but someone has to say it; Many people who have given into their darkness are not ready to be saved. Harsh? I agree. However, just because I give out my hand for them to grasp doesn't mean they will take it. Some will, some will ignore it, and some will swat it away. That being said, for those who aren’t ready to be saved, for those who aren’t willing to put in the effort to give up their hatred, it becomes a painful waiting game.
Now that I have explained my thoughts, I have one thing I will ask of you. For some, this might be too much, for others, it will be easy. Please, give up the hate. Conquer the darkness in your hearts. Become a beacon for those around you as well as for yourself. We cannot trust those in power to do this for us, whether their intentions are good or not. We need to become beacons become accustomed to the light, to the positive energy. Let’s not have fear take over us. We cannot afford to have panic take over. There is no fault for being afraid, angry, or even happy with the results. Each one of us feels different and that’s okay. What isn't’ okay is going to war over it. Let’s get through this, together.
