Attention universe BATTLESTAR GALACTICA IS NOW ON PARAMOUNT+
hang on i'm gonna cry a little thinking abt how g-d promised avraham that his descendants would be as numerous as the stars in the sky and now among millions of descendants there are thousands who literally carry his name, go up to the torah as b'nei avraham v'sarah. that's our mom and dad!
wanna cry a little more? think about how Avraham and Sarah both had trouble believing they could have a child at their advanced age, and then think about how many many centuries later they are still having children who carry their name.
I am SO mad about how much good content gets cut from the American versions of the episodes
Love that Call the Midwife is now in the early 70s because the music is IMPECCABLE
Dr Patrick Turner from call the midwife is one of the most whumpable men in television hear me out:
Weāve got:
-War Neurosis that itās implied heās never properly dealt with
-tendency to place othersā needs over his own
-does not have great work/ home boundaries
-lots of other trauma that the show writers seem to forget about often (um⦠Timothyās polio, train crash, thalidomide, his first wifeās death, the WAR??? Just to name a few)
-is a very good doctor that canonically makes a very bad patient (S4ep5 hello)
Adding on to this:
We were cheated out of what could have been a perfect whumpy domestic sick Dr Turner episode in the 2024 Christmas special š
Just watched the 2024 Christmas Special of āCall the Midwifeā and I actually think itās the only episode of this show that I have genuinely disliked .
Like why do we have 7 different sub plots with no relation to one another that are not actually that interesting?
Also we could have had a fantastic Dr. turner with the flu storyline and yet all we got was him (maybe?) going home with a fever and then reappearing 10 minutes later to check on Reggie with no indication that he had ever even been sick?
Like why introduce that plot thread only to do nothing with it?
This might actually be the thing that makes me write a Turnadette fic to give myself the hurt/comfort character content that the episode cheated us of⦠not sure if there even an audience for it but thatās never stopped me beforeā¦
Things I love about Call the Midwife Season 13:
Milicent and Phyllis sapphic power couple and their adopted daughter Nancy
Dr Turner being a tired dad
Big brother Timothy with his stupid haircut
Joyce and Rosalind and Nancy being besties
The moon landing and the amount of joy it brought sister Monica Joan
The fact that there is a BEACH EPISODE
Cyril and his cat
Fred being a GOAT as usual
Everything about Reggie always
Things I did not like:
Matthew and Trixieās marriage lmao
Lucille being written out of the narrative also rip

Sometimes family is a bunch of woke nuns; a revolving door of midwives that includes a give-no-fucks spinster and her give-no-fucks administrator sapphic situationship, an unlucky in love bisexual disaster and her gay brother and an Irish baddie and her bastard child; an ex-nun turned midwife, her doctor husband and their 4 children, one of who is a doctor in training who somehow completely recovered from polio with no lingering difficulties; the nunsā and midwivesā handyman, his mayor/haberdasher wife and their adoptive son and the social worker ex-husband of one of the ex-midwives who lives above the haberdashery with his cat
"ER star Noah Wyle: Why Iām playing a Jewish doctor in The Pitt"
...āMaking him Jewish was a joint decision that came out of a conversation with [former ER showrunner] John Wells when we were figuring out what we wanted this new show to be. John asked me about my family who were Ukrainian, so Russian Jewish, and the name was Robinavitch. He suggested calling him Robby, which is a nice homage.ā
And in my early twenties, I met a fascinating Israeli rabbi with whom I did a weekly learning for a few years. I was curious, this guy was bright and the debates were engaging.
āBut it is fair to say itās my 10-year-old daughter whoās expressed the most desire to pick up the mantle of Judaism. It is through her and the show, that I feel Judaism now has more relevance to my life than ever before. Her batmitzvah is booked, and she helped me with my pronunciation of the Shema.ā

Rutger Hauer as Etienne of Navarre in Ladyhawke (1985).
okay i am currently deranged from ladyhawke (1985) and i will not recover for maybe the rest of my life but the main thoughts right now are that
a) it's been a long time since i've seen a fantasy movie where the stakes actually matter to the protagonists without necessarily relying on the charisma of a big bad (the bishop is there yeah but killing him isn't going to solve the problem) and the tragic love story is actually tragic
and b) it's nice to have a medieval-inspired movie that plays around with religion in a way that feels kind of accurate to the period, in the characters of mouse and imperius (imperius ilu)
and c) i really hope no horses were harmed in the making of this film because damn the jousting on those flat slippery church cobbles would be MURDER on hooves even though it was gorgeous to look at
and d) oh my god navarre is the hottest fantasy hero i have seen since viggo mortensen's aragorn which is saying a lot but also that entire final sequence in the church killed me actually and i need it injected into my veins because there's nothing better than a guy fighting desperately for his own death because his heart has been broken while looking so um. like That
ladyhawke is an incredible artifact of the 80s because itās a gorgeous story about this strange fairy tale tragedy but it also stars matthew brodrick looking pretty much exactly the same as he does in ferris bueller doing an egregious amount of monologing and itās accompanied by a soundtrack that occasionally uses a diabolical amount of synth for a live action movie ostensibly set in pseudo-medieval France
Omfg I'm 3 episodes into SG-1 and i love Daniel so much. I may not truly understand whats going as i havent seen the film or prior tie-in series but Daniel is so cute.
When he got blown backwards and hit against the wall, knocking him out š¤Æš„³š¦ so many whump-flies!
I cant wait for more whump. Should there be any epiosde i keep my eye out for?
I need fics in-between episodes. I'm assuming you know plenty of whumpy Daniel fics? I'm not too bothered by spoilers for later episodes/series š
Aahhhh!!!! Nonny I'm so excited for you!!!! Getting to watch Stargate for the first time!!! I hope you're enjoying it!! It's my favorite show and Daniel is my all time favorite character. He's a big reason why I got my degree in history. He's also the greatest whumpee and is quite literally the reason why we call it "whump" (the stargate and daniel whump fans coined the word for it)
If you started with the episode Children of the Gods (1x01) then you only missed the original Stargate movie from 1994. The show Stargate SG-1 came out in 1997 as a spinoff/continuation of the movie. You don't have to but I definitely recommend watching the original film. It'll bring a lot more context to Jack and Daniel's relationship with each other and how the Stargate program began. So the viewing order for everything (as it aired) is the 1994 movie, Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis (which started around s8 of sg1), Stargate Universe, and then Stargate Origins came out as a mini web series after the rest was out. It's technically a prequel but it can be watched whenever and doesnāt matter that much to the storyline.
In the meantime I can give you a quick low down on the movies plot so you cam enjoy the show more. So in the original movie, the Gate was discovered during an archaeological dig in Giza in the 1930s and the government has been trying to figured out what it is since. Daniel Jackson, who has become a pariah in the archaeological community for his theories that aliens built the pyramids is recruited by a woman named Catherine Langford, the daughter of the archaeologist who first found it in the 1930s, to translate the symbols on the gate. Daniel manages to figure out that the gate symbols were constellations and translates the writing on the cover stone. Enter Jack O'Neil. When Daniel tries to get details about the cover stone he keeps being told its classified but after translating the hieroglyphs he's shown the gate and they get it running. He joins Jack and his team through the wormhole. They arrive on a planet called Abydos and find the gates dialing device but are unable to locate the address to return home. Jack and Daniel find a nearby village and befriend the villagers. Daniel ends up falling in love with a woman named Sha're (long story) and Jack befriends a teen named Skaara. They learn the people are slaves of a god named Ra. Ra shows up. Theres a battle. Daniel dies for the first time and is revived through the use of a sarcophagus. It's revealed that this mission was a suicide mission and Jack had brought a bomb. Jack agreed to the mission because he was distraught over his son's death (his son had accidentally shot himself with Jack's service revolver). Well, they end up killing Ra, freeing the Abydonians, and finding the chevrons needed to go home. Daniel opts to remain on Abydos because he and Sha're have fallen in love. Jacl and the others return home.
Okay I'm rambling now but you opened up a can of worms asking about my all time favorite show and whumpee lol š
I'm so glad you love Daniel!!! Daniel is the best!! And you are I'm for a real treat in terms of whump. He's literally famous for how much he's injured and how often he dies lol. These episodes have some of my favorite Daniel whump:

Added bonus number 2: I actually made a list of all the time Daniel "dies" is you wanna check that out: https://stargatelover.tumblr.com/post/162019628086/daniel-jackson-deaths
Lol okay this turned into a comprehensive post on Daniel Jacksom whump and I donāt regret that at all. Enjoy!
I was today years old when I found out that this nerd was the origin of whump
Star Trek is when every planet in the universe looks like rural California and Stargate is when every planet in the universe looks like Rural British Columbia
Just have to remind everyone that this is Benedict being TORMENTED by the fact of not being with Sophie š
Medieval lovesickness trope fr
battlestar galactica is without exaggeration the best show ever but only about seven people know this
