My roots are not deep. I have ripped myself apart again and again. Spread my seeds in different directions. Tried different climates, soils. But while they are shallow, they are experienced. They have tasted both abundance and absence. I have survived in all environments, and now I will allow myself to rest without fear that one day I may not flourish. I will just allow myself to grow, no matter how tall or short that may be. And as I grow, my roots will dig deeper, and the wind will not feel as dangerous. I will be rooted, both in the ground and in myself. I am rooting.Â

You donât remember when you first fell in love with Shoto Todoroki, but you did you know itâs been a long ass time. However, the joys of your âsecret infatuation â were soon going to end.
Everything about him made your heart beat a little bit faster, made your cheeks that little bit pinker. Everyday, youâd sit at your desk, just trying to stop your eyes from drifting over to him. Occasionally, your eyes would meet, which would cause you to practically combust, immediately looking at whatever crap was on your desk. [Little did you notice how his gaze would rest on you for a couple seconds longer.]
You've always liked him from a distance, never getting too close, never letting your hopes get too high, but someone was about to ruin that for you...
The bell rang, waking you up from your daydream as you shot up out of your desk. While you made your way down to the cafeteria, a familiar scent caught your attention. Shotoâs cologne, warm and expensive. It wasnât strong, but it was distinct, you knew it was him. Shoto always walked behind you when you went for lunch. You didnât think anything of it. You picked up your food and headed to the table where Ochako and Tsuyu were sitting. Izuku and Tenya were absorbed in a deep conversation, discussing something you werenât bothered to understand. Shoto sat down beside you, as he did everyday without fail. Something you had always written off as a coincidence, something you always tried not to make a big deal out of, no matter how much you wanted to.
His presence beside you made you warm. Butterflies grew in your stomach as you glanced over at him.
âI donât think thatâs how it works.â He chimed into the conversation.Â
Whenever he spoke, everyone listened. Whenever you heard his voice, your heartstrings would play a melody as the  butterflies would dance, only growing even more.Â
You were just about to eat when you noticed a pile of soba noodles now resting on the side of your plate. You looked up at Shoto, almost as to ask why, but he just kept eating. He did that every now and then, offer you some of his food, hand you an energy drink after training. But still, you knew better than to get your hopes up. [Little did you see the slightest smile grow on his face as you tucked into the noodles.]
As per usual, you all headed back to class to spend the last 10 minutes of break relaxing. Until you heard your name mentionedâŠ
âDid you notice Todoroki acting all heroic yesterday saving y/nâŠâ Bakugo laughed, arms crossed, face smug.
Yesterday, a group of villains had appeared while on a class trip. Everyone was separated. You were in a group with Iida, Shoto and Sero. You were running to help guide civilians safely away when you fell, gliding across the rough tarmac. And in that split second, while your back was turned, the villain saw an opening. One of his hands holding a knife, stretched out, aiming for you.Â
Shoto noticed, and couldnât stop himself from freezing villain solid (at the sight of him attacking you). He ensured the civiliansâ safety while  protecting you in the process, however it wasnât exactly the best way to go about it and definitely not like Todoroki to be that impulsive. There was a better way to stop the villain, a safer way, but Todoroki just couldnât stop the ice from building
Strangely no one had mentioned the event, until now.Â
You glanced over at Shoto, but he seemed to have ignored his words, too engrossed in his book. But once Bakugo brought up the subject, everyone started talking about the incident.Â
Kirishimaâs voice piped up, âYeah actually, donât you think Todoroki has been acting kind of weird latelyâŠâ
âYeah heâs been all flustered but heâs normally so composed.â Ashido adds, and soon, the whole class isnât talking about the event, but Shotoâs strange behaviour.Â
You never even noticed heâd been acting strange, despite you being the one to pay the most attention to him.
âWell obviously itâs because he likes y/n.â Denki says, although not realising how loud he said it, and the whole class falls silent
Shoto is now a bright red colour. Unable to move. Not daring to look up despite everyoneâs eyes glued to him. Youâve never seen him like this. So affected by someoneâs words.
But you didnât have time to think about that, let alone digest Denkiâs words. Did you hear him correctly, you couldnât have, if it was true, how could you not even notice. How was this possible.Â
You could feel your cheeks burning, the butterflies growing, your heart almost beating out of your chest. Your mind was frantically going over all your interactions together, but you still couldnât grasp it. Yet hearing those words, almost made you melt, even if they werenât from him. Just hearing the one thing thatâs been constantly on your mind, out loud, warmed your heart. A small smile tugged at your lips.
Meanwhile, everyone is shook. Like their mouths open, agape, speechless. It was like as if they heard Bakugo had apologised for something. The last person they wouldâve guessed to have ~heart eyes~ was Todoroki. His calm demeanour, his nonchalant attitude, they couldnât imagine him being in love.Â
Everyoneâs eyes turn to Denki.Â
âDenki are you sure you didnât electrocute something earlierâŠâ Bakugo says.
Denki is looking around, suddenly dumbfounded. He thought this was common knowledge. That everyone was aware of it but just didnât talk about it in case you heard. You were just as clueless as Shoto, so it didnât surprise him you hadnât figured it out by now.Â
In response, Denki points to Shoto, who has now reduced to a bright pink, blushing statue of embarrassment, internally freaking out and regretting every decision heâs ever made.
And at that, Denki rests his case and sits down, going back doodling on the side of his notebook.
Murmurs start growing louder.
You can hear your name in multiple different conversations.
âWait, does that mean you all didnât know she likes him back either?â
Your heart dropped.Â
Your breath quickening.Â
Your eyes are now on Denki (who you could literally strangle right now), whoâs standing up once more with a confused look on his face.
âYou serious?â Kirishma responds, and internally Denki is like âare you all blind, they literally flirt with each other all the timeâŠâ
Just at that moment, while everyone is in utter and complete shock for the second time today, Mr.Aizawa comes in to put you out of your misery.

( After class )
You ran out of that class as fast as possible, avoiding everyoneâs questions and stares. A burst of fresh air calms you as you walk outside. You couldnât focus, Denkiâs words ringing in your ears every second of that class, even now. You couldnât imagine Shotoâs reaction, what is he thinking, what will he do; will he ignore you, pretend it didnât happen-
You smell something, and your heart almost leaps out of your chest.Â
Shotoâs cologne.
âCan we talk?â His voice calm.
You turn around to him. His hair disheveled, his eyes heavy with lack of sleep. Something pulling at your seams as you look at him, making you want to just crash into his arms. Your eyes glide over his mouth, thinking how easy would it be to press your lips against his. You felt vulnerable, now that your secret was exposed, you felt needy.
âOf course.â you offer him a smile.
âItâs true. What Denki said, what everyoneâs saying. Itâs true. I like you y/n.â
He looks at the ground, his foot tapping awkwardly which you find adorable. Your heart begins to swell and you canât stop a smile from forming.Â
âI like you too, Shoto.âÂ
His eyes once again find yours, a childish grin on his face as he walks closer to you.Â
âI like you too y/n.â
âYou already said that Sho.â You laugh at him, but he just looks at you with a confused pouty face.
âBut that doesnât mean I canât say it again?âÂ
Shoto and you walk back to the dorm together (taking the long route), the two of you unable to stop smiling. Itâs not awkward at all, the conversation flows easy, and honestly you never want it to end. You never want to stop looking into his eyes, to stop listening to him talk about the book he was just reading or the villain he was fighting. You only just said âi like youâ but you never want to say goodbye. Once you reach the dorm, he makes sure your knees (that you scraped yesterday while falling) are treated and patched up.Â
You take a deep breath and walk into the dorm together,
and of course, just as expected, itâs c h a o s, everyone is asking what happened, whatâs the deal, was Denki right, the room is filled with noise and laughter
and youâre happy, because Shoto is right there by your side. (despite the fact that Denki was the match maker/mastermind/ruined your whole plan of actually confessing to Sho <3)

You and Shoto liked eachother, but neither of you had confessed/realised the others emotions.
Shoto always goes to eat lunch with you, even offering you some of his soba. When you almost got hurt in an attack with a villain, he couldn't stop himself from freezing them solid to protect you. Any time you even look him in the eye, he gets flustered and looks away to try and hide his blushing.
THEN everyone in class slowly realises somethings off, and are like "why is Todoroki acting so weird, he's usually so composed?"
And of course, the only one in the class to catch it is Denki...
He'd look up from whatever weird ass thing he'd be doing and be like "well it's obviously because he likes them..."

and everyone is like -shook- that of all people, Todoroki is the one with ~heart eyes~, and of all people, it was denki who figured it out
and he's just looking at everyone like...did nobody else know this...i thought everyone knew...damn and yall thought i was the dumb one...
meanwhile Shoto would be like frozen. speechless. unable to move. Internally he'd be FREAKING OUT of course because Denki just told everyone his secret, just told you the one thing he tried to hide
While Denki would just go back to fiddling with his pen or monching on something
You would probably try to pretend you didn't hear it... but Todoroki knew you did
Although inside, your heart was pounding, and you were delighted. Delighted that he liked you. Delighted that Denki didn't spill on you as well...
"Did none of you know that she likes him back either? Seriously!?"
