i like to think about jabber texting zanka to tell him cryptic things because zanka hits harder when he's a little scared
jabber: sometimes i get worried
zanka: ????about???
and no reply comes for the rest of the day and the next time they talk jabber doesn't even remember sending that message (or just acts like he doesn't)
Okay since we're talking about Jabber's sadomasochism
Imagine a scenario where Jabber gets truly attached to Zanka and close to him. Jabber never cared that Zanka wasn't a masochist because why would he? But when they start getting closer, Jabber starts getting scared Zanka will leave him because he likes seeing Zanka in pain while Zanka doesn't enjoy being in pain. But Zanka accepts the pain that comes from their fights since it's a given, so maybe he'd be able to eventually like it?
Thus begins Jabber's journey to manipulate Zanka into becoming a masochist without pushing him away (and secretly enjoying Zanka's suffering from his manipulation). It's okay though. Soon enough they'll be on truly equal footing and Zanka won't leave him
i do wonder though how much of jabber’s combat skill is actually natural talent & how much of it is years of practice with mankira
zanka immediately tacks the label of “natural” on him in their first fight but like. i’m of the opinion that while jabber has a very strong jinki it’s more of his intelligence in combat that makes him as strong as he is, with or without his toxins!! mankira has an advantage of being a worn weapon, but that means jabber would have had to learn how to flow with her in a fight over time + learning to infuse poison + her second form activating
ofc some of these could be intuition but i love the idea of a jabber who sees the same fighting grit that he had in zanka as well as some of that same intelligence
Useless late night ramble as I'm scrolling for a fic to sleep to but
I really like janka's dynamic, right? That sort of tension and ego and all that
But so often I see comics and fics being like "jabber loved zanka so much he gave one of his rings" and I'd just like to say
THIS WOULD NOT HAPPEN!!
Nope, sorry, you CANT convince me.
Is it cute? Sure. I'm not saying the people who write/draw/like this envision of their dynamic can't, I just can't help but imagine how ooc it is every time I see it
Nowadays their dynamic has been smudged a tad to be like "bratty scared sub fears the love of the excitable flirty possessive dom" but I think a big reason I like the ship is the fact they're kind of equals, y'know?
They contrast as people with mentalities of "effort vs talent" and "low self esteem fights someone full of themself on equal footing" where lines of who has the upperhand begin to blur add to the fact they both are (despite what zanka says) sure of their own abilities.
They're both cocky in their own ways. Egotistical, and annoyed the other is, too.
I think they put high value (or pride?) in their own strength, if anything.
But this, coupled with the fact that instruments are meant to be 'objects so sacred to someone they become weapons', it just feels a bit weird to imagine jabber deciding to give up his rings. (And why him only..?)
I think, in the scenario they were somehow dating, I think they both (as givers) would understand the importance of an instrument. Of its sacred and sentimental nature. I think they would understand 'ah, I wouldn't want someone messing with mine, so I won't mess with his out of respect'. It's like a literal piece of them, y'know? They put so much pride in themselves, giving it up to prove love?? Feels kinda ooc
Like when a woman with a love in her passion gives that up to be a housewife, always regretting it (not that it's bad, but in the kinda way that it feels a bit heartbreaking)
If anything, I can see them giving each other pieces of their instruments equally. Something that wouldn't render it useless but would be like a forged bond.
Because at least then it's both, and not just jabber. Because, even ignoring the ooc remarks, I always find it strange it's only him...
Like "bad evil guy gives up most prizes possession to good savior lover to prove dedication, being loved and trusted in return!" but idk I might be biased I always hate those tropes. Why can't they also love them when they're a bit evil?
Zanka meeting Jabber when still in the hell guard and acting fake polite and all just for Jabber to immediately call him out on his bs and Zanka's trying so hard to keep it cool but he totally bites the hell of his pillow in irritation when he comes back home. Maybe Jabber already had mankira by that point so he kinda activates her for a fight(that Zanka instigated btw) and it's Zanka's first real contact with a giver and he's so charmed with his jinki. And of course Zank looses the fight but his interest in vital instruments only grows from then.
Okay I hate t/b discourse as much as the next person BUT I feel like its REALLY relevant with janka because depending on how a person views that with them its nine times out of ten microaggressive as hell to BOTH jabber and zanka, sorry not sorry
(and most of the time THOSE people be either, a) racist, b) weird not in the fun way, or 3) a proshipper, or all three and im not even exaggerating)
