For the final post response I have re-blogged three different posts that caught my attention. I found this response to be an interesting one because you get to learn about how other people perceive there space and the feeling that it evokes. The first one I found is titled “Comfort” by jessicahumn220. The next one I stumbled across was by mackdoo and it was titled “Escape”. The final post I choose was “Enjoying Freedom” by jlopezuzetahumn220. Every one of these post has interesting aspects to it. I will talk about some of the similarities as well as differences that they contain.

Although all of these posts have different keywords as there title they are all very similar in what the space actually does for them or what it means to them. These places bring a sense of relaxation, freedom, and the one that stands out most to me is stress free. The first post titled “Comfort” takes place in her living room. The actual location isn’t important, it is the feeling that is felt while in that space. Whether it was a long day of school, work, studying or even a fun night with friends she can come back to her living room knowing she will have a comfortable stress free location to hangout. In the post by mackdoo titled “Escape” she is also located in a living room with couches and a tv. Unlike “Comfort” she mentions that she is in her space with some of her closest friends. It is a very social place where they can talk, laugh, watch tv or even just sit in silence. It’s not the environment or the surroundings that make these two spaces similar, it’s how the spaces are used and the feelings that they bring. They both have a sense of relief or comfort. I think that the majority of spaces people used for the semester were spaces similar to these where they are able to relax and not worry about things. The final post that I decided to re-blog also had the same general feeling as the others. In her post she mentions how soothing her space is. It gives her the sense of freedom that no one will tell her what to do. She talks about the scenery and how it represents a form of relaxation. The only real differences that stood out to me about the three posts were physical characteristics. The first two posts I talked about were both located under a roof and in a living room. The third post, “Enjoying Freedom”, took place on the Chico State campus in the rose garden. These locations make them so different but when you actually break down the purpose of these spaces they become very similar.

With that being said I would like to conclude my response. I believe that I was able to properly interrupt these posts and the message that was trying to be delivered by the author.

"Keyword" Post 6

The word that best describes my space would have to be peaceful. The reason I chose this word is because the space is peaceful when it’s sunny and when it’s raining, when its dark and when it’s light as well as when there are people and when there aren’t people. My point is it brings me peace no matter what the conditions are. My space relates back to the class through a couple of the texts that we read as well as a lecture. During the lecture about art and architecture we talked about lines, contrast, and repetition. All of these are present in my space whether it be the trees, the parking spaces, or the apartments. Our discussion about maps as well as “The Song of Roland” we talked about borders or boundaries. My space has a border that closes you in and leaves you with one exit. It is a tall fence that even has barbed wire at the top of certain parts. The fence funnels you to the exit that is on Nord. Overall I think all the spatial concepts that occur in my space have been covered throughout the class. I am very pleased with the space I chose for the semester.

For this Tumblr response I choose to re-blog two posts that caught my eye. The first one is titled “The Coziness In My Bubble” by gomezhumn220. Her series of pictures appear to take place inside of her dorm room. The second post I am going to use for my response is titled “In One’s Element” by mnedvedhumn220. This series of photos takes place in her backyard. This observation post was an interesting one because the pictures give the viewer the ability to take their own message away from it instead of being told what it means by the person who posted it.

To start of I am going to talk about one way that these two posts relate. Notice both of the titles have to do with being in ones place of comfort or a place where they like they can let their guard down. These two spaces are very different but they both offer a sense of relief. They both have boundaries but the boundaries differ greatly from each other. In the post “The Coziness In My Bubble” the boundaries are the walls and ceiling that make the room so tiny. In the other post the space is very open and free. The boundaries are the fence that enclose the entire backyard. I am now going to start talking about what makes these posts different from each other. One major difference is that one takes place indoors and the other takes place outdoors. The series of photos from the post, “In One’s Element”, is a space that is used more for recreational activities and relaxing on a beautiful day. It includes an overhang, a BBQ, and even a pool. This is a perfect spot to have a nice gathering on a summer afternoon. The post titled “The Coziness In My Bubble” is far from a space like the one we looked at in “In One’s Element”. This space is a living space, a relaxing space, as well as a working space. She uses it to sleep and get ready everyday as well as doing her homework or whatever tasks she does at her desk. This space is also used to just relax or unwind after a long day.  Something I find to be interesting about “The Coziness In My Bubble” is that the space is a multi-use space. Depending on the time of day or depending on how she is feeling it can be used for many different reasons.

Finishing up this Tumblr post I feel like I have given my interpretation of what these posts are trying to get across. These two posts differ in many ways but also have some similarities. The similarity I found to be the most important is how these spaces are both places where they can feel comfortable or in one’s element.

Wandering Through Space

This space post was fascinating because we were actually walked through everyone’s space as if we are on a tour. I chose three different posts to talk about and they are all located outside but are still unique in their own way. The first one is titled “Out in the Sticks” by scanada1humn220. The next one I decided to re-blog was untitled but posted by sunthumn220. The final post I’m going to touch on is titled “Roaming in Roses” by katiehumn220.

To start off I’m going to talk about the ways that the posts relate. As I already mentioned they all take place outside. Another major part of each one is all the flowers, trees, grass and overall vegetation that is involved in each video. In each one of the videos the sun is out and shinning to some extent. Something that I noticed that was in each post is a shadow of some sort. A major similarity between “Roaming in Roses” and the untitled one is that they are both located on the Chico state campus. They are actually relatively close to each other. Another similarity between these two posts is how they are both closed in as compared to “Out in the Sticks” which is very open and you can see what seems to be miles and miles of land. The final similarity I am going to point out between the untitled post and “Roaming in the Roses” is the activity that is going on around them. In both videos people are roaming around going about their daily life. In the short clip titled “Out in the Sticks” there is none within sight the entire time.

In this paragraph I am going to get more into the individual aspects of each post that caught my attention. One thing in the post “Roaming in Roses” that I was able to relate to back to our class was boundaries or borders. During the entire video she is walking through the rose garden which are basically walls guiding her in which direction to go. Something from “Out in the Sticks” that I can relate back to the class is space and imagined space or utopias. While looking over the pond you are able to see the reflection of all the trees as well as the sun. No matter how hard you tried you would never be able to touch those trees or the sun that is located on the surface of the water because it isn’t a physical image. As soon as you got to the location of the tree or sun and tried to touch it you would enter a completely new space underneath the water. Something I liked about the untitled post was all the noise that you could hear. Noise was coming from all over whether it was people, the wind, or birds.

This post was interesting because we were able to see everyone’s space from many different angles. You got to see all the different point of views as well as hear all the different sounds associated with the space. This was one of my favorite ones.

Roaming in Roses

This is my video of me walking through my chosen space, the George Petersen Rose Garden. Not much noise can be heard in the background throughout the video except the sound of my footsteps. At one point, a man can be seen and heard in the video talking on his cell phone about the Giants baseball team winning the World Series yesterday. Also, the faint sound of birds flying around and chirping in the background can be heard. The main focus of the video was to showcase the roses, and how many different colored and sized roses there are. The rose garden is a perfect place to go if you want to relax for a bit because, as you can tell from the video, at certain times during the day when not many people are out and about, the environment is very calming and can be a stress reliever. On a day like today, when the wind is blowing slightly, the smell of the roses can be detected anywhere you walk in the garden. Narrow rock pathways can be seen in the video too, which allow people to easily walk through the garden and see all of the roses and birds and bees that often frequent the roses.

As I walked through the campus as I usually do, I found myself outside of Kendall Hall. The gentle, sloping curves of the arches and domed roof were hit with the warm fall light hit the bricks in just the right way to make everything seem warmer even though the temperature would have you thinking otherwise. At this moment I noticed how everything had come together in the right moment and time; the cool breeze hitting the skin, while the warm bricks seemed oddly comforting and the hustle and bustle of the campus providing a familiar sound in the background and I was brought back to why I chose Chico. The campus Chico state resides on is one of the more beautiful that I have seen. While there are other flashier campuses, Chico’s is slightly understated while remaining distinct and bold. The alternating building styles from cold metal and glass to the warmer brick and stone gives the campus dynamic and the forest that surrounds us is simply breath taking in fall. It allows you to feel more connected to the campus and the community as a whole. Kendall Hall will always be a beautiful building that no other campus has, and it serves as a catalyst to bring student to come learn for years and years to come.

Out in the Sticks

When I started the video I was onto the deck where my original picture or post began. If you listen to the video all you can hear is me walking and the wind. When first starting the video in front of me is the pond. To the right is an airstrip that you can barely see because of the sun as well as because the pond is to big to really see it unless you walk over there. I chose to not go over there because with rice season going on I wasn’t sure if a plane would actually land. I went to the left and to the left of the pond is a ditch where you can see water is being let into the pond. I tried to get a shotgun shell in the video but you can’t see it. The shells are from workers who shoot skeets over the pond. As I continue to walk to the left of the pond there is more water further left. That is a rice field that has been harvested and now is flooded. If you look straight in from me behind a big tree are the Sutter Buttes. It is hard to see them in the video but they are there. I chose to name this Out in the Sticks because literally nothing is around me about agriculture and nature.

I chose to take a video of myself and some friends walking to my space rather than of my actual space. I did this to show what one might have to go through to get to my space. While walking to my space as you can see there are so many rocks you have to jump over and climb. All the jumping and climbing is hard work for some people like me but it is fun. While walking you can hear the water flowing by, I did show some parts where you can look over and see the actual creek; I did this to show that walking to my space is not all rocks and trees. It may not look as nice but once at the actual spot of my space it’s a beautiful view. The couple that passed by were actually really nice people. As I said before my space is a good place to hang out with friends or just relax, you can meet people and have a good time. Right after I stopped recording we met more people and we all just hung out swimming and having a fun time altogether.

Beautiful Blue Skies This is a short video of my space. It was very sunny with bright blue skies. There wasn't much sound besides that which came from the cars on Nord. I love how there are tress in every direction that I look. It was a perfect day for an observation post from my space.

Mapping Space Response

I feel as if this observation post was fascinating because it gives the big picture of what everyone’s place consists of with great detail. The observation posts I decided to re-blog were “Inside My Bedroom Walls”, “Mapping My Space From The Sky” and one without a title by romerohum220-2.  

The first post that caught my attention was “Inside My Bedroom Walls”. The reason that I liked this particular one is because it was hand drawn and not many of them were hand drawn. It was drawn with great detail. She even included her roommate’s belongings because it’s a shared space between them both. The walls create the boundaries of her space which I though was a nice addition. A small detail that I thought fascinating was the window looking outside. It shows that even though her space is indoors she is capable of looking out into the public.

The second post “Mapping My Space From The Sky” was a google earth snap shot of the space from the sky. This person’s exact space is on the track inside of the Rec but his snap shot is of the entire Rec. When I was looking at this post I noticed the boundaries instantly, the walls of the Rec that separate the inside from the outside. If you have been to the Rec then you know what this place looks like but if not then you are left to imagine what it looks like.

 My final re-blog was untitled but has a couple things in common with “Mapping My Space From The Sky”. The first and most obvious similarity is how they are both using google earth and the image or map is shot from the sky. The space in the untitled post is of the Chico stadium. Something that stands out in this post is the track that goes all the way around the field and it has a bright color that pops out. I feel like the track is the center of attention in this image but yet the entire stadium is the space. In “Mapping My Space From The Sky” the track is the persons space but yet we are unable to physically see it in the post. The same type of space, a track, can be either indoor or outdoor which is fascinating. The tracks are used for the same things but one major difference of the two is that the one located inside of the Rec is a lot more of a private space then the track located in the Chico stadium. In conclusion there were many different ways to approach this special observation post and I have shown three completely different ways that people decided to show their space.

Inside My Bedroom Walls:

The walls are the boundaries that enclose my private space from the hallway public space. I chose to draw a picture of my room because I could personalize it as much as I wanted to. The “up” of my room is towards the blue bed and the “down” part of the map is toward the door. I included not only my side of the room but also my roommate’s side because the picture felt incomplete without her side.
