karkat was never allowed to god tier because he would have been way too insanely powerful. this kid did not sleep for an entire 600 sgrub campaign. he got his teammates to work together so well that vriska points out maybe more of them would have god tiered if they had been at each other’s throats more, like they were raised to in troll society. but karkat held them together until the weight of their situation on the meteor overpowered that and several of them snapped all at once.

he was the only main character to never die or be seriously injured (with terezi being the only other troll to not die) until [S] Collide, and it’s all because even without god tiering he was such a fucking good knight of blood that despite being annoyed by him at times, the literal gods around him would (and did) go to bat for him and each other whenever needed. he wasn’t even that good at fighting but that didn’t matter, because the blood aspect is about relationships and the strengths that come from that, the literal embodiment of “friendship is what matters most in the end,” because when the team starts fighting (like in murderstuck or pre-collide) none of them are as strong as they could be anymore
