this little passage from Mr. Rogers' book You Are Special made me tear up a little I can't lie
therapy
Fransesca Woodman
Presence is productive.
When not caught up in the inner critic, there is much more time for doing. If you’re wondering what to spend time doing, just fall into presence with whatever it is you want to do in this moment. Don’t spend too much time waiting in indecision, picking apart each activity for its pros and cons; simply pick something and begin doing it.
Remind yourself often that everything you are doing is perfectly right, as it is the only thing that could ever happen, because it is happening now.
The inner critic will try to make judgements on what has happened or what could possibly happen. This voice is there for a good reason, but it is not a primary guide. It is much like bumper bowing, in which it serves as a boundary so that you don’t go into the gutter.
Your life should not be in submission to this voice. Your life is best lived in submission to your own presence and to this present moment.
