Can you pray for me? My parents don’t like Catholicism, I’m catholic and they are Protestant. They’ve said pretty rude things about my faith, and I just want them to accept me and my practices.
Of course! My family are also pretty rude about my faith, and something that helps me at least is just praying in my head "Lord, have mercy upon [name]" when they say something. In this way, you avoid the temptation to get into an argument/debate, and by immediately turning to prayer we can get some consolation which can soften the blow for anything hurtful that they have said.
Then in private, when you have the opportunity, a prayer such as:
Most merciful God, Thy will be done, which will have all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. Save and help Thy servant/s, (name/s) Take this desire of mine as a cry of love which Thou hast commanded
I think this prayer for yourself will also be good:
Illumine our hearts, O Master Who lovest mankind, with the pure light of Thy divine knowledge. Open the eyes of our mind to the understanding of Thy gospel teachings. Implant also in us the fear of Thy blessed commandments, that trampling down all carnal desires, we may enter upon a spiritual manner of living, both thinking and doing such things as are well-pleasing unto Thee. For Thou art the illumination of our souls and bodies, O Christ our God, and unto Thee we ascribe glory, together with Thy Father, Who is from everlasting, and Thine all-holy, good, and life-creating Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
The more we grow in love of Christ and what Christ calls us to do, the better example we can set to others. And the more we grow as an example to others, the more open they can often be to actually wanting to hear us out or feel that desire to want to connect with us to understand our beliefs. What we may fail to do through our words, we can succeed through growing in humility and love of God. And if you are ever in a position where you have to give a response, then first turn to God in prayer - even a quick 'Lord, have mercy' - can go a long way
