Going through my old sketches, I found a bunch of stuff I wanted to go back over, so.... For the first time in years, I (re) drew and actually completed some NSFW art. However, this place is so schizo about adult content I don't think I'd risk posting it here. Not that it'd fit in with most of what I have here anyways; but still.

i work at a second hand record/music/movie store and we see some very zany stuff come in, but there are my favorites
Ninety Pound Wuss out in the wild!? Holy shit now there's a crazy rewind. I still love groups like Argyle Park, Starflyer and Joy Electric; but I have massive mixed feelings on so many of these groups. On one hand, some were real underdogs given a shot at success they might never get without blatantly religiously motivated labels like Tooth & Nail. On the other, a lot just weren't quite ready for primetime. On the other other hand, they tended to have a more captive audience that had way less knowledge and exposure as music listeners ... and yet they'd happily tell you "listen to this band instead of these other naughty secular ones." That just always weirds me out.
Apparently that wicked devil rock music was fine as an influence for the artist(s) to absorb creatively and fine for the label to slot in 'kinda good enough' replacements for; but the kids shopping for this stuff at the religious book store wouldn't likely be allowed to own or hear themselves.
(yeah, T&N was at least less judgy and preachy on the outside and has *some* artistic cred in retrospect at least; but it's the same deal as the more blatantly sucky pastor-picked brand of CCM. Trying to "replace" what your kid listens to.)
Some mecha, vehicles, monsters... vaguely shmup related. IIRC these are mostly from college.
I've been going back through some of my old art. I'll be posting whatever whenever randomly. Most are from around '98 - '02 (basically covering when I was in homeschool and college) but I have some from way back too and a few later from when I was still on DeviantArt. ...and yes, that is the devil literally ripping my head off.

Why is book cover art from this era so GOOD?? This style, the colors....it just does something to me O_O
I've been listening to a lot of vintage Ozzy lately and was reminded of the unbelievably stupid controversy over Suicide Solution. Swaths of (mostly religious) idiots made careers out of mishearing and misunderstanding lyrics on purpose towards the end of banning and destroying great music. Anything to not hear someone else's voice or message... especially how your own fucking kids feel about anything.
Honestly I can tell you finding out art was made by AI really does immediately, legitimately sour it for me, like people will trot this out as a Gotcha for anti-AI people but it's just making it clear they don't consider art to be the conversation that it is lol. It's similar to the way Harry Potter immediately soured for me because engaging with it while knowing the kind of heart Rowling is writing from changes the way the work feels; there isn't any moralizing or whatever that I have to do, it's easy to drop it because it's rotted in my hands.
"Oh but you LIKED this song before, nothing changed!" The conversational partner did. A very large portion of what is interesting to me about art is thinking of why the creator chose that instrumentation, or what made them want to make the thing in the first place. Finding out I've been talking to a wall completely removes an entire third of the force that art is to me, and I can't argue that anything about art or its consumption is Objectively Correct but I can argue it's fucking boring lmao
100%
i love when you read/watch an influential piece of storytelling and you're like ohhhhhh ok i see. so everyone else was copying this guy's homework
In horror films this is like Mario Bava over and over and over
Kenji Sawada & Sonny Chiba, Samurai Reincarnation (1981)
Art by Tim Hildebrandt from Merlin and the Dragons of Atlantis (written by Rita Hildebrandt, 1983)
The Hildebrandts were so insanely talented, it's no surprise they were just as skilled in b&w and ink

Insanely hard SOB of a fighting game but the art and music are amazing. Back when Sunsoft were a real force to be reckoned with.

Behind the scenes of Flight of The Navigator, 1985
The soundtrack for this movie is permanently burned into my soul. I also spent one church retreat drawing the alien ship design on graph paper over and over. I was kinda obsessed. Yeah it's Disney; but I still absolutely love the spooky "X-Files Jr." atmosphere and characteristically 80's wonder and awe over outer space and the possibilities of space travel.

I love that this could be cover/poster art for any of like 50 vintage gothic horror movies in my collection.
