Obsessed with the fact that Ed puts his glasses back ON during homoerotic hallucination scene. He did that for what? To watch Oswald seductively sing to him in 4k? Gayass.
Viva Las Vengeance Opinions
Yeah nobody asked for it but it's coming anyway. As a Panic! STAN and all. And I'm also taking it as a personal attack since it's one day before my birthday. Feelin blessed.
The personal attack continues because Pretty Odd is my favourite P!ATD album. Probably still is if I'm honest. And Viva Las Vengeance is like if you mixed A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, Pretty Odd, aspects of Death of a Bachelor, and then gave it some kind of 60s and 80s rock vibes with strong Queen influence. It sounds like it should be a mess but somehow it really really works.
My overarching opinion is that this is an album Brendon Urie really wanted to make for the art of it. I doubt it's going to chart particularly well (ie High Hopes) but that's honestly okay. In fact I appreciate it. I feel like Panic! were always the band who just kind of happened to get popular (in fact Local God references this). And it really feels like an appreciation of those roots, without being a regression. I know a, uhm, take is that Panic! changed for the worse without Ryan Ross. I don't agree with that, though there was definitely a change. But this album feels like a kind of return to that style to me.
If A Fever You Can't Sweat Out is just the prologue, Viva Las Vengeance is the arc where we really see that fleshed out character development.
I know why the singles are the singles, but with the exception of Viva Las Vengeance they were the weakest songs on the album to me. Everything from God Killed Rock And Roll onwards was legitimately 10/10 for me.
Some highlights though:
Don't Let The Light Go Out - A solid banger. I won't be surprised if this ends up being most people's favourite. I adore that it (at least appears to?) samples Janis Ian's At Seventeen, which is a song I've loved for years.
God Killed Rock And Roll - He may as well have named this Las Vegas Rhapsody. Honestly, it's nothing like Bohemian Rhapsody actually, but it's clear it was a heavy influence. Considering I can't think of any other songs in that style, I have to commend them for actually pulling it off and in a distinctive Panic! way.
Say It Louder - Somehow this sounded like the most 'classic P!ATD song' to me, even though it's nothing like any songs I can think of. I think this will be another favourite for a lot of people.
Sugar Soaker - I think this is my favourite on the album, as a massive fan of classic rock. Definitely the one I've had the urge to listen to on repeat.
Sad Clown - Yeah I don't know. Panic really did opera. All I can say is I'm into it.
okay i'm gonna say it:
while the album might not live up to most people's expectations, you have to say that this album seems to focus on the story it's supposed to tell in a musical way. given that he himself performed on broadway, brendon has a way of doing just that and the music videos are his way of expressing himself, i'd say.
for me there've been some really good songs and i admire the different effects they used to make the album an experience in itself + the videos. i remember brendon saying he perhaps wanted to make a movie of some sorts and this is viva las vengeance.
I may have accidentally developed a minor crush on Nicole Row.
saw her live, she's AMAZING
oh my god i've only listened to 2 seconds of it but it's good, it's giving vices and virtues ohmg😳
THATS WHAT I THOUGHT TOO,, MY FAV ALBUM AAAAH
what could have been
Friendly reminder that Ed wanted to kill Oswald so badly but in the last season he can't find the right words to express his regret for not reacting to the granate and therefore causing Oswald pain
in conclusion: i can't be mad at edward anymore. he is such a damaged character and i feel so bad for him. he couldn't tell right from wrong anymore and didn't know what was good for him. he always kept himself from love - Kristen, Oswald - because his split personality made him abandon everything he liked and he knows deep inside that he isn't in charge anymore.
guys i just remembered the thing he did to oswald's father nvm

The moment Edward stayed in Gotham for Oswald, right after Oswald told him to follow his heart instead of his head, Nygmobblepot became canon.

THIS.
Also, if we’re taking the opening minutes of that first episode as kind of an operatic “overture” and not a 1:1 depiction of reality on the day of the big battle, we see Ed do this:
[Source: fuckyeahgothamfox] While Vera Lynn’s “We’ll Meet Again,” a romantic ballad from World War II, plays on the record player in the library.
Random Nygmobblepot family head canon: After returning Martín to Gotham post-reunification, the whole household accordingly quickly learns ASL. This turns out to be an invaluable skill in multiple ways, including when Ed and Oswald are in the middle of a caper and need to communicate silently to avoid being caught (and also when they want to snark to each other in public without other people knowing what they’re saying).
this was the headcanon I couldn't find soo credits to @connerluthorkent !!
wdym they're not endgame??? 🤨
we were robbed.
Edwards hand in the first GIF!!!! and the love riddle

y'all post your favorite nygmobblepot headcanons under this pls, i'll start:
both learn sign language and they have the wildest most expressive signed arguments when martins asleep or when they're in a situation they have to be quiet
I need to do another one because I have so many oml..
They started a relationship right before both of them were incarcerated for ten years. Sinfe they couldn‘t exactly see each other, they’d send sappy romantic letters back and forth that read like they’re war-torn lovers.
Edward has tried to teach Oswald how to play tabletop rpgs, but he no longer plays with him, not because Oswald didn't get it but because he is ridiculously lucky to the point where he somehow only rolls really high making Edward's life as a GM extremely frustrating. Oswald just one hit kills everything with his bs luck, Ed is certain that he is cheating, but he doesn't know how. A board has been set on fire at least once.
Both of these are so fitting - I imagine the letters like the one Oswald send Ed to talk to the Riddler omg

They shared the bed at 805 Grundy when Oswald was recovering and later, after Ed returned from Arkham but before he met Isabella, they still did on occasion. Like ten-year-olds at a sleepover.
YES!!!
oswald definitely uses cheesy ass pet names for ed like "my love", "darling", "sweetheart" etc. and ed will never admit it but he absolutely adores it
